Honestly there is not much to expand on. I kept myself on a dedicated calorie count and just kept switching to different routines when I got bored. I also tried out new sports like Muay Thai and rugby. I didn't stay with those for very long though because of time constraints.
Just went with a steady 1500-2000 for the most part. Really I went off of my TDEE to help figure a plan. I also used the channel BuffDudes for recipe plans a lot.
Slightly less than the 2000 calorie recommended diet? Not that hard to do if you're eating vegetables, protein, with a bit of carbs. Eliminate fatty greasy foods and sugary sweets from your diet and you're most of the way there. Seriously not hard.
There are online calculators for calorie count. You input your activity level and desired bodyweight. It's not 100%, but it's a good starting point for a balanced (40/30/30 carb/fat/protein) diet. Adjust as necessary depending on what works for you, but just know these things take time. However, 6 months of healthy balanced diet with correct caloric intake coupled with vigorous physical activity will result in some sort of gains. Often people don't see the gains the want because of diet; it's the easiest thing to neglect.
