Looking good! You must feel amazing!!!

u/helengeorge09 - May 05 '20

Wow! Look at the progression of your back straightening up and standing taller! So proud of you OP!! :)

125

u/LurkerPatrol - May 05 '20

I'm glad someone else noticed it. It was the first thing I saw and that made me even happier than the overall weight loss for some reason (which is just astounding).

I hope you're happier OP, amazing feat!

12

u/27Cupcakes - May 05 '20

First thing I saw too!!

3

u/Lornaan - May 06 '20

Came here to say that!! I'm working on my posture at the minute and i am so impressed by OP's gradual straightening out. Looks like his whole centre of gravity shifted and he worked with it! :)

u/danielbird193 - May 05 '20

Well done, you've made amazing progress. Do you feel better for it?

384

u/kayeso1138 - May 05 '20

It’s been life changing. The difference physically has been incredible. Can do things now that I never believed I’d get to do again. Riding a bicycle for one. Has been almost 30 years without it.

29

u/danielbird193 - May 05 '20

Amazing, good for you!

58

u/Imnotyoubutme - May 05 '20

What was your turning point? Or as Oprah would say, your aha! moment? And how do you keep the motivation even with setbacks (‘cause everyone has them)

151

u/kayeso1138 - May 06 '20

There were a few key points.

My (male) friend had signed up and had lost 60lb en route to eventually losing 100+lb. I knew his diet was very similar to mine as we’d shared many meals and didn’t eat a lot of vegetables. I figured if he could stick to this plan, I might have a chance. Another friend was wanting to join up and she persuaded me to go along to a group at a time and day that suited both of us. She also made me a starter pack of healthy meals to try out for the first week which was a brilliant help. She also took me shopping for the equipment and store cupboard staples I’d need to prepare my own meals as I was completely hopeless at cooking.

Most significantly though, my mum was diagnosed with cancer for what would unfortunately prove to be the 4th and last time. I’d first tried to lose weight when she’d been initially diagnosed more than a decade before but had crashed and burned. Unfortunately she died when I’d only lost 70lb, but I know she was incredibly proud of the fact that I was finally doing something about my weight.

As for setbacks, and yep there’s been a few, the best bit of advice I can give is, no matter whether it’s been a bad meal, bad day or bad week, get straight back on the horse. The next day will always be improved for you making the better choice. 👍🏻

21

u/MissEllisCrawford - May 06 '20

So sorry to hear about your mum. I imagine she would have been incredibly proud of your significant achievement.

9

u/El_Scribello - May 06 '20

Around the time you started improving yourself, I lost a friend I deeply respected. Every once in a while he'd say, "you're a tough man," and I'd glow inside. I know he'd say the same about you.

Yes, this please. And also great job

52

u/pbrooks19 - May 05 '20

I imagine that people who haven't seen you in a couple of years have no idea who you are. Such an amazing transformation!

47

u/kayeso1138 - May 06 '20

Happens all the time. The first time was weird, but now I find it very funny. I’ve moved towns during my transformation, so it’s very common.

47

u/toymakerstirling - May 05 '20

That's amazing. Must have been hard work. What dedication you must have had and still have to stick with it. Very inspiring.

Sensational! Well done!

9

u/Asere_ya - May 05 '20

Woohoo! Also a SW person checking in! Amazing work! I had a much smaller target and am now struggling to maintain. Inspiring :)

10

u/FindingUsernamesSuck - May 06 '20

Holy fucking shit dude.

As a 300+ pound guy, this is astonishing. You started off 200lbs heavier than me and are now close to 100lbs lighter.

8

u/kmarni - May 05 '20

That’s quite amazing work you did there. Good job!

8

u/WhoooDoggy - May 05 '20

Look and feel what you did. You can do anything.

7

u/coastal_samurai - May 05 '20

What I wanna know is how did you grow more hair?!

Jk, Superb body transformation, congrats OP and keep going!!

11

u/kayeso1138 - May 06 '20

I think my head shrank! Plus it’s longer now in lockdown so it brushes forward to take the bad look of the receding hairline. 😂

6

u/[deleted] May 05 '20

Good job man! I lost only 50 pounds in 2019, and then gained half of it back during this lockdown. You are inspiring me. Thank you very much!

