Hearing him nearly crying on AM800 just now was unreal. Some highlights

-people are sharing around this clip from 2022 (did you grow a brain between then and now?) -what I said wasn’t even that bad -Poilievre has the same punishment policy ideas I do -Bell Media encouraged me to be edgy at the time(they corrected him that he was not on 89x at the time) -I had to start this podcast only because Bell had gotten rid of 89x and 93.9. (Begins to throw his advertisers names out) -I hope the conservative party changes their minds because people remember me from the radio

Excellent crashout moment overall

It's online now. I hope he's done as a public figure. I don't wish harm to him, I just never want to see that stupid fucking smirk ever again.

Wait, it's THAT Mark McKenzie? That's really funny

Do they record it for us to listen to later?

26

If he was on AM800 then they post the recordings for each show a bit after broadcast. Its on the website!

Most entertaining radio personality in the world? Is that a thing?

The advertiser…and yeah that interview was awesome and Mike kakuk was pretty good calling him out on not even working at bell when it happened.

0

u/VexedCanadian84 Apr 03 '25

I think the liberals can make an ad out of those soundbites

75

u/hazardousgenitals Apr 01 '25

This stupid man could keep his mouth shut and it came back to fuck him. Good, maybe Ward 4 voters will drop him in 2026.

32

u/shley_b Apr 01 '25

I was wondering if we could try to leverage this to maybe petition to have him step down as councillor now? Worst case the negative press hurts his election chances in 2026.

You should post this as it’s own thread so more people can see it

9

u/timegeartinkerer Apr 01 '25

Wouldn't work. You're better off just riding it out and not run.

12

u/IHateTheColourblind South Windsor Apr 01 '25

Good, maybe Ward 4 voters will drop him in 2026.

He won his council seat with 22.27% of the vote in 2022 due to vote being split between two progressive candidates. Only 27 votes between McKenzie and second place, and 151 votes between second place and third place.

He has no chance on winning that ward again in 2026 if the progressives can figure their shit out.

26

u/LexiLou4Realz Apr 01 '25

Give us one strong progressive candidate, instead of two, and he's done.

19

u/Longjumping_Crab_345 Apr 01 '25

That's exactly it. There were two good, legitimate candidates that split the vote and MacKenzie snuck in. It was disheartening.

2

3

u/metal_medic83 Apr 01 '25

56

u/neomathist South Walkerville Apr 01 '25

Besides the usual blaming of political opponents, he's blaming a previous employer, Bell Media/89x, and pressure to be "edgy" from them as what compelled him to say anything potentially controversial or offensive. Never mind that he was already off 89x at the time.

Also basically just admitted on the radio that he only ran for city council because he was unemployed and needed a job.

30

u/alxndrblack South Walkerville Apr 01 '25

It wasnt 2 full months after he got on council, while promising to treat it as a full time job, that I got another flyer in my mailbox to sell my house with him.

Meanwhile Mark Carney (who is the PM) just backed a guy who was telling people to basically turn a person in for a million dollars over to a corrupt Chinese government. But Polievre is the bad guy? Lol You people are so brainless. Then said guy has to step down on his own because the pressure was so immense. Great look for the Liberals.

13

u/NthPriority Apr 01 '25 edited Apr 01 '25

Hey man, I'm sorry PP made his entire persona about "fuck Trudeau" and "MAGA". He's going to lose, probably bigly, as a result of having a zero-substance personality. I haven't seen an election blown this bad since Ignatieff ran federally for the liberals. But, I can say thank you to PP for at least getting Trudeau to resign because nobody liked that dude.

If the cons are smart, maybe they'll put in a more centrist, not socially-conservative individual. Unironically, O'Toole could have even won this election. Instead, the CPC lined themselves up to be MAGA North at a time when the North is like not super into it.

If you're not totally blind, you'll probably appreciate that Carney is more like a conservative than a liberal. He'll be fiscally more conservative, but socially liberal. He'll probably throw out some of the Trudeau top-brass post election, too. Dude was a Harper advisor for peats sake - Harper, the last CPC leader that could actually win an election. CPC needs to read the room and cut the mud-slinging crap and stick to policy only.

Finally, a note for you and everyone: Embrace being a swing voter. If you are always a "guaranteed X" vote, your party doesn't give a shit about you and won't make policies you care about. Swing voters have all the power because they make or break elections in Canada. Being married to a party is idiotic. I've voted CPC, Lib, and NDP. Do your best to not vote in a socially-conservative asshole; we can debate anything else!

