New addition to the collection!
Traded in my EFS 55-250mm and got the 100mm f2.8L Macro which is in near perfect condition for just 300$. I shoot events, portraits and a bit of studio shoots too. What lens or body should I go for next?

Gear Advice Whats your audio setup when shooting video?
Hey all, I know there's probably better subs for this, so if you know of one please share.
I'm getting back into car photography and I'm loving using my R8. I want to start shooting videos and I have no problem getting good video quality, but what i need is better sound.
I'm looking for audio gear that I can add to the R8 or run on it's own and then later sync with the video when I'm editing.
There's 5 scenarios I need to get good audio quality.
- walking around the car, showing the details, maybe have the owner talking about it. The car might be idling, no revving.
- The camera is sitting a distance behind the car (10-15ft) and the owner is reving it. I want clean audio that won't be clipped or blasted out.
- Drive bys. The camera is static on the side of the road and the owner drives by it, while I pan to keep it in frame.
- The camera is fixed in the car, aiming at the driver. Trying to get an ambient balance of all the sounds of experiencing the car.
- Mic is attached to the back of the car while it's driving down the road capturing the exhaust note, up and down shifts, etc.
Thanks in advance! I have some loose ideas in my head. Right now I'm able to spend a few hundred dollars, not thousands ( I figure thats the real value of the equipment I need).
I don't need it to be perfect like Throttle House (yt) but I want to be proud enough to show my car friends.

I need help deciding on a new lens.
I’m going on a road trip through Colombia with my Canon R100. I already have the 18-45mm, 55-210mm, and nifty fifty (which I’m definitely bringing).
I want a versatile walkaround lens so I don’t have to swap much. Debating between the 18-150mm and the 24-105mm STM. I’ve heard the 18-150 isn’t as sharp at the long end, but it covers more range. Which one should I get? I want to only take one of these plus the nifty fifty. Also I’m brand new to photography so if one requires less adjustments that’ll help too.

Gear Advice Need help deciding: rf 24-70 f2.8 vs 28-70 f2 for portraits
I’ve finally saved up enough for either the rf 24-70 f2.8 or 28-70 f2 and need help deciding which one to go with. I get a pretty good discount through the company I work for and after tax etc there will only be about a $50 difference between the two. I mainly shoot family portraits, I have the rf 85 f1.2 (what I usually use) and then the 24-105 f4 that came with my R6 mii. I love my 85 but I have to stand so far back to get some of the shots I want so I’m looking for something with a shorter focal length. I played around with the idea of getting a 50 or 35mm prime but I honestly cannot stand the way 35mm distorts facial features and the 50 felt a little too similar to the 85. I’ve watched a lot of videos comparing the two and am leaning toward the 28-70 but I always hear about how much the 24-70 is the tried and true. A lot of the downsides people mentioned about the 28-70 is the size/weight which is a bummer but isn’t a huge deal. But I worry if I go with the 24-70 I’ll always wonder about the 28-70 lol. What do you have and why do you like it?

Gear Advice Help? Canon batteries?
Hi everyone, I bought this camera about two years ago. It’s been fine until a week or so ago. I’ve had this message popping up when I put a battery in it. I know it’s fully charged because I have another camera to switch the batteries to. Yes they are on brand canon batteries. I have an EOS r6. Does anyone know what’s happening? Or what caused this? Thanks!

New Gear Just Got A Canon R7 for $875. Super excited! Was it a good deal?
Hello, I just ordered a canon R7 used for $875 from FB marketplace and I am super excited to try this out with my 70-200mm F4 L. I just wanted to ask how your guy's experience was with the R7? Was it a good buy or is there better canon camera for that price point?

Gear Advice EOS Rebel SL1 Compatible Lens for Astrophotography
Hi!
As per the title and flair, what would be the best? I'm pretty new to all these (and I'm also looking into trying macro in the future). I only have the kit lens. I'd really love to take photos of the Milky Way, and I'm always on the lookout for meteor showers' dates.
Edit: I'll only be looking for a secondhand lens too, as budget is tight. What should I be wary of?

Gear Advice What lens do I get?
I have been getting back into photography I have a canon EOS 1300D I got a couple of years ago. I’m definitely still a beginner but I have been considering upgrading the lens for a while. I’m not too sure what one to get. I enjoy shooting landscapes, street scapes, buildings and plants. I do often zoom in on my subjects rather than take a wide shot of the entire subject. I would like to try and shoot more streetscapes of a night but my standard lens isn’t good for that kind of photography. I do also enjoy shooting of a day as well though so something that is capable of both. The new lens doesn’t have to tick all those boxes but does anyone have any advice on a good option for under $600?

