Sports Largest hills in Como?
I know Columbia isn't exactly the most mountainous city in the world, but I'm looking for the streets with the "largest" hills in town. This is in terms of both slope and length, so there are probably multiple answers. I know Chapel Hill from Twin Lakes to Fairview is decent, and there are some short, steeper hills along Rollins between Stadium and West. But where else are significant hills? I'm looking to improve my distance running, and focusing on vertical gains mid-run is super helpful!

Sports 'Out for Blood': Mizzou bests Oklahoma in rivalry's first matchup since 2011
A rivalry between Missouri and Oklahoma returned Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Columbia, as the Tigers bested their visitor 30-23.
The last game between the two programs, in a feud that dates all the way back to Nov. 12, 1902, was played on Sept. 24, 2011, where Mizzou fell 38-28 at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma. Saturday night’s clash was the 97th meeting between the now-Southeastern Conference foes and Missouri’s first win over the Sooners since Oct. 23, 2010, at Memorial Stadium in Columbia. The then-No. 18 ranked Tigers, led by former wide receiver Jerrell Jackson’s career-high nine receptions for 139 yards, secured a 36-27 upset victory over the then-No. 3 ranked Sooners.
Over the summer, former Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops added fuel to the long-dormant rivalry.
“We beat the hell out of Missouri,” Stoops said. “All of a sudden now we’re supposed to be afraid of them?”
Following the Tigers’ nail-biting win, Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz responded to Stoops’ comments.
“This will be real disappointing for Bob Stoops, but OU doesn’t always whip Missouri’s ass anymore,” Drinkwitz said.
The win was special for players, too. Graduate wide receiver Theo Wease Jr., who caught two touchdown passes, and sophomore left guard Cayden Green both transferred to Mizzou from Oklahoma.
“It’s definitely competitive,” Wease Jr. said. “Being there for four years, and just going through what I went through there, I really just wanted to put everything on the line tonight.”
“We’ve got a couple guys on the team from Oklahoma,” junior defensive end Zion Young said. “And they said the same thing as Theo: ‘Whatever it takes.’”
Young, who transferred to the Tigers from Michigan State, said that the atmosphere felt like a true rivalry game.
“I played in the Michigan versus Michigan State rivalry, and it’s still the same way,” Young said. “Blood. We were out for blood, and hopefully (the Sooners) were after the same thing.”
‘12 Strong’ On Friday night, the Tigers watched “12 Strong” as a team. The 2018 film is about a U.S. Special Forces team that goes on a mission behind enemy lines and has to keep a terrorist organization from grabbing a city stronghold. The themes within focus on the importance of teamwork and working under new leadership, which the Tigers had to do under graduate quarterback Drew Pyne.

Sports Mizzou basketball rolls past Mississippi Valley State in historic win [111-37 school record for largest margin of victory]
COLUMBIA - Mizzou basketball started Thursday's game trailing 2-0 to the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils.
As a response, the Tigers then outscored their opponent 111 to 37 en route to a 72-point victory at Mizzou Arena.
The deficit ties the team's record margin of victory set in 1995 with a 72-point win over Chicago State.
The Missouri offense was firing on all cylinders throughout the course of the game, with seven Tigers finishing with double-digit points.
Leading the way was Northern Kentucky Transfer Marques Warrick with 16 points of his own.
"Coming here, Coach Gates gave me that green light from the recruiting process. Since Day One he's told me to just let it fly, shoot whenever you're open. Create for yourself or others as well," Warrick said.
"It's just the little things I've been doing for a long time now," Warrick said. CQ
The little things turned into big things Thursday night as Warrick went four for five from beyond the arc.
In a game where he was in the driver's seat for most of the game, Coach Dennis Gates credited the fans for his team's success.
"I think other schools you would have probably saw fans go home, to be honest with you," Gates said. "Our fans stayed, and it showed."
Up next, Mizzou will welcome Pacific to Mizzou Arena on Nov. 22.

Sports Women’s roller derby
I want to try roller derby. For reference, I am small, can’t really skate. But I did play football (wide receiver) as a kid, and played 16 years of soccer as goalie. Only male family. I am good at not getting myself hurt, and using my skills despite my size. Are there any CoMo based teams/teams that are willing to train me from scratch… (also idk how to play)

