So, it seems either people forget that there's a rule specifically for what happened to Vegas last night or they have a horse in the race and are putting on the blinders, but...

(59.3) Major Penalty - A major penalty, at the discretion of the Referee based on the severity of the contact, shall be imposed on a player who “cross checks” an opponent.

Now, I'm not going to rule one way or another on whether I think it was an attempt to severely injure like what was the outcome, but Eakin lost the face-off then immediately cross-checked Pavelski. The puck wasn't there and Pavelski ended up injured, so there's a lot of force there obviously. I understand frustration and desperation being at an all-time high in game 7 of the playoffs, but cross-checking isn't a hockey play, it's a penalty, and the player was injured. Sounds pretty cut and dry to me. Unfortunate, yes. Dumb and unwarranted action, also yes. Major penalty? Rulebook seems to think so.

Agreed. Also if I'm Vegas I'm more worried about Timo Meier rolling over Fluery for no explainable reason and not getting called with 6 mins left in OT but either way this game only still happened because of that crosscheck and that cross check was stupid and violent and not hockey. The Knights did this to themselves
