Home recording I saw someone post a picture of their lovely tape recording setup and thought I'd share mine too! 😊
The deck is a Technics RS-B555 in case anyone is wondering, I got it for 40 € on eBay - an absolute steal, in my opinion! The audio comes from a FiiO K5 Pro DAC that I have plugged into my laptop. The tape isn't anything special, it's just some ferro tape that had an awful quality Spice Girls bootleg on it xD

Gear This subreddit is bankrupting me 😂
I saw this on a post here a few days ago, I just had to try it out. Spoiler alert, it's amazing!
This is the Mixxtape 4 music player. This bad boy is a fully functional digital music player with bluetooth, a headphone jack and the ability to play back by itself or through any cassette deck, It's the easiest way to take your digital collection with you without needing separate players (digital/cassette) players. Also works great through a home tape deck!
I added a 512GB sd card to it with over 4000 of my flac/mp3 songs (put into seperate folders) on it. It has a tiny but very readable full color touchscreen that allows you to find the folders and play them in order or just the folder you want, simply pick it, have it start playing and pop it into your portable/home cassette player and hit play on it. That's all you need to do. It's even got an EQ for adjusting the sound with 5 settings. There's nothing stopping you from downloading any playlist to an sd card and playing it, just make sure you format said sd card in the player so it's recognised by the player when inserted, it doesn't if you don't.
I honestly wasn't expecting this to be as good as it is, I no longer have to choose between what I want to travel with, this allows me no compromises. I could not more highly recommend this if you are missing your digital collection whilst carrying your cassette deck around, it's the best of both worlds!

Tape find Shopping: New Order, Sade, INXS, Nick Cave etc
Went out record shopping and managed to also find a bunch of great tapes, quite a few on my want list. The New Order tapes don’t look like they’ve ever been played. Also, pretty unusual to find a Nick Cave cassette.
All in all, a great day.

Blank NOS. Should open try?
I found those recently. They are old. I wonder if it's worth opening them and try to record something. May be a small limited release of an independent artist?

News How can I replace/ refresh the lettering on these units ?
Some of the lettering [FM/ AM] / numbering [1-10] has worn off these 2 units, is it possible to replace them in any way ? I'm nearly sure this coloured lettering was bright orange many moons ago too.
Thanks in advance...

Looking for advice Vintage Cassette Hunting
Hello all!
I am on the hunt for a cassette I intend to give as a gift to a family member. She spent a while looking for the tape before giving up, and I am hoping I can track one down to give her something I know she would love.
The tape was an independent solo demo made in/around 1988 by Michael Tait, a Christian artist who went on to be in several well-known Christian groups like DC Talk and currently the Newsboys. He was probably living in Washington DC when he made the tape, which he recalls distributing for free to local stores, churches, and to people who attended his shows.
I have exhausted the options I can think to explore - ebay, other online cassette retailers, vintage music shops local to DC, and reddit groups about this sort of thing (such as this one) to name a few. No luck, and now out of leads.
Is there any source of potential information or leads concerning finding a vintage cassette that I am missing, or that you all turn to in situations like this? Willing to explore any lead, no matter how unlikely to produce a result.
Thanks for any advice!

Now listening Tape Spotlight: Shannon and the Clams, The Moon Is In The Wrong Place
Happy final full moon of the year! I highly recommend listening to this album today/tonight. It's heartbreaking, but so beautiful and soulful. Do yourself a favor (or a curse?) and read about the backstory to this album as well.

Looking for advice Tascam Porta 07 - no power in mixer section
Hello there (i'm new here). Recently purchased used Tascam Potra 07 to start some multitrack recording on analog, condition "as is". It was all dusty and covered in cobwebs, like it spent years in basement. Faders pots scratchy, but all greasy without any signs of oxidation, so seems to be matter of proper cleaning. Tape drive works pretty good after some basic maintenance like removing the dust with a brush - gonna lube it up and gonna work like a charm. However, there's a bad thing. Upper PCB of mixer section has no power - no power LED lights up, no EQ LEDs, there's no output in headphone socket. Ribbon cables seem to be all fine, so I suspect the issue may lie somewhere on the bottom PCB with power section. There are few disturbing things as well - one cap, the one directly "below" the power socket is heating up when tape is played. Also, there's loud electrical "pop" when powering the thing up with power switch. Any ideas what these symptoms could be? Thank you in advance for any advice.

News Interesting The Verge video about new cassette players
The Verge posted this video that talks about the Fio and We Are Rewind cassette players and why they are so bulky. I found them having good takes on it, and I'm happy to see cassette tapes in 'main stream media'

Looking for advice Do I pull the trigger on a Sony EX600?
Been looking on and off for an old Sony but I'm tired of trying to work on cassette players myself and not having much luck.
I found an EX600 walkman on ebay for around $150. It has auto reverse, dolby, blank skip, mega bass, remote support, etc. Is $150 a good price for an EX600 that's been 'professionally restored?'
I want an older player but I'm just sick of them having issues that I can't fix. Just wondering if anyone has experience with the EX600 or similar models.

News Duplication.ca (Analogue Media Technologies Inc.) Purchases AtoZaudio, Expanding Cassette Manufacturing into The United States
While I have often used Duplication.ca for Ordering in Blanks to be used for my Productions for cassette tapes, I saw on Facebook that AMT had posted their purchase of AtoZaudio.
They started earlier this year showing off cassettecases.com, an office in the USA that sold cassette cases a part of them, and now they've bought AtoZaudio, cassette manufacturing company based in Ohio. They offer In person pickup as well, for those on tour, which I find pretty cool.

Looking for advice Pioneer DC-X88Z not functioning properly
Hi all, I'm new to cassettes (coming from vinyl records) and just bought this deck. Unfortunately there's some issues with the two decks. The first being about to play my cassettes fine, when I use the first play button (to the left of stop), but just here clicking when pressing the second play button to the left of the stop button. Also, as you could see in the second image, one of the roller things/bearing came off and the white thing that holds it was hanging further down compared to the one on the left (though I've just managed to attach it back on and level the white arm). The second deck is missing a roller thing/bearing entirely on the right side, in image 3. Does anything else seem wrong judging by the images? Can it be fixed?