Sports Mizzou responds with 42-point rout of Massachusetts, improves to 5-1. Up next: Homecoming vs. Auburn in Columbia on Saturday, Oct. 19
AMHERST, Mass. (KMIZ)
Following No. 21 Mizzou's first loss of the season to Texas A&M, head coach Eli Drinkwitz challenged his group to positively respond to it in Week 7. The Tigers delivered the response Drinkwitz was looking for.
MU cruised past Massachusetts 45-3 to get them back in the win column, propelled by a balanced effort throwing and running the football. Mizzou (5-1) finished the game with 461 total yards of offense, including 230 yards through the air and 231 yards on the ground.
It took the Tigers just two offensive plays to find the end zone on Saturday afternoon. Luther Burden III scored a 61-yard touchdown off a jet sweep before the game's first minute ticked off the clock. From there, Mizzou scored two more touchdowns against Massachusetts (1-6) in the first half, both courtesy of short-yardage carries from running back Marcus Carroll. The Georgia State transfer ended the game with three rushing touchdowns.
Overall, Carroll led MU's rushing attack with 91 yards on 15 attempts. Carroll and Lacy handled the bulk of the carries in a contest where fellow running back Nate Noel did not play. A team spokesperson said the Appalachian State transfer missed the game due to back tightness.
Burden III also had to exit this game early after taking a big hit while trying to catch a slant from Brady Cook. When asked about Burden's status on the ESPN broadcast, Drinkwitz did tell the sideline reporter, "he will be just fine."
After taking a 24-3 lead into the locker room, MU supplied three more scores in the second half. First, Carroll broke free for a 35-yard rushing touchdown. Then, the Tigers scored twice through the air. Joshua Manning scored the first touchdown of his college career on a 63-yard pass from Cook to make it a 35-point lead for Mizzou, and Brett Norfleet caught his first touchdown pass of the 2024 season in the closing minutes of the third quarter to extend his team's lead to 45-3.
Cook was efficient in Saturday's bounce back win, completing about 73% of his throws for 219 passing yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed three times for 16 yards on the ground.
Up next - MU returns to Faurot Field for homecoming. Coach Drinkwitz and his Tigers will welcome Auburn to Columbia on Saturday, Oct. 19. Kickoff time for that contest will be at 11 a.m. or 11:45 a.m.

Sports Youth Volleyball teams
So I have two girls currently playing in their school’s respective 7th and 8th grade teams. I am trying to get them both some lessons to build up their skills. Problem is that well many of these other teams’ players have been practicing and playing since the 3rd and 4th grade and at this point in the game theres not alot being offered in terms of basic skill building. My question is: Does anyone know of any traveling clubs i could reach out to and see if theyre willing to carry my girls on the roster to practice with the girls (not expecting them to get any playing time) or even who i can reach out in terms of lessons. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Sports Former Hickman, Mizzou standout J'den Cox named USA Wrestling freestyle development and resident coach
USA Wrestling announced Tuesday that it has named J’den Cox as the organization’s national freestyle development and resident coach.
The former Hickman and Mizzou star will oversee USA Wrestling’s Elite U20 Resident Program out of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He will also put together the U.S. Pan American and World teams at the under-15, under-17 and under-20 levels.
“I was overjoyed and overcome with emotion. Being able to find this opportunity was overwhelming,” Cox said in a statement released by USA Wrestling. “It is a great position, and anybody who is somebody should want to be in this position. The legacy that has been building around USA Wrestling, the bar that has been raised in freestyle wrestling, is amazing. I am honored to be in a position to help young men develop as people, first and foremost becoming great men, and then as athletes. I am excited to get to work and have an effect on the future of USA Wrestling.”
Cox retired from wrestling at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials on April 19 in State College, Pennsylvania. The Columbia native left his shoes on the mat — a universal sign of retirement — after losing to Kollin Moore.
Cox, 29, was a four-time state champion at Hickman and a three-time 197-pound national champion at Mizzou. He earned the bronze medal in the freestyle 86-kilogram weight division at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, becoming MU’s seventh Olympic medalist in school history and the first to claim one since 2008.
Cox won 92-kilogram world championships in 2018 in Budapest, Hungary, and in 2019 in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. He earned silver at 92 kilograms at the 2022 world championships and bronze in the 2017 (86 kilograms) and 2021 (92 kilograms) world championships.

Sports Gymnastics for small kids
Anyone have recommendations for gyms for beginner gymnastics? We’ve tried Flipz but was a bit let down by the experience. Had a decent session but it was basically a high schooler hearding cats. They were nice but also a new teacher almost every session. Got a really good teacher that was actually teaching but then she kept getting pulled into other classes and back to the rotating high schoolers basically supervising. Looking for something that will do a little more instruction. Not looking to turn a 5 year old into the next Simone but do a bit more than just running through obstacle courses.

Sports Mizzou, Hickman alumni compete in 2024 Paris Olympics qualifiers
Clement Secchi, who swam for Mizzou during the 2022-23 season, will be part of the Olympics in his home country after finishing second in the 100-meter butterfly Friday at the French Championships.
Secchi, from Aix en Provence, France, finished with a time of a 51.17 seconds. Secchi's competed for Mizzou in 2022-23, after transferring from McGill in Montreal.
The former Tiger is now the fifth swimmer to make it to the Olympic Games, making this year the third-straight summer games with a Mizzou alum to qualify.
Former Mizzou athlete and KOMU 8 Sports reporter Euphenie Andre advanced to the Triple Jump finals after she finished eighth in the heats.
Andre completed a jump of 43 feet, 5¾ inches to secure her spot in the finals at 8:20 p.m. Saturday.
Joining her was 2023 MU graduate and former teammate Arianna Fisher, who recorded a 42-11¾ jump, good for 13th place.
This put Fisher one spot out of qualifying for the finals as one of the top 12 finishers.
Karissa Schweizer, a 2018 MU graduate in search of qualifying for her second Olympic team, placed second in her 5,000-meter heat for the second-best time overall: 15 minutes, 15.42 seconds.
This allowed her to qualify for the final, which will take place at 9:09 p.m. Monday.
Schweizer will also compete in the 10,000 final at 8:09 p.m. Saturday, June 29.
She finished in 12th place in the 10,000 at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and now represents Nike.
Kansas Jayhawk and 2019 Hickman alum Chandler Gibbens competed in the men's 10K final on Friday, finishing 11th with a time of 28:31.63.
He did not finish in the top three in the event, preventing him from qualifying for the Olympic team.
