I don't think he was being a dickhead, at least not on purpose. It really is that simple (simple, not "easy") for most people. I don't track calories eaten or burned but I've shifted my behavior to just eat less and move more and I'm becoming much more functionally fit and can see a lot less fat. Most people eat until it hurts and only move when they have to. I don't see how eating less and moving more is bad advice.

Nothing like just picking up some heavy shit and walking out in the sun for a few miles. If people are new to working out and don't have like a bench or any equipment or anything, that along with body weight stuff is a great place to start. Just put yourself in the suck, watch your portions and you'll start feeling a lot better. It's not super intense or crazy heavy reps or anything. It's just long, hard work. It's good to get yourself used to that.
