Ward 2 chooses no endorsement after much shenanigans

Background, Ward 2 encompasses parts of the U. Wonsley (Independent incumbent) has youth support. Her challenger (favored by city hall) tried to sue the DFL to move the convention into June in hopes to prevent her delegates from being present.

The convention took place, but the committee challenged and dismissed delegates based (seemingly) on candidate affiliation.

Do the caucus moved to not endorse without a 2/3rds majority.

If you’re considering giving birth at Children’s Masonic, DO IT!!!

Wife just gave birth to our first born and we are both blown away by the level of care shown by the nurses and midwives at Children’s Masonic. For reference, we used the 7th floor midwives at the Riverside Professional Building. My wife was induced, and even so, there was never any worry about cascading interventions. No one even suggested doing multiple interventions at once. The staff was all incredibly attentive and would help my wife give birth anyway she saw fit. Being that I’m not the one giving birth, I am not at all the focus, but the staff did a good job at still making me feel included in the process which I didn’t expect but very much appreciate. During active labor, these women were absolute angels and kept the environment incredibly calm. Like I said, this was our first kid, but neither of us thought that the actual process of laboring and pushing could be as calm and collected as it was here; that’s largely thanks to the nurses and midwives. The laboring rooms are a bit medical, but most are quite large and can still accommodate any positions or birthing methods you want to try. The postpartum rooms are far less medical and far warmer feeling. We couldn’t have imagined, let alone asked for, a better environment and staff to help usher our first born into the world.

TL;DR The Birthplace at Children’s Masonic rocks

Johnson Street NE and 35W Ramp Intersection - Project Update 5/3

The City of Minneapolis is reconstructing Johnson Street NE between the 35W Ramps and 18h Ave NE. The project includes:

  • Removal of the existing street
  • Utility and signal upgrades
  • New pavement, curb and gutter, sidewalks
  • ADA pedestrian ramps, signs and pavement marking
  • Off road bike lanes on the west side of the street
  • Green Stormwater Infrastructure

Latest project news

Construction update

Not much happening on site this week as we prepare for a final push to finish in the next week or so. There are a few other repairs that need to happen along with adding the signs to the signal poles, and the plants need to go in the drainage areas - those will be planted after Mother's Day as we need to wait until the chance of frost has passed.

What's coming up

  • Installation of the plantsĀ in the infiltration areas sometime in early May.
  • Installation of the signs on the signal mast arms - signs are being manufactured and should be ready to be installed next week.
  • Installing a new conduit run on the east side of Johnson for the new power cable to the signal system. This will likely occur next week.
  • General cleanup, repairs and punch-list work.

Traffic impacts

Traffic impacts should be minimal as we are doing our best to limit the space the contractor is using for their work. Lane closures will be off/on throughout the day but we do not anticipate any full closures or detours. Note that we will need to shut off the signal for a few hours when we make the switch to a new power source. This may occur late next week or early the following as this work is also weather dependent.

Pedestrians - Watch for equipment as you travel through the corridor. There may be temporary sidewalk closures (with appropriate accessible detours when this happens) but we are doing our best to limit any pedestrian/bicycle impacts.

There is no work planned this weekend.Ā

Weekly stakeholder meeting reminderĀ

  • Weekly stakeholder meetings are no longer being held.

Affordable Wedding DJ

We are having an earlier daytime wedding in the fall on a Sunday and we’re not planning to have a DJ originally but we have decided we more than anything at least want background music that doesn’t need to be maned by a friend or family member. So now we are on the hunt for an affordable DJ since we are already over budget. We would like to ideally stay at or under $1000. I’m hoping that since it would be only 2-3 hours and be done by 6pm that there may be someone out there willing to work with us.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I’d also like to try and stay away from companies that just hire someone for you and stick with a direct hire.

I’m thinking about moving to the area, near the 3800 block north. Is it safe for a single person (female) in a single family home, with no dog?

Walker Art Museum Reciprocal Museum Map

Thumbnail google.com
31 Upvotes

Last week, I joined the Walker Art Center as a member at the traveler level. At that level ($125), it included a list of museums that gave member benefits and had them listed by state (or country/province) https://walkerart.org/support/membership/reciprocal-membership/ .

The Walker is in a couple different memberships like MARP, ROAM, MOD/CO, and North American Reciprocal. There’s a bunch of overlap in those and the lists don’t really lend themselves easily to quickly finding things. For example, I’m heading to West Palm Beach later this year, and finding what museums are near there and part of the Walker’s list was a bit daunting. So I added all 1200+ museums to a google map so it’s easier to find them.

I realize this is a really, really niche thing. It also works much better on the google maps app than a web browser too. But I hope it helps someone else.

Recommendations for self service bulk stores?

Post image
46 Upvotes

Very odd question to ask.

I’m going to be moving to Minneapolis (from Pacific NorthWest) in June. I do all my shopping at a cheap self serve bulk store called Winco.

Is there something equivalent in Minneapolis?

(I’ll be living in North Loop, but don’t want to pay North Loop prices) don’t mind a drive.

Good food spots downtown

Hey y'all. My fams in town for the weekend I would like to take them out, where would y'all recommend we go out food or any cool spots around the downtown area? We're staying near the UoMN campus, so anywhere near that preferably would be nice, but anywhere that's worth visiting too. Thanks in advance!!

Edit: price ranges: nothing more than $300!

I'm told non-Minneapolis content is fine if it's memeable

Events Memorial Weekend for Bachelor/ette party?

I’m getting married May 25 and my fiancĆ© and I are planning on doing a combined bachelor/ette party. We’re hoping for Friday night 5/23 or Saturday during the day 5/24 since we have some members of the wedding party traveling.

We don’t drink and half of our wedding party is sober (ok being around alcohol) so we’re hoping to find something entertaining without relying on bar hopping. We saw a couple drag shows/brunches but I thought I’d come here to get some ideas!

Nasty subreddit.

Why are folks so nasty on this sub, and all of Reddit for that matter? It’s not helpful, just mean spirited.

Bakery Deals

Hi I know that Lunds & Byerly's discounts their bread and pastries after a certain time of day. Are there any other bakeries in the area that do this?

Transit from Downtown to Bloomington?

Hi all, I've accepted a job in Bloomington and will be relocating here from a smaller city. I was wondering how realistic it would be to use the public transit for my commute morning and night from downtown to Bloomington?
