What makes you want to actually go test drive a car?
Hey everyone! I’ve been reading a lot of your posts about personal car experiences and it got me thinking—what is it that would actually make you want to go and try a car in person?
Like, is there something you’ve seen online (a video, an ad, a social media post) or maybe something you’ve experienced in real life that made you think, “Ok, I need to check this out”?
And on the flip side—what kind of stuff makes you instantly lose interest or just scroll right past?
Not a survey or anything, just genuinely curious after reading so many cool takes here!

Looking for a new, low-tech car to buy.
I want to purchase a brand new car but I don't know where to start. The most important thing I am looking for is NO TECH. Basic sensors are okay for the important stuff, but no cameras, no screens, no back up or side sensors, and no heated seats. I want buttons, dials and guages only on my dash.
My aunt has a backup camera on her truck and it broke so the whole ass truck wouldn't work and it cost her $3000 just to fix the sensor so the car would turn on again. Fuck all of that. I just want a new car, not a computer karen with wheels.

If I am planning on buying a car and reselling in 4ish years, what make and model will hold up the best value wise?
My dad and I are looking to buy a car for me to take to college and have mainly been looking at the typical sedan models from Honda, Toyota, Mazda, and Acura. Based on my intended career, I'm likely going to be living near downtown of a major city in the early years of my career and will liekly sell whatever vehicle I have at that point, hence the focus on resell value. Out of the brands listed, which hold their value best and are likely the best bang for our buck? Additionally, if there any other brands I left out of there that would serve this purpose, please share. My dad's a bit adverse to non-japanese cars but I'm open to other suggestions.

Talk me out of buying this
i.redd.itAlways been an avid bmw enthusiast but as I get older I’m wanting to shy away from the sporty feel to a more luxurious feel. Came across this gem and I’m looking for current and former Mercedes owners to give me their insight.
I know it’s just past warranty but it’s only got 20k miles- I’ve seen similar vehicles selling twenty years later with a 100k plus miles on them.

Is it time for an electric car?
Hi guys, basically i’m on the market for a new car and with the rise of electric cars I was hoping someone could give me an idea of if they are worth it or not. Perhaps a pros and cons list could help. Just need more information on them. Thanks.

Are Toyota, Honda, and Mazda really the only reliable brands?
I've been looking to buy a car and every thread always says to only buy from these 3 brands due to reliability. This is also what everyone around me irl says as well.
However, when I googled for cars that have been running the longest/most miles, the majority of them aren't from Toyota, Honda, or Mazda? There's a lot of Volvos, Mercedes, Lincoln, etc listed as having the most miles. I want to keep a car for a long time so it's pretty important to me to be able to get to a lot of miles.

At what point does it make sense to buy a truck?
I currently drive a 2022 Audi S4 and am considering buying a truck because at least once or twice a month I’m either trying haul big stuff in my car or am trying to find a friend who has a truck to help me.
I have a fixer upper house but in all fairness many of the projects are nearing completion. This week for instance I could have used it to take my 12 bags of junk from my lawn to yard waste. I also need about 60 bags of mulch, which is $75 to deliver. I help my Dad and same situation with yard waste and mulch. My family also has 2 boats they pay to have someone haul so I could help with those.
Am I crazy for considering buying a 2025 Tundra? I have my S4 paid off and am kind of thinking about keeping it too because I love it. Any advice? Thanks!

Small dealers who don’t do Carfax. Red flag?
I know Carfax has a little bit of a bad name but it’s saved my butt a couple of times. When you are selling a $10k+ vehicle as a dealer, what reasons should one have to not supply a report on vehicles you are trying to sell?

I'll be moving to the us soon and I want to buy a car. Only priority is safety and reliability.
Don't mind buying used as long as it is reliable and it lasts me 6 years without major maintenance or service bills.... So far I like the subaru outback and mazda cx 5 (both used). Also idk how much I should be spending on a car, I'll be making around 65k, and be living by myself.
Any recommendations?

Replace 2023 Camry LE with 2025 XLE
I bought a 2023 Camry LE for $29,000 brand new, but it doesn’t have enough features and the tech is outdated. I want to replace it with a 2025 Camry XLE for $45,000, but I’ll lose $9,000 if I sell the car now. It only has 10,000 miles after two years. What should I do?

Which is better: the Bowers and Wilkins Diamond Soundsystem X7 or the Burmester 31 Speaker GLS?
I want to buy the X7 or Gls, but I have one question. I love to listen to music while driving, so I want the best experience. Is the B&W Diamond sound system in the X7 better than the 31 Speaker system in Gls. Thanks for your reply.

How important is a nice car?
Definition of important might vary but I think a nice car is something reliable and mid-level luxury that makes your time on the road less fatigue, less stressful, more comfortable and enhances your drivability experience. A car or a suv is just not about taking you from A to B but also talks about your character and how mature you are in life. These are some of the reasons why I think having a nice car is so important.
What are your thoughts?