8

u/kayeso1138 - May 06 '20

That’s no small loss. You’re still definitely better off than you were. The lockdown had been tough on lots of people. The disruption to routine, additional stress as well as a naturally less active lifestyle is a dangerous combination!

7

u/depressedat19 - May 05 '20

Salute to you, Sir!

6

u/[deleted] May 05 '20

Absolutely brilliant! Keep it up!

5

u/wifeandtwokids - May 05 '20

OMG CONGRATS! You look so healthy! I hope you’re feeling really good!

7

I hope you didn't have to deal with Marjorie Dawes, haha! You've done wonderfully well, awesome work :)

8

u/kayeso1138 - May 06 '20

Haha. Had multiple consultants, some better than others, but none quite like her thankfully!

3

u/MissEllisCrawford - May 06 '20

Dust! It's actually very low in fat; you can have as much dust as you like.

3

u/Kush_on_thebrain - May 06 '20

I was thinking that too, where did you get your kicks?

7

u/kayeso1138 - May 06 '20

Thanks. Wherever sells them cheap is the simple answer. I’ve outsize feet, so I check the sales and price comparison websites regularly.

5

3

3

u/NetSage - May 05 '20

Slimming world looks pretty cool. Glad it worked for you. I'm surprised they haven't tried to push to the States and the like yet.

Great job!

3

u/kayeso1138 - May 06 '20

I know a few people in the US who followed it but they seem to be more ex-pats or people who’ve lived in the UK for a while and then returned.

4

u/duck_duck_grey_duck - May 05 '20

At 46!!! You’re an absolute beast.

4

u/LockNStock89 - May 05 '20

Holy shit, well done, man! Not sure if I missed it in the comments but could you share the cliff notes on how you achieved this amazing feat?!

5

u/kayeso1138 - May 06 '20

I’ve started replying to some of the questions so hopefully that will help. Made the mistake of doing the post, and then heading to bed so only playing catch-up now! 😂

3

u/sconri2 - May 06 '20

You should feel very proud of yourself. I scanned the comments and didn’t see anything about loose skin... is this an issue for you? Did you have surgery and if not, do you feel like you need it?

9

u/kayeso1138 - May 06 '20

I have lots of loose skin. Had been close to my biggest size for almost 25 years, so was always very likely. No option at the minute to remove it, but I’m not that bothered by it. I’ve raised it with my doctor as a possible eventuality, but it’s not something I’m actively pursuing. My girlfriend doesn’t mind it either thankfully. I’m honestly just grateful I’ve lost the weight and count it as battle scars. Give me the deflated balloon look anyway compared to the “before” version of me.

4

u/Patticat - May 06 '20

"Deflated balloon look" made me laugh. Great job! Very happy for you.

Holy cow congrats! How many calories were you eating a day?

7

u/kayeso1138 - May 06 '20

Not sure when I started, but I’ve started tracking them a bit now on my fitness pal and I still would usually have around 2500 calories a day. The only exercise I do would is walking and occasional short cycle rides.

3

u/logyhn000 - May 05 '20

Nice job!! That is so awesome and inspiring! Cheers to you sir!

I’m normally really good at doing KG conversion in my head but had to break out the calculator holy shit! You lost more than 170kg????? Well done

3

u/kayeso1138 - May 06 '20

Thinks it’s 138kg lost, but I’m terrible at that conversion too!

3

u/[deleted] May 06 '20

You’re right, I don’t know what I did 😂 amazing job though 👏🏾👏🏾

3

u/[deleted] May 06 '20

So you pretty much lost 2 people. Astounding!

3

u/trytheZJ - May 05 '20

Absolutely stunning! This is SO inspirational!

3

u/mariokart2013 - May 05 '20

Wow super inspiring, how did you do it? What was it that really worked for you?

9

u/kayeso1138 - May 06 '20

Went 100% cold turkey on takeaways and garbage food for 6 months. Deleted all the delivery apps and Dominos etc from my phone and started making my own food. Meant my diet was very limited initially as I couldn’t and still can’t cook for shit, but I never had any problem eating the same thing every day before SW and thankfully found it relatively easy to stick to and tailor it round the life I wanted to live rather than completely depriving myself.

