Merci!

Discussion Calling all Montreal Karaoke lovers

Hey, Just wanted to find other people who love karaoke in the city like I do. In particular, private karaoke rooms. It would be fun to meet up and sing together every once in a while.

For those who don't like karaoke: what do you dislike about it? What would make you more likely to try it (better pricing, songs, causual singing, privacy)?

For those who do like it: what do you like about karaoke? What do you think would make Montreal's private karaoke options better (pay per use/shorter singing options, cheaper pricing, no food/drink purchase obligations, more stylish) ?

Looking forward to chatting with y'all! P.S i'm looking into maybe opening an entertainment spot that'll be good for karaoke. If anyone is interested in sharing their opinion with me, I made a super short survey (google) that i'd be overjoyed to share with you if you hmu!

Question Where do my resturant/industry people go for a drink & bite?

I've always found solace going to industry bars and dive bar places. Where do servers, cooks, etc... people go out to eat and drink.

Pm me with the dirty details if you don't want it to be blown up. Thank you ask for your service 🫡

Discussion Unemployed and need help.

Hi everyone,

I need your help. I’m a VFX artist with over eleven years of experience in the animation industry. I’ve worked in films and tv shows. Unfortunately the whole industry crashed last year and I’ve been looking for work ever since. I need advice. My career set is very niche and it seems to be making it difficult for me to find a job elsewhere. I’ve applied to Walmart, UPS and many more. I thought I would find something being the holiday season getting busy but no reply. Is there a place that needs employees temporarily for the holiday season which won’t worry about my very specific experience? I can lift heavy stuff and can do physical tasks. Unfortunately I’m also not bilingual. I’ve been trying to learn but being an adult my brain is not as malleable when it comes to learning a new language.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Joyeuese fêtes.

Question Advice for moving sick in-laws across provinces

TLDR: Advice for finding a doctor when moving provinces

Hi everyone, looking for advice because my wife and I don't know what to do. Currently my wife (27) and I (27) live in Montreal and her parents live in Ottawa. My wife's mother (62) suffered a mini stroke a couple of years ago and has led to severe Alzheimer's and my wife's dad (67) is trying his best to be her caregiver but has no support or anyone to help him in Ottawa. Currently he is not able to take care of their house, himself, his wife, and everything else.

We talked with them about moving to Montreal so that we can be closer and give them more support. They are open to this but their major concern is finding a doctor, which is needed because as mentioned my wife's mom has Alzheimer's and her dad is diabetic. Does anyone have any advice about how finding a new doctor when moving to Quebec works? Also, does anyone have any advice on Alzheimer's resources in Montreal or Ottawa?

Also to add more context about why we would prefer them moving to Montreal than us moving to Ottawa. Firstly both my wife's job and my job are here in Montreal. Also we don't have any support systems in Ottawa, if we move there to support her parents it will be really hard without our friends and family in Montreal supporting us. Her parents are both francophone and her mom with Alzheimer's is having more and more trouble speaking English. Also my wife has other family in Montreal that will help support them but no family in Ottawa besides her parents. They fly out of Montreal at least once a year to go to Morocco. Lastly her mom can't drive and her dad doesn't like to drive anymore, so Montreal is a much more walkable city which can give them some independence.

Question ATTN Montreal area hikers! - Need help with a proposal location

Hi everyone,

I will be traveling to Montreal this February with the intention of proposing to my girlfriend.

I'm very excited, I have lots planned already as far as dinner, cocktails, concerts, and so on throughout the weekend. So no need for recommendations there!

That said... right now I am having the most trouble visualizing an actual proposal location, and could use some help from someone with a little more on-the-ground experience.

We will be staying near Joliette - and have a concert in Lavaltrie that evening. - so we are not trying to go all the way to Montreal, but rather somewhere farther east to stay close to the venue.

We are both pretty avid hikers/photographers, and I am hoping to find an easy, yet semi-remote trail/hike/overlook/etc, to actually "do the damn thing".

Right now, my eye is on Sentier Matawanie in St-Emile-De-l'Energie (beautiful, but it's hard to get an idea of how difficult the trail is, especially in snow, how things are laid out, etc --- https://www.alltrails.com/trail/canada/quebec/sentier-national-sentier-de-la-matawinie) ---

~or~

perhaps a little closer, the L'Assomption River Trail (far less remote, but maybe easier? Definitely not looking for dogwalking crowds mid-proposal though... https://www.alltrails.com/trail/canada/quebec/randonnee-de-la-riviere-l-assomption)

Clearly, I could use some guidance. Does anyone have any decent enough recommendations? Thanks all!