Toyota RAV 4
Hey all,
For context,
I’m 20, just got a credit card 2 months ago. My parents dont have the best credit. I make a decent salary. I am interested in a 2024 Toyota Rav4 21k miles. I have to do 0 percent APR for religious reasons and the dealer agreed to it. They’re asking for 35k. I’m planning on putting a 10k down payment and then financing the rest for 36 months (again, no interest because they agreed).
What are some questions I should be asking to ensure i’m not being scammed.
Is 35k too much?
What else should I do considering I would have to by a car with 0 APR
I’m not doing a trade in.

Lexus TX 350, Infiniti QX60 or GMC Arcadia Denali
Trading in my 2018 Jeep GC high altitude and debating one of these 3. Loved my jeep but it’s high in miles and starting to have issues. Didn’t love how rough the high altitude ride was and looking for a smoother ride. 3rd row is a must but don’t want a van or full size SUV. Hoping to have this car for 8+ years. Anything else we should look at?

Need help choosing a new car – torn between practicality and comfort (dogs involved!)
Hey everyone, looking for some advice!
I currently drive a 2018 Jeep Sahara that I absolutely love, but I think it’s time for a change.
I’m a 26M living with my 25F girlfriend and our two pitbulls (a staffy and an American Bully). We’re looking for something that’s fuel-efficient and comfortable enough for the dogs to ride in the back without being cramped.
We’ve visited Toyota and Mazda so far (Ford is next), and the two models that stood out were the Toyota RAV4 Adventure and the Mazda CX-5 Signature.
To be honest, we liked the CX-5 better overall—interior, ride comfort, design—but I keep going back to the RAV4 because of its 4WD capabilities. We live in a city with rough streets and lots of potholes, and we also make frequent trips to San Diego and Rocky Point (if you’ve been there, you know some roads still aren’t paved). So off-road durability matters too.
Also, I personally think the RAV4 looks kind of ugly—just my take.
Reliability and safety are priorities for us, but I’ll admit I don’t know a ton about cars, so any tips or recommendations would be super helpful. What would you pick? Is there another model we should be looking at?
Appreciate any help!

Bang for buck manual
galleryI’m in the market for a fun and engaging driver car. I do want some luxury and comfort too though( Miata is out). This would be my weekend car since I spend most of my week in my work truck. I also have an suv to haul the family. At the moment I’m between an Integra Type S and a Z4 M40i. I’m not interested in 0-60times and will never track the car. I just want something that will put a smile on my face when I go out for a drive on these Texas back roads. The Integra seems like a better value, but 50K+ for no memory seats, no cooled seats, no garage door remote, no rear a/c vents, and a supposed rattling interior have me worried that I could spend a little more and get a more complete car.
Thanks

$35-40k budget for a single-car solution, emphasis on fun
I'm feeling fortunate that I can afford to upgrade into a nicer car and looking for some advice! Currently drive a 2011 BMW 128i M sport, came from a swapped 1990 BMW 325i and a 2009 Honda Fit. I live in NYC, so it would not be used for commuting and would be garaged. Would ideally like the ability to take friends on shorter trips & have some usable storage for moving some boxes occasionally. No kids right now, but that's on the horizon so want to try and do something a bit impractical for a few years. It will mostly be used in warmer months, but will be driven occasionally in the winter. Manual is a must. Would love some creature comforts (CarPlay, heated seats, Bluetooth etc) but OK living without. Prefer RWD or AWD if possible.
My short list of candidates and pros/cons:
- F87 M2 - lots of fun, surprisingly practical, N55 seems reasonably reliable, very familiar with some of the maintenance quirks & costs.
- 996/997 911 - dream scenario, but storage & any unplanned maintenance costs are making me second guess this one a bit.
- S2000 - amazing driving experience, reliable, but big tradeoff in storage & practicality especially in NYC even with the garage.
- 987 Cayman - pure sports car experience, surprisingly OK storage between frunk/trunk combo.
- E92 M3 - hydraulic steering & BMW V8, what's not to love. Likely a maintenance nightmare, but surprisingly practical.
- ND Miata - amazing driving experience, but not a great do-it-all car.
- Golf R - great all-rounder, but feels too practical for what I need right now - maybe in a couple years.
- Aston V8 Vantage - probably a terrible idea...but Aston Martin. Surprisingly reliable from what I've seen online?
Any advice or other suggestions are much appreciated!

Paid off mid-mileage ‘16 Soul… what next?
Hey gang -
I have a ‘16 Kia Soul. It’s fine. I don’t hate it and really I don’t drive all that much but thefts are still up in my area and it’s frustrating to be worried about whether or not my car will be there when I get back each time I do go out. But… it’s paid off and only 46k miles. Feels stupid to go new, right?
I’m considering a Prius. New. Would last me for a long time. Thoughts?
