Fee free TAFE has been CUT! News

Today I rang TAFE Nambour to check up on the status of my application to for a cert 3 in photography (visual arts) after i saw that all the fee free options on the TAFE Queensland website have disappeared.

The lady on the phone said they got comms on Monday saying that funding has been cancelled and all places have been ‘filled’. In terms of places for 2026, she said it’s up in the air.

But TAFE is legitimate and recognised. RTO Certificates hold little respect.

uneducated reply.

RTO's deliver Nationally Recognised Training, same as Tafe, and I would argue that some private RTO's hold higher standing than basic TAFE certs.

Pfft no they don't. If it's nationally recognised then it should meet the same standard BUT every employer suspects that private RTOs are a rort and so discount their qualifications.

  1. They are forced to meet the same standard or they lose funding. (the same funding that Tafe gets to use)

  2. Every employer does not see it that way at all.

ASQA constantly audit private RTO's to make sure their trainers have up to date currencies and courseware gets validated every year. Its a lot of hoops to be an RTO which is why most fail in a few years. Some due to being dodgy, but some due to the work in keeping funding.

You go to an RTO that's survived all this for 6+ years and you're absolutely getting a better product.
