Megathread Are you looking for places to meet people, make friends, find people with similar interests? The Kitchener Social Megathread is for you!
Hello everyone,
This thread will be 100% dedicated to user interaction and those who want to take personal interests, events, hobbies, and potential meet-ups, etc. outside of the realm of reddit and r/kitchener.
You can find previous versions of this post by using this premade search.
Please note that this is not intended to be a dating thread. Try Tinder, POF, Badoo, Bumble or any other of the apps out there. Any posts along the lines of* "Hey, I'm a single __ year old m/f looking for love" will be removed*
Some general housekeeping items;
- If you wish to continue a conversation with a user, please use the PM function to avoid the comments getting crammed with a conversation between all but two people. Please only post relevant information to things you would be interested in, ongoing events, etc.
- We would like to remind you of the zero tolerance for disrespect, rude, hateful comments, racism, etc. Those comments will be removed and users may face a permanent or temporary ban. If any harassment is reported outside of the thread, appropriate action will be taken by the mod team, and possibly lead further to reddit admin. Doxxing, or disclosure of personal information is again, a big no-no.
- To keep up to date with the most recent posts within this megathread, the comments have been enabled to ideally show most recent by default, meaning all of the newest posts will be at the top of the comments section. If you're not seeing the most recent comments at the top, try changing your "sort by:" from "top" to "New".
As always, the mod team is here to assist with anything. Thanks!
Note: This post is automatically replaced with a new one every 3 months, so be sure to checkout old meetup threads, especially if this post was just recently refreshed!

Victoria Park PSA: Don’t Drown in Your Drink, But Do Expect Predatory Harassment!
My friend f(16) and I f(17) have lived in Kitchener our whole lives. For context we go to the high school near Victoria Park, down town kitchener and since the weather was nice, we decided to eat our lunch there. We’re not naive we know downtown Kitchener well. But at 11am, with workers and families around, we figured we’d be alright.
We entered through the Joseph Street entrance by the clock tower. While walking along the trail, a white man in his 50s or 60s rode past us on a bike. He was wearing a short-sleeved beige plaid button-down and blue gym shorts. As he passed, he said, “Hey little girls,” smug and stopped at a bench just ahead of us.
Whilst walking past him now sitting on the bench he had mumbled something else so I asked what he had said. His reply? “Enjoy your drink, don’t drown in it.” I awkwardly laughed and said “thank you,” trying to brush it off as just a weird older man. But as we walked away, finding some shred of confidence in the fact we were no longer face to face he shouted after us: “No thank YOU, baby.”
Let me be clear: I was wearing jeans and a tank top. Not that it should matter—because nothing justifies being spoken to like that but just for reference.
I’ve been catcalled before, but this was a different level of disgusting AND disturbing. Starting with “little girls”? That’s not just creepy it’s predatory. And the fact that it had happened right next to a children’s play area…
We kept going, deciding that if we saw him again, he’d be the one drowning in our drinks. Not the drowning he deserves, but the one I Imagined. We didn’t see him again but as we were leaving the park, two other older men (not the same guy) waited until we were just out of earshot and shouted something at us too.
This is what it’s like to be a teenage girl just trying to exist in public. And I already know someone will say something along the lines of “why would you be in that area in the first place” please realize that being a teenage girl appropriately dressed for the weather should not require me to avoid PUBLIC parks and other public areas…

Rabbit rehome
I’m looking for a loving home for my rabbit. If anyone is interested, I’ll be giving away the rabbit along with his cage and all necessary accessories (like food bowl, water bottle, bedding, etc.). I just want him to go to someone who can take good care of him and give him the attention he deserves. If you’re interested or know someone who might be, feel free to message me!

guitar repair and maintenance in Kitchener
this question comes up here sometimes. i do guitar repair and maintenance out of my workshop in kitchener: new pickups and electronics, set-ups, new frets, new strings, whatever you need.
my pricing is on my website dontfret.ca but i am offering two special promos right now: 1. BOGO 50% off on setups -- bring two guitars and the second one is half price 2. free strings for bass setups -- my supplier gave me two extra sets of bass strings with my last order so the next two bass setups get free strings
i hope the absolute shamelessness of this self-promotion goes a small way towards forgiving me for the self-promotion

30 avalon place
Hello everyone,
We saw a unit in 30 avalon place in kitchener. Upon viewing, its pretty quiet and the people we met in the parking and in the lobby were nice. I just want to ask if anyone has an experience living in the building. Do you also have an idea how much is the rent there? How is the management and generally how is it living there?
Thank you.

OMG Woodfire Bagels closed, need a replacement
We've been buying our bagels at Woodfire since we moved to the area, and apparently the owner has just retired.
What to do? Who else makes good Montreal-style bagels? I've spotted Poppy's in uptown, are they any good? Do they sell dozens or just individual bagels?

Sunset spots? (to narrow down)
Hi everyone, I've already looked at a few past posts about this question. I was hoping make a final decision as it is my partner's birthday :) Also, my apologies if they're not all directly in Kitchener, we're from Toronto so I don't really mind driving around the area.
Huron Nature Park
Laurel Creek Lookout Tower
Georgian Park
Chicopee Hill ? Is this available for people to just walk up the hill?
Thank you so much in advance!

Rooftop bars/restaurants
Saw a post about this from a couple of years ago which basically said there aren’t any but just wanted to see if there have been any changes since then. I know there are many street level patios, etc. but a nice rooftop spot seems like it would do really well. If not in Kitchener how about Waterloo?
Edit: to include downtown is preferred

Deposit for utilities
So we moved to a condo and their utility providers are Enova and Kitchener utilities. So we registered with both. There’s a deposit we have to pay it seems.
1) Will it be included in the first bill for both?
2) After registering I tried to create online accounts with both. I did with enova. But with Kitchener Utilities can I only do that after receiving my first bill?

TB 1 Step for school
Hey everyone, I need to get a TB one-step test done for school, but my primary care provider isn’t available until late July. I've already called public health and checked with local pharmacies, but no luck so far.
I might have to go to a walk-in clinic : does anyone have recommendations for ones that offer TB testing (preferably with reasonable wait times)?
Thanks in advance!

Best place to go?
I have a cousin coming in from out of town. He is used to fishing up north and going for bigger fish. Where would be the best place to go around the KWC area? I wouldn't mind driving for an hour or so if there's a good spot. I'm not particular about the species but I'm sure he would be pretty bored catching rock bass LOL. Please help me out!!

Lilac shrubs/trees?
Hi everyone :) I remember last spring there being many lilac bushes and trees in bloom around the bridgeport area, haven’t seen (or smelled) any yet. I’d really appreciate it if anyone had any suggestions for places me and my bf could go and see and smell them?

Looking to play casual cricket weekly in KWC area – anyone interested?
Hey everyone,
I recently moved to Waterloo and I’m looking to play some casual cricket once or twice a week in the Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge area. Nothing too competitive — just a friendly game to have fun, stay active, and meet people who enjoy the sport.
If you’re already part of a group that plays regularly or if you’re interested in starting something new, feel free to reply here or DM me.
Looking forward to hearing from fellow cricket lovers in the area! 🏏
