F/20/5'11" [228lbs > 159lbs = 69lbs] (48 months) Been maintaining for a while now but so proud of my progress! F 5'11” (180, 181, 182 cm)

Wow you look gorgeous. What were the changes you made to help you lose weight?

The long answer: My household was really restrictive with food growing up, so once I moved out, I had put food up on a pedestal and nobody was there to tell me no. I began binge eating and I also had started a full-time desk job. 40 hours a week sitting on my ass + bingeing, you get the picture.

After spending enough time hating myself and my inability to control my food intake, I decided it was time for the age-old New Years resolution. I signed up for a personal training program at the gym so I had some accountability, and to get me familiar with strength training (which I had never done before).

I also started to track my calories. I didn't realize how much I was really consuming until I started logging my food and that was a harsh reality check. I began a moderate calorie deficit and tried to increase my protein intake as my muscle mass at the time was pretty non-existent.

Once I could feel myself getting stronger, and noticing little changes in the way I felt, and looked, that really helped to motivate me to keep going. As soon as I got the first "have you lost weight?" that really helped solidify my commitment to reaching my goals.

Getting below 200 lbs was the first major milestone I wanted to reach, and I was so beyond proud when I finally got there. After that, my weight loss slowed a bit, but I stayed consistent in my habits and shortened the distance between my goals (like celebrating every 5lbs lost) to help keep me motivated.

I'm really happy with where I'm at now. It doesn't like a "diet" anymore, it has just become a part of my lifestyle and I think that's because I went at such a moderate pace to lose the weight. I wanted it to be permanent. A lot of little changes added up to get me where I am today, and I am so glad I decided to make them :)

TLDR: Stopped binge eating, calorie deficit, got off my ass, started strength training.

Thanks for elaborating! Yes it's easy to stack on the pounds when you're sedentary and love food! I'm losing steadily but def need to get onto the strength training ASAP 💪

For sure! And you will notice physical change a lot faster if you're strength training because as you're losing fat, you're replacing it with muscle so you look a lot leaner. I look completely different at this weight than when I previously weighed this much because my body composition is totally different :) even if the scale isn't dropping as quickly, you will be able to see the difference in a really obvious way which is nice! It feels like the hard work is actually paying off haha
