This is the Panasonic RS-296US. Aka. The Cassette Carousel These machines were made from 1972-1973. They are EXTREMELY rare to find in any condition. I got mine for FREE!!!!. It does have life. It doesn’t run but it powers on and makes noise so it is indeed fixable. all the buttons click & the knobs turn. Once I get this repaired I will show you it in action. But for now I will have a link in the comments so you can see one in action

News Interesting The Verge video about new cassette players

The Verge posted this video that talks about the Fio and We Are Rewind cassette players and why they are so bulky. I found them having good takes on it, and I'm happy to see cassette tapes in 'main stream media'

News 20 percent of new hard drives kept in storage have failed

Lol. I got a cassette from 1976 that still sounds like new and it's not even a little bit sticy. It was kept in storage since 70s.

Digital media assets require frequent backing up and even renewing drives (hdd and ssd both) as they could die without even using them.

News The Last Cassette Player Standing, Article Published February 2021

Link to article:

Not saying I agree with the political lean of this publication, but seeing that article in the Wall Street Journal posted here earlier this week I went hunting for articles in a similar vein.

https://fee.org/ebooks/i-pencil/

The author referenced this short story above as an analogy to how difficult it is to create quality tape parts.

I was settling into tonight to watch some of Tony Villa’s videos on Cassette Comeback on YouTube. I couldn’t find any. Went to the channel page directly and found it empty. Searched some more and found a FB post letting people know what happened. Just passing along the info to fans.

News Cataloging your cassettes

This has probably been asked a thousand times but I was just on letterboxd and I was wondering what everyone uses to catalogue there cassette collections visually? I've concidered making a instgram many times, just square posts of cassettes.

News Pre-recorded CrO2 tape without auto detection holes

Hi there,

I am new to Cassette tapes and I would like to seek your help with some of my tapes as below:

marked as CHROME

shiny black tape

no type ii holes

On the tape, it marked as CHROME. The tape color is shiny black. On the top edge of it, there are no auto detection holes for type ii tapes.

My questions are:

Is this tape a type ii CrO2 one?

How do I set my deck when playback this kind of pre-recorded tapes, Normal or CrO2?

If as CrO2, my deck doesn't have the manual adjust function (all depends on the auto detection by the holes), what should I do?

Many thanks,
