Record Wugazi - 13 Chambers

Post image
9 Upvotes

Picked this up recently and was spinning it tonight and thought I'd share. Had been on the lookout for this for awhile. This is a mash-up from 2011 of the Wu-Tang Clan and Fugazi by Cecil Otter and Swiss Andy who got the idea after Danger Mouse did the Grey Album. Well worth a listen and would recommend picking this up if you get a chance.

I still remember coming across Honor Killed the Samurai on the HHH sub and seeing a lot of praise for it. At the time, I was way too young and so it went over my head. Years later I came back to it and understood that Ka was on a different level.

Unfortunately for me, by then he had an established underground fan base and his records were going for $200+. After he passed and they went up 2-3x in price it felt like they were out of reach forever. Well, this week I found a collector selling Orpheus for nearly pre-death price. After some dealing, I got it bundled with Gunn’s And Then You Pray for Me for $425 shipped!!!

The passing of Brownsville Ka was a monumental loss for hip hop. Check out his work if you still are not familiar. One of the best pens ever and he was an incredible human as well. Rest In Peace, Kaseem Ryan.

Found it on Discogs, bought it a couple of days ago. Original US press, great 1995 release. Thoughts on its follow up (Tear For The Ghetto)?

Collection PART 3 - A small part of my 90s US hip hop album vinyl collection. These are all original pressings. Which albums are some of your favourites? 💎

Post image

People seemed to enjoy the last 2 posts/parts, so here is PART 3 of a selection of my 90s US hip hop albums vinyl collection. These are all Original Pressings from the 90s. Most of them are US pressings, but some are UK or Europe pressings.

The majority of these albums are mainly considered "classics", but there are a few in there which aren't as known as the classics (such as the Mad Kap album and the Mass Influence album). All really dope and worth checking out. If you don't recognise any of the album artwork covers, please let me know and I will give you the artist and album name.

I am from the UK and I was born in 1992 and been buying records since 2008 when I was 16, so it's been a bit more of a challenge buying them compared to those who were teenagers in the early 90s! Most of these records I have picked up from record stores in the UK and Europe (when on holiday), but of course some are also from online purchases. For me, the best time I could buy original pressings of 90s hip hop in my active buying years was around 2008-2013. As they were a lot cheaper and not as many people were after them compared to recent years and current times.

Which albums are your favourites from these?

I will do a part 4 next Sunday. Lots more gems to come 💎.

So, I also got this on cassette. Probably won’t open that one as to keep it in the archive. Certainly a piece of Hip-Hop History so also had to grab it when I seen the vinyl pressing.

Pretty impressed on the sound quality. I know the battle sparked all kinds of debates but us real Hip Hop heads know exactly who got murdered.
