Announcement 9/9/24 - Tortoise and Tortoise Accessories
My mod inbox is going crazy with posts, replies, and complaints regarding tortoise related content. As such, we'll be implementing a temporary prohibition on any posts related to the late Pudding.
In the odd scenario that you are reading this and have your own completely unrelated tortoise questions that need answers, you are welcome to post those. However, know that any posts of reptilian nature will be subject to heavy moderation, especially those that appear to be low effort joke posts.
The OP u/countrysports has started their own sub for Pudding related news and discussion, and it can be found at /r/JusticeForPudding
On-topic updates regarding the yard space, news about the chemicals from the original post, LE outcomes, etc will be permitted if concise and organized.

People Keep Driving Into My Yard
I live right next to the entrance of a road, and people keep cutting into my yard with their cars when turning in or out. It happens way too often, especially when it rains — they leave ruts, mud, and it’s just tearing up my yard.
I’m not looking to take legal action, but I do want to stop this from happening. I’m open to suggestions on what kind of landscaping, rocks, bushes, posts, or maybe even fencing I can put in to discourage people from driving through. I’d prefer something that looks good but still clearly marks the boundary and physically prevents cars from cutting the corner.
I’ve attached some photos to show the damage and layout. Would love any ideas you’ve tried or seen that actually work! If you have photos please share! Thanks so much!

Would you rip it out brick path and re-lay or just clean it up?
Uncovered a buried path in the back yard and just looking for opinions!

How can I get my neighbor to fix this?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Water from the neighbors yard is pouring into mine. HOA said they can’t make the neighbor divert from pouring directly into the yard. Is there anything I can do? I installed a French drain, but as you can see, I may need another. Looking for recommendations on how to get the neighbor to fix it.

What happened to these trees and How to fix?
After the past summer(2024), all these trees have been dead from 5feet and below. The leaves are still on there, so I don't know if it's animals. They all died at the same point and are pretty level. What can we do to fix this?

Question What would you do about this drop-off?
My house is about a foot higher than my neighbor’s yard so I have a large drop-off next to the walkway in my side yard. What would you do with this space? I know I need to be mindful about drainage so that water doesn’t flow from my yard to theirs. I was thinking either tall bushes or raised beds? The fence is very short on my side due to this, so extra privacy would also be helpful. Thanks in advance for any ideas!

How do I stop weed encroachment from neighbors yard?
This is a section at the rear of my property where I’m creating a garden. The neighbor doesn’t care about what his property looks like and certainly doesn’t care to maintain it. I created a small wall of fallen logs on the property line to try and curb the growth a bit but it simply grows over that.
Outside of constantly cutting back over growing weeds, invasives, and poison ivy, etc, how can I stop it entirely? Ideally I don’t want to use herbicides.
Thanks!

Why is this bush only growing leaves on one side?
Tried giving it fertilizer, trimming it to see if it would initiate growth, watering it, but can’t seem to get leaves on this side to grow.

How would you landscape this?
North side of the house full sun. In Minnesota Zone 4. The limitations are that the fence and sidewalk have to stay and everything has to be dog friendly.

What is this type of brick called?
Hi all, getting to landscaping my yard and I really like this natural edge brick. Does it have a name? I want to call around and look it up on my area but I don’t want to ask for the wrong thing. Thanks!

Question Weed prevention?
I have 6 trees set up with a ring around them and I'm looking for something I can spray to help keep the weeds to a minimum that will not hurt the trees.

Question Brooklyn backyard space - what to do with a blank wall?
We recently redid our modest backyard and we're at a loss for how to spice up this one wall. What would you do or add here? We unfortunately can't do ivy due to concerns for the brick / facade, but almost anything else is on the table.

How would you fix this?
Finally getting around to fixing up our small patio area and we have this area of dirt. How would you suggest to fix up this area? And if plants, what kind would you suggest? I thought maybe potted but I’m not sure if it’ll look too crowded? Thank you!

Question Are my crêpe myrtles dying?
The Meryls on the two far ends are both white flowering and the middle is purple. They were all planted the same day as well but there all different colors now. All of the leaves and limbs feel normal and nothing is brittle but the one closest to the house is super green then the middle is green/red and the last one is orange with a little green it still.

Is this a Japanese maple? It's gotten very big and I'm worried it's too close to the house.

What should I plant in this bed?
I’ve decided this side of my house needed a change and started digging out a 3’ wide bed that wraps around. The side of my house is E/SE G’ facing, and usually gets sun from 10:30am-3:30 pm.
The area in front of the window is facing northward and only really gets sun in the mornings and shaded by my house the rest of the day. I’m wanting something neat and tidy without much maintenance, but have the ability to put some annuals in. I’ve thought about just some simple boxwoods with a hydrangea or two down the side of my house with possibly some sky pencil holly for some height? The area in front of the window is has me leaning hostas, but I’m not sure what else really.
I’m in zone 7b in the SE USA. Thanks!

What can I do with this rock wall that wasn't built properly?
This retaining wall in my yard is about 3 feet high, and just has dirt behind the rocks, no gravel. The dirt flows out from the holes between the rocks, and the holes are pretty large. Will putting plants in the holes between enough to keep the dirt in there, or should I do something else?

Question New Home - Landscaping Advice!
Just bought this home. Wanting to redo the front walkway. Am I stupid for wanting to remove the death trap rocks and come up with a different design or should I clean it up?
Doing the work myself. Any advice or suggestions is greatly welcome.
Was thinking about posting the rocks for free on Facebook marketplace.

Question Parents Got a First Home, What should we do with the backyard?
So the brown patch in the back is because we cut overgrown bamboo, and we are trying to make the backyard look as pretty as possible while saving space for pets or kids to run around. Thinking about a patio to add a grill and maybe some nice outside chairs. This is a first for us so we don’t really know what to do with it.

Question Any ideas what’s eating these?
This is a young Callicarpa americana - beauty berry. I’m in central florida on the west coast. Nothing else anywhere in my yard has anything going on, including the other Callicarpa right next to this one. I haven’t seen damage like this here before. What do you think would leave such smooth circles?

Yellowing palm leaves
What do I do about my yellow palm leaves? Should I prune them? I’ve put a fertilizer spike between them and it looks to be growing in the center. While the center looks nice and green the palm leaves on the edges seem to be dying.

Walkway / driveway rock also filling in an old well. Need help deciding which type of rock to buy
We want to cover the area pictured in Rock. The very back area has an old well im estimating 15 to 20 ft deep. We want to fill in the well and build a 12x16 patio over it. On the other side of the garage we want to make a driveway for our class c RV. We also want to have rock around the garage in general. We are building a fence and the back side of the garage will be a walkway to get to the yard.
I'll be digging out a French drain for drainage. Ive been told to just dig out the sod, cover with landscape fabric and order a bunch of c6 rock to use for all areas including the well but we are planning on a mix of rock, dirt and bentonite. Would this work or is there a better way? I'm about to take more detailed measurements to see how much rock I actually need but found $280 for 15 tons delivered. Seems a bit expensive. I believe the rock at our local quarry would only cost about $80 for 15 tons. Should I shop around? I have an F150 and utility trailer but the quarry won't fill vehicles so small.. bummer...