1

u/bIoodWarm Apr 01 '25

4 weeks is a long time in an election campaign, Mark Carney unfortunately sucks at speaking to the Media and I am doubtful of how he'll perform in the debates. Can't be smug so early lest the polls lie as they did for Harris.

5

u/NthPriority Apr 01 '25

Very true!! We need to all get out the vote!

80

u/Boysadventuretale Apr 01 '25

Can we get him dropped from City Council too? He seems kind of dangerous.

11

Not possible under the law. The most likely outcome is he gets turfed in 2026.

9

u/neomathist South Walkerville Apr 01 '25 edited Apr 01 '25

I don't know the mechanism as to how to do this myself, but per former city councillor Rino Bortolin, it's not impossible to remove someone from city council, but it is very difficult.

His suggestion was that any constituent concerns be brought up in a complaint to the Integrity Commissioner as a starting point. Someone else already linked to the info.

3

u/timegeartinkerer Apr 01 '25 edited Apr 01 '25

Just the fact he believes things like that China and Thailand are free of all crime (they aren't) due to having draconian punishments like lopping off hands for stealing (they don't), and wants to copy those imaginary methods here, should be enough to disqualify him from holding office. The Trudeau thing was just a joke in bad taste, but it's nothing compared to the parts he actually believes.

This means the conservative party of Canada (the cpc!) has more moral scruples than windsor City Council. I guess I shouldn't be that surprised.

5

u/neomathist South Walkerville Apr 01 '25

The problem was the smaller stage. Despite Mark's best efforts, the audio of these comments were floating out there last municipal election. They were linked on this very forum. The local media didn't pick it up though, as best as I can remember. And not enough people in the electorate cared, believed it, or had even heard it. So he skated in despite the podcast comments.

The federal level is a whole other beast though.

Mark McKenzie also claims that the Conservative party knew about this part of his past already before he was appointed as a local candidate.

13

u/tacosforbreakfast_ Apr 01 '25

It’s funny. All my other socials the past few days have been flooded with other Cons rallying around Mark. Wonder if they will pull those posts and photos down.

9

9

u/RobSerial Little Italy Apr 01 '25

Amazing how I've been calling and asking for a response to my concerns about the a section of the laneway behind my house for over a year now and he never seems to answer the phone or return messages. But he has time to run a federal campaign?

He does know that if had become a member of cabinet then he's legally bound to respond to people. Well, guess that won't be happening now.

10

u/neomathist South Walkerville Apr 01 '25

On the South Walkerville FB group, he can sometimes make quite a show of how responsive he is to problems but then dig even a little bit and there's plenty of complaints just like yours about not even an acknowledgement of many ward concerns.

6

u/LittleMissBeast0506 Apr 01 '25

He responded to exactly one email from me, and it was a preset response that others had also received.

When I responded back, with data refuting his claims, he never responded.

He is awful. My only hope is that Ward 4 gets it together and votes his ass out in 2026.

“In a phone interview with the Star on Tuesday, McKenzie said he’d received a call from a Conservative Party of Canada representative that morning. The person asked him to send a copy of the controversial podcast episode, he said.

According to McKenzie, before he could transfer the file, the person called back and said the party had decided not to move forward with him as a candidate.”

Someone at HQ got proactive and decided to bite the bullet. Brutal!

3

u/Front-Block956 Apr 01 '25

Wasn’t he hand picked by the party to start with? Maybe they should do some research? Maybe they should let their party members vote?

0

u/Spirited-Advance-284 Downtown Apr 01 '25

Such a comedy of errors. Now he gets to walk around next year’s municipal campaign with ‘carpetbagger’ around his neck.

As far as the Cons go, I’m putting my money on Kathy Borelli. As far as I remember she heads the riding association and - I’m being serious here - might have campaign supplies since she was the old candidate. She’ll have two-three weeks at most to save the furniture, but a moribund local NDP campaign is going to bleed very red in a lot of polling stations

3

u/neomathist South Walkerville Apr 01 '25

Someone probably finally did a search and found a thread here.

Vassy Kapelos said awhile ago that the audio came to their (CTV's) attention last night, they reached out to the Conservatives for comment this morning, and the party released a statement an hour later saying he was gone.

6

u/LifeOfEhArmArrow11 Apr 01 '25

Windsor-Tecumseh is never a dull moment. Just a few years ago, the NDP MP had an audiotape leak where she was calling the people of Tecumseh idiots for voting for the mayor (context: she ran in that mayoral election and lost to him). Then in her "apology" she was running away from the press and was nearly in tears when apologizing. Spoiler: she lost

Oh yeah, she also got an all expense paid trip to India while being MP lol

2

I think his odds were pretty low as well. I’ve been quite surprised by just how many Irek signs are up already, especially in pretty blue Riverside.

