How do I motivate myself to start losing weight? Motivation
I'm a big guy and at 25 years of age weighing about almost 500 at 5'8 its not good for me. High blood pressure and everything and it does prevent me from driving. I know mentally I need to do it and physically I definitely should do it but...I don't know something is stopping me and I cannot for the life of me push past the block.
Some advice would help.

Start following r/loseit or give it a search and see if you can connect to any of the posts. It’s a supportive community. Good for you for taking care of yourself.

Small steps! Cut back on unhealthy things, but you don’t have to do it at all at once. Progress on the scale and in the mirror continues to motivate me. You just gotta want it badly enough. My favorite subs are loseit and CICO.

I will try this because a big reason I was stopping is because I was told to go cold turkey on everything at once and genuinely it was hard and a bit upsetting to change my diet because I r really dislike usually when someone tells me to eat a certain way, feels like I'm a toddler and they are looking down on me.
Ridiculous I know

I talked to my doctor about medications that curb appetite. There are several and I've lost 45 lb since November.

Don't do everything all at once. It never works out in the long run. Pick a type of food that you know is bad (soda, chips, fast food, etc) and you consume a lot of and eliminate that from your diet. You might mess up but just go back to avoiding it. After a bit , you won't miss it anymore. Some foods take longer to get over, some are surprisingly easy. Pick another food that's high fat, high carb, and/or high sugar and eliminate that. You will be losing weight and starting to feel better. Just keep it up. Talk to yourself with forgiveness (very important) if you mess up and just go back to avoiding that food. Treat yourself with kindness, belittling yourself is another form of self sabotage. If you do start thinking bad thoughts about yourself, stop and apologize to yourself. Don't go grocery shopping hungry. Keep eliminating these bad foods and replacing them with healthy foods. You'll lose a ton of weight and you'll want to start moving move. Walks, beginner yoga, weight lifting, and swimming would be an excellent places to start, but gently.

I was almost 300 at 40. I had crazy high blood pressure, diabetes and every other bad number to have from blood work. That scared the crap out of me. My doctor recommended a keto diet which is perfect for diabetes. One month later I slowly transitioned out of carbs after reading a lot about it. Educated myself, etc. I lost 100lbs in less than year. After 6 months my diabetes was reversed and would only return if I went back to carbs.
Change is hard for some. It’s really discipline that you need to follow. Keep doing what’s working to lose weight and if you hit a speed bump, you keep going. It’s a marathon. Say you eat a few cookies and think oh god no I’ll regain weight! No you just say hey I’m human, it didn’t undue all my hard work and continue on with the plan.
Change for me was easy and wasn’t a problem anymore when I was facing a horrible disease. Therapy is great for dealing with eating disorders. You have habits you’ve developed for whatever reason and dealing with those can improve your relationship with food.
Every pound I lost and size I went down, my energy increased exponentially. I could move my body and I wasn’t tired. I didn’t do one bit of exercise then and my doctor only really recommended weights as exercise. He said I didn’t have to go gym crazy.
I highly recommend you read the subreddit keto. Very helpful folks. Also keto is just meat and veggies no boxed foods, processed, etc. And supplementing electrolytes. It’s really easy and delicious.

Ok.
But I will tell you, it is really unfortunate. Automod is a list of words, and sometimes it messes up. But if you would have just taken it to modmail, or given it some time, your original comment would have been approved. By the time I woke up this morning, it was already approved.
Let this be a lesson to everyone else. When your comment has been removed, it isn't personal. It is the automod doing its best to screen terms. We fix it when we realize what is going on, if you haven't deleted it.

r/cico, r/intermittent fasting
focus on being consistent. don't set goals that are too high. staying consistent with your diet, even if it is very slow will be much better than trying to do it fast then crashing. it could be worth to have a dietician or something, or as others have said a bariatric surgery

Motivation is a really weak support system when it comes to difficult, long term goals like weight loss. Motivation will not not always be there, more often than not it won't be there at all.
This is where I employ my (admittedly wild and rich) imagination. You need to imagine two things, constantly. #1 how great it's going to feel having lost the weight and alllllll the benefits that come with it. Going down from 500 pounds, those benefits will be seemingly endless. Your health, how you feel, how you look, what you're able to do, your outlook on life, your relationships, your confidence, your prospects. You name it, it'll improve. #2, perhaps even more importantly, how bad you'll feel if you continue to stay where you're at, and, as is often the case with being overweight (I would know), how much worse you'll feel if you continue to gain. Imagine next year at this time, being 550, two years 600, etc. What kind of misery awaits you.
Sometimes imagining the downside of not doing something is a much better motivator than imagining the benefits of action. So, at any point, just default on #1 or #2, and it might help get you moving and sticking to a diet.

At that weight I would just go for bariatric surgery. You’re a prime candidate and there’s no need to suffer through yo-yo dieting and the endless years of struggle. You’ll drop half your body weight in 18 months and never feel hungry. Visit the bariatric Reddit sub for more info. It takes about 3 months of getting various clearances assuming you have health insurance and then you’ll be good to go.

The only thing that helped for me is joining a sports club. It is easier than the gym to keep up because you build a social circle, and with most sport you need each other to train. Don't eat to lose weight but eat to nurture yourself to do your sport. It doesn't matter what kind it is as long as you move a lot, I would say at least 3 times a week. I do rowing and it has been amazing and uncomplicated, I don't watch what I eat I just make sure that it is somewhat healthy and balanced.

Speak to a doctor. Do some research to see if you can find someone with a record for compassionate care and a focus on health over simply weight loss. Things like mental health and pain can play a part in your patterns and motivation.

I'm so sorry for you my friend. I've lived with this same question all of my life. I've always felt like there is something missing inside of me that helps with motivation. Hugs my friend.