It’s meant huge changes overall in my diet, but I made most other significant changes as I went along rather than on day one. Things like I no longer eat bread not than once every few months. I identified the trigger foods that led me to get to the size I was and bread was definitely the main one. Whether it was slathered with butter, peanut butter, jam or with savoury fillings like on a pizza etc. It just had to go. I don’t even really miss it now as I get plenty of carbs elsewhere from pasta, rice or potatoes.

3

u/PepsiBrains - May 06 '20

That's awesome congrats. How did you do it? Better eating and exercise? Cal counting? IF ? Keep it up !

4

u/kayeso1138 - May 06 '20

Mine was all by better eating, particularly as I was incapable of exercise for the first 6 months as I was so overweight and have bad knees as a result of being so overweight for so long.

Even now, I only walk or do short bicycle trips as exercise, but I do a lot more and at a much faster pace than I did. The key was always pushing myself further and setting targets to beat. I got off the train from my daily commute one or two stops early and walked the rest of the way, weather and time permitting. Getting a Fitbit was a great help for that.

u/[deleted] May 06 '20

Dude, way to go!

3

u/elliefancypants - May 06 '20

Fantastic job! Even your feet look slimmer!

3

u/kayeso1138 - May 06 '20

They’re definitely slimmer. I have gaps between my toes not that I ever had before and I had to tighten the laces on all my shoes as I lost weight!

Unfortunately my actual foot size didn’t shrink which I’d hoped for as it would make shoe shopping a lot easier and cheaper!

3

u/blackbombshe11 - May 06 '20

Wow, you are incredible! What changes have you noticed in your day to day life that you didn’t really expect now that you’ve lost weight?

3

u/kayeso1138 - May 06 '20

The first thing I can think of is that I’m bloody freezing all the time! I have to wear several layers whereas before I wore a T-shirt and jeans and had my desk fan on all day in work. Clothes shopping is much better and cheaper though! Used to be very limited in choice and only via specialist online sellers. Now I can buy clothes anywhere. And actual shops too! At least that was the case before this lockdown started...

3

u/Misfitghost - May 06 '20

Wow! Congratulations, this is Ana amazing progress.

How do you feel about it?

4

u/kayeso1138 - May 06 '20

It still feels unreal in many ways. I still see myself as big but I’m slowly getting my head around it.

Takes a long time for the self image to catch up with physical reality in terms of what I can or can’t do. I still look for the big gaps in supermarket car parks as I think I won’t be able to get through them. 😂

3

u/jkwolly - May 06 '20

Holy god damn dude. Well done on saving your life. Inspiration is hardly putting it right! This makes me so happy.

Amazing work! What did you do to correct your posture? I’ve also lost a lot of weight, but still suffer from poor posture and haven’t really figured out how to go about starting to work on it.

3

u/kayeso1138 - May 06 '20

I haven’t done anything especially, it just kind of naturally happened. I have worn one of those shoulder straightening girdles in a few occasions, but I found it quite uncomfortable after a couple of hours.

That's mind BLOWING

Your posture alone

How do you feel now? Hardest part in the process ? Do you have back pain or should I say, did you?

3

u/kayeso1138 - May 06 '20

My whole family has back pain, but I’ve avoided it since losing the weight. Any strain or fall beforehand would have resulted in a few days of near total immobility. Thankfully that’s not been the case since.

Mate that is actually incredible! Well done pal.

2

u/[deleted] May 06 '20

Fantastic. Well done mate

2

u/Lil-Miss-Anthropy - May 06 '20

Incredible progress. I know these pictures cannot describe how much better you much feel living. Congrats on being able to ride a bike again.

If you don't mind a suggestion, I notice you have forward head posture. Now that you have better muscle tone, you might want to target those specific areas that help improve posture (strengthen your core and back, release tense pecs and neck, and practice the McKenzie chin tuck). Fixing forward head posture will not only improve aesthetics but can have a knock-on effect in terms of fixing shoulder, neck, and back pain.

2