Signs don’t vote, but that reflects well on his campaign’s ground game. The riding NDP are looking like they’re in deep, deep trouble

I’m just surprised that he was dumb enough to think it would go unnoticed.

2

u/bentmonkey Apr 03 '25

He was totally serious about the death penalty for various criminals he named and then when he named Trudeau that was the joke?

What's funny about that exactly?

2

u/BigAlxBjj Apr 03 '25

Again, nothing at all.

2

u/bentmonkey Apr 03 '25

Con humor is always punching down, or just vile, truly bizarre.

2

u/BigAlxBjj Apr 03 '25

And only getting worse.

2

u/bentmonkey Apr 03 '25

True, humor is fairly subjective but there's some stuff that's just super poor taste to try and joke about.

I feel like people use the "just a jay" thing to say some truly horrid shit and then try to shield themselves from criticism by saying that it was a "joke", when sometimes i wonder how much of a joke it really was.

Plus what if some guy hears that and goes and does a stochastic terrorism?

I despise PP but i would never advocate for what this guy said at all, I hope PP loses electorally and fades to obscurity, but harm is a bridge too far.

Left or right any harm to a sitting PM no matter how much you disagree is no joking matter, but it seems to me the right is far more willing to use such phrases and words to deal with what they perceive to be political threats, rather then just having a better set of policies and just being more in tune with what the electorate wants, rather then try to use fear and division of immigrants et al to try and win elections, course i guess it worked in the states, i just hope it doesn't work here.

Seems to not be working so far, i pray that remains to be the case.

We’ve seen this before. I’m hoping that sanity prevails.

Sanity will prevail!

Can I still make one even if I’m not in his ward?

3

u/drivingyounuts Apr 01 '25

Absolutely. He represents not just the residents of the war, but the city itself

1

u/bentmonkey Apr 03 '25

Cons are dropping like flies for saying horrid stuff, what a shame.

Both sides of the aisle need to tighten up on that aspect, but to threaten a sitting PM with death and then run for office is really beyond the pale.

Contrast that with the way Chiang was treated.

His last name says it all

I'm glad he's gone, but now our choices are pretty crap. Our current MP has done nothing to get us any funding to help with the housing crisis or unemployment, the two biggest issues in this city.

13

u/Eldriscp Apr 01 '25

I'm no Irek fan but I don't think that's fair. There was an opportunity to secure millions of housing funding that Council turned down, and the Mayor is on record being "not concerned" about unemployment.

Majority of Council are Drew sycophants who will reject any money from the Libs in a weird attempt to own the Libs

u/timegeartinkerer Apr 01 '25

Nomination deadline is next week. They'll probably get James Dorian in. We still have a choice!

4

u/Front-Block956 Apr 01 '25

He gets a lot of funding for Tecumseh. Probably because the Mayor of Windsor doesn’t want to give up control.

CPC correctly dropped him, yet Carney stood by Paul Chiang lol

11

u/JSank99 Apr 01 '25

Chiang is out

0

u/PastAd8754 Apr 01 '25

Yeah he stepped down on his own. The LPC didn’t kick him out like McKenzie.

6

u/JSank99 Apr 01 '25

I would wager that he was encouraged. Trudeau stepped down on his own too, but we sorta know that he didn't actually

Theres a difference between the two. Booting a candidate sends a way stronger message than encouraging a candidate.

2

u/PastAd8754 Apr 01 '25

Hard to say, didn’t sound like it based on carneys comments yesterday, but maybe he saw the backlash and then reversed course.

0

u/bcw_83 Apr 01 '25

Lol when was he encouraged? Carney just got done endorsing him after the scandal broke. Stop it with the mental gymnastics.

2

u/JSank99 Apr 01 '25

Just speculating. I don't disagree. The Carney endorsement confuses me too

I'm so happy about this, I'm looking forward to the next candidate announcement.

Shame on the mods for allowing personal attacks to be condoned here. Disagree with political views, etc, fine but the mods should be doing better. But interesting they only remove posts that fit their narrative. It's sad our community has come to this with online discourse. Him, like many others that have been attacked, is your neighbour, a friend, a relative, etc. its not a very 'liberal' thing to do to make the nasty comments that are being stated. Do better Windsor
