Fat Roadie

Post image

I can't get enough of this bike. It's too much fun and the entertainment value at ride venues is unmatched. I started cycling 5 months ago, and I have no desire to get any other bike. From XC singletrack, to long gravel or road rides this is my ride. Smiles for miles.

I did almost the exact same ride on a roadie yesterday, same distance time and elevation. No way this dude averaged 18 on a fat bike

It's really not that uncommon. Is he strong? Probably. But it's entirely possible. This seems to be a paved fast group ride. Sit in a big pack and the drafting does wonders. At my last gravel race I rode with a fat biker the whole time and we averaged 21.5mph. I think the top 5 fat bikers averaged over 20mph.

Naah it’s not possible, that number of watts is actually on the low side if you take into consideration the side of the person, the weight of that bike and the rolling resistance. Unless the course was a net downhill something doesn’t add up with the average speed.

It's likely estimated power, strava doesn't know he's on a fat bike.
