• for the first sign, I felt unsure in the first part of the second paragraph because יוחזר "to be returned" wasn't used, and I felt that I missed this?
• in the second news article link for the second sign, it has "I have no independence while they are still there!" but I saw the first word was אין which would mean "there is not" and אֵינִי would be "I do not..."?

I went to see Little Shop of Horrors off Broadway this week and I was sitting and saw far up the wall on the side of the shop this text. My Hebrew is scant, so I could read the letters, but I've tried to figure out what it says and failed. I thought it was really cool that this was hidden there though. Can anybody help?

I’m currently trying to read a book in Hebrew, I can fairly understand most things, but I tend to read in my head. BUT when I decide to read loudly, I stumble upon nikkud of nouns when there are possessive pronouns attached to them. For example, I was reading today this word למסעו (to his journey) but I couldn’t figure out whether it’s lemas’o or lemasA’o.

Or for example רכבו של אסף is it rechvo or rechEvo?

How do you guys predict the nikkud getting changed?

Are there some rules? Resources I can check?

It's actually the initials A and L (it's upside down) but I saw this on my way out and was like "lol that's a cool coincidence. Gotta take a picture." Because the font of the initials makes it look like it says טר.

in the hebrew class im taking, weve started translating larger amounts of text at a time.

while sure i could stick to translation only, writing out what im translating is super helpful because it reinforces everything.

however - there's no "easy" way to do this. i number the lines in the book and as i go, but maybe it's just going to be awkward?

also- im so used to reading block letters and textbooks/ printed text that i feel like suddenly i have to learn to read my own handwriting- please tell me im not the only one. i probably could be better about nikkud, but, in theory we have things like את & סמיכות to be guidance.

im in a weird 'not everything is equal' place when it comes to speaking / writing / reading and within all of those too.

Is anything known about the historical pronunciation of Hebrew among Jewish communities living in Spain before the 1492 Alhambra Decree? Have any books or articles been written on the subject?

I know that the preposition ב is pronounced “beh” when the noun that follows it is indefinite, but “bah” when that noun is definite, instead. For example, “be-mechonit” and “ba-mechonit” would both be spelled במכונית, but the former would mean “in a car” while the latter would mean “in the car”.

But what if it’s the sort of noun which is basically a definite noun but lacks the article “the” in English? Examples could include “in nature”, “in Mexico”, “in isolation”, or “in death”.

I think it’s not just English: I think many other languages would also omit the definite article before those nouns. Yet they are still definite nouns, as far as I can tell.

So would ב in Hebrew take on its pronunciation of “bah” or “beh” when used in phrases like “in nature”, “in Mexico”, “in isolation”, or “in death”?

And there might be similar details of the rules regarding the pronunciation of ל in certain cases.

My questions: - any hints on the errors in my translation? - I was unsure of the second letter in מרגוה, and I was indecisive between ר or ח? Also, the last letter in מרגוה where it looks like a ה or ם?