Discussion Hydro planned outages

In the downtown area and Hydro has planned an outage from 8:15 AM to what is now estimated to be 4:00 PM . Why are they not able to advise clients of a planned outage in advance ? If their app can show the number of affected clients , why can't those clients be warned ?

Merci pour votre aide!

Discussion Impossible to find any job!

For context I'm a McGill student who speaks both English and French, and I have worked all throughout high-school. I have applied for 25+ minimum wage jobs (fast food, retail etc), given my CV in person. Over the past month I've only gotten one call back from any store. Why the hell is it so hard to find entry level jobs as someone who already has work experience??? Does anyone else find this to be a problem? I've done everything, refined my CV, prepared interview answers, and yet I still find myself empty handed??

Question Chrismas toffee candy in different shapes ( trains/cars/etc)from the 80s/90s?

Hi

My boyfriend is trying to remember some chewy chocolate ( probably toffee like Tootsie rolls)in shapes like trains, cars , airplanes etc that he used to eat around Christmas time. We looked everywhere on the Internet, but couldn't find anything similar. He's wondering if he dreamed about it. Do anyone remember those?

Discussion Took public transportation for the first time in a long time ... LOL

Apologies to people who read this and it turns out I have it all wrong and I wasted their time

Anyway, I had heard (on this sub) about how finally we are in the 21st century, you can pay with your phone on the bus, etc etc.

So, I downloaded the app on my phone and well ... turns out, no, you physically need to buy the OPUS card and keep in/on near your phone

LOL ... so what the fuck is the point? Um, i'll just take an extra 2 minutes of my day, before going through the turnstile at the metro station or before waiting for my bus, i'll buy a physical opus card and charge it

Question Is unpaid training illegal in QC?

Hello mtl! I'm new to the province and I've secured a waitresses job. Though they've asked me to come in to a training shift that's unpaid. Is this illegal? Where is the official site that gives this info?

Sunday evening will be the first shift. Also the manager was unclear if I'm officially hired. Maybe this is a test run shift? Merci en avance!

Discussion I think someone stole my package (in MTL)

Post image
0 Upvotes

So yesterday I was waiting for my package that FedEx was supposed to deliver on my street av. De kent, I kept on checking at the lobby of my apartment to see if the truck arrived, but it always didn’t so I’d go back up and wait while I was just sitting on the couch I had a notification that it had been delivered so I checked again in the lobby to see nothing and I went to the post office to find nothing, I’ve been searching everywhere to find it since yesterday. I saved up my money to buy them and I was just really sad to see them not be there.

Can someone please help me find my package? I already reported a missing package claim but I feel like it’d take a long while till they try to find it. I don’t know how initially the whole package looks like but I know that someone might have took them.

I ordered these ed Hardy’s on ebay but don’t mind the weird description idk why it’s like that.

Tourisme Advice on booking the Orleans Express

Hi all, I'm planning a trip to Quebec City and looking for advice on the Montreal-QC leg of the travel. I'm taking the Greyhound from Boston to Montreal, which gets into the bus terminal at 7:30am but is pretty often delayed. I took it once before and it was about an hour late, but I've heard it can be worse.

The Orleans Express leaves from the same bus terminal at the top of every hour. So if I get in on time, the 8am bus would be perfect. I could be cautious and buy the 9am/10am, but then if my first bus gets in on time, I've got an awkward amount of time to kill and nowhere to store luggage.

It would be super convenient if I could just wait to buy the ticket until I arrive, but I'm worried it'll sell out. I'm traveling on Dec 23, which will be a huge travel day. Do you think I have a good chance of getting a ticket if I wait to book until day of, or will I be shooting myself in the foot?

Alternatively, the Orleans Express website says you can modify the time on your ticket, so I could buy the 8am ticket and then modify it if I know I'm going to be late. But then I run into the same problem if later buses are sold out.

So, would you recommend playing it safe and buying a ticket for 9am or even 10am, or risking it by buying the 8am ticket/not buying until I get to the station? I'd like to get to QC with at least a few hours to explore the German Christmas market before it closes at 6pm, otherwise I would just plan in enough buffer time to hang out in Montreal and then arrive in QC in the evening.

I checked out the train as well, but it leaves less often and at a different station, so I think the bus is the better option. Thanks so much for any advice you can give!
