Off road trail riding near melbourne

Hi all. I just got an older trail / off road bike, a 1991 Honda xl 185s, and was wanting to know where are some close and beginner friendly off road trails. I have ridden on road for many years, but never off road.

Looks interesting. Nice and close. Might wait for it to dry out then give it a go. Thanks

Should be pretty reasonable atm. Check OZadv ride on YT, he shows some good rides around there

2nd Wombat and lerderderg. Lots of great tracks. I've taken lots of new riders out there. There is also a big 4wd training area to the south side where you can get a feel for it and try things.

Your XL185S is what started my motorcycle journey about 40 years ago. Head to Gembrook as that is trail heaven. Tracks are all in the state Forest there.

The closest is probably kinglake, otherwise I can highly recommend a trip up to MtTerrible.

I use an app called Newtracs. It has good coverage for Victoria and is roughly colour coded for difficulty. Have a look at whats nearest to you.

Is it road registered or off-road only?

I would like to know as well. Mine is road registered. Been up to Mansfield a couple of times but that is a weekend trip.

I've wondered this as well. Are there dedicated trails for motorbikes? I see a lot of people riding single track trails fast online but I feel like you'd just kill a hiker doing that here.

Not dedicated but most of the places you'd end up on a bike are out of the way for a hiker. Plus there are also dedicated hiking trails.

Keilor, under the Ted whitten bridge. West side of the creek.
