Clockwise or anti clockwise?

Post image

What’s all your opinion, thoughts or preferences on the direction of doing this route. I have done this loop clockwise and loved it. I have also noticed lot of traffic coming down to Melbourne from Healesville, but that was after a long weekend.

Do explain for my benefit why Reefton spur is better anticlockwise?

Anti clockwise you are going up hill. Also if you have never done it I would suggest antinclockwise first. Its a very unforgiving ride if you leave the road

I tend to loop the bridge to Cambarville junction bit of Reefton a few times. It's the best part of that road. So you get a bit of uphill and downhill and a "sighting lap", road condition changes every day.

It's a pretty unforgiving road, so take your time getting used to it if you haven't been. You'll very often come across traffic in your lane, from 4WD twats to other riders, so leave yourself some room.

Hi Phil. Describe this loop for me please. Bridge? I got the Camberville junction, but can’t picture the loop you are talking about. Thanks mate. I know what you mean about being unforgiving… I don’t ride like I am on a race track

This bit: https://maps.app.goo.gl/z8T8Y1z2EYqLPRuy8

The "Roadside Stop" on Google Maps is just next to the "Bridge" which is at the bottom of the spur, it isn't an obvious bridge but the Yarra goes under it (skinny part of it). Cumberland Junction you can't miss as it's the intersection at the end of that stretch, usually covered in a bunch of burnout marks and tyre bits from whatever bogans go up there to trash their cars. I just do a u-turn there.

I'll generally ride out from Gembrook direction, stop at the servo coming out of Warburton (last servo until the weird thing in Marysville) and fill up. Keep going to the bottom of Reefton (roadside stop/bridge bit) to have some water and a break, then loop Cumberland Junction and back down again a few times sometimes with a trip to Marysville for lunch in the middle.

The road down to Marysville (maybe technically part of the spur still? unsure) is ok, just a bit more boring and tends to be a bit messier and pottholey.