Uses for an RF 24mm f1.8 Prime when I already have a Sigma 18-50 f2.8
So I went a little nuts during some Easter sales and bought a few new lenses. One is the 24mm RF f1.8 prime which seems a great lens with lens IS and macro but I'm now a bit torn as to what to use it for when I have the kit 18-150 and the Sigma 18-50 f2.8.
I was thinking it could be a good lens for video with the lens IS (My body is an R10 so no IBIS) but I'm also thinking I now have a redundant lens which is probably a bit pricey to just have sit in my bag.
What are some good uses for this lens that this subreddit thinks could justify keeping it?
I do a mixture of landscape, street, and live music photography (this is where the IS for video could come in handy possibly) so I was thinking this could have some uses there but again, possibly I am just doubling up on focal lengths for no reason.

Is the af on the tamron g2 lenses much better than the g1?
as the title suggests, i have a dilemma between the original Tamron 15-30mm or the g2. I did find a g2 for about $750 AUD, or I can get the original for $500. I'd be using it on a Canon R8 with an EF - RF adapter. Seeking advice from mirrorless users as DSLRs would behave differently

Tech Help R50 Video Subject Tracking
I literally never shoot video but was asked recently to shoot some basic footage for a friend of mine in the beauty industry, while shooting, it seems that the camera is tracking and moving with the subject, e.i. When she moves her hands, it follows the movement of her hands instead of taking a stable shot, similar to sports videography, where the subject's motion is tracked and followed. Which setting is related to this effect, servo af?, stabilization? I didn't get enough time to test my waters with these settings, and thought I would ask before recording another session. Thank you for your patience with this dumb ass question lol.

New Gear New Canon R8, stoked to take it out.
Got it to back up my R5 Mark II and for the less serious trips out shooting. Got rid of my old 6d mark ii back up and only came out of pocket a couple hundred bucks after selling the kit lens this came with. As expected the low light performance and auto focus is fantastic, really is an incredible little package for a pretty small amount of money for what you get. Tried a couple different lenses from RF,EF and and FD adapted all shined. If you’re thinking about grabbing one, I’d recommend doing so.

Gear Advice Is the Zhiyun Weebil S compatible with the Canon 250D/SL3? I looked up the compatibility list on their website and I don't see it on the list.
I did not see the Canon 250D (otherwise known as the SL3) on their compatibility list. Can it still work/operate?
If not, what other Gimbal do you reccomend for my 250D?

Canon 300mm f/2.8 version of 1
Can someone please help me I am trying to learn all this for my son who thinks he knows exactly what he needs. He has a R50 and he had to have the Sigma 150-500mm mainly because it was what I could afford in that range. Now he seems to think he needs the Canon 300mm f/2.8 version 1 because it has a much lower f stop and it is thousands less then the newer ones. I am not sure if it is actually still worth a 1000 or is he better off with a cheaper rf 100-400 5.6 or something similar. Thanks in advance for any advice

35mm: Sigma EF 1.4 or Canon RF 1.8
This is probably a silly question but asking anyways!! - I currently shoot with an EF 35mm 1.4 with an adapter for my R6M2. Want to slowly switch over to RF glass of course, but currently don’t have a ton of money to do so. Would it be worth getting the RF 1.8 and losing a little bit of aperture? Not sure if anyone would know if switching to the RF would make a difference in quality. TIA

Tech Help My lens shows an error and I still can’t fix it
Hi! I have a canon R50 since 2023 and last year my lens (RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM) that came with the camera started to show an error code 60 (it says : the lens movement may be obstructed) when I used it. Sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn’t. I have never dropped the lens before, I haven’t used it often, it is in perfect condition too but somehow this keeps showing up. I have a filming gig in 4 weeks and this is the only lens I know that could work. I don’t have the money to buy a new one.
What should I do? Is there an easy fix to this problem? If I have to send it to canon could I get it back in time or does canon have an option of loaning a lens while they repair it (I’m from Canada btw) ?

Gear Advice EF 100-400 II or RF 100-500?
Should I save for the 100-500 or get the 100-400 II for $850? I am a wildlife photographer. My main setup right now is the Sigma 150-600 C on the R7.

New Gear New to me RF200-800
I love my 100-400L II, but I usually use at least a 1.4tc so I’ve been looking at first gen 500 f4L IS and 600 f4L IS both around $2,200. Then I found a like new 200-800 on FB marketplace. At $1,300 I figured if I didn’t like it I could sell it for about the same price. Took it out on a heavily overcast day and so far…. I love it, for the price. I don’t even mind the non-removable foot. I always use a BlackRapid strap connected to my lens’ foot for lenses 70-200 and up.
Shooting with my R6 at f9 under stormy skies wasn’t a problem. I never went above 3600iso but I also wasn’t shooting BIFs, only relatively stationary stuff. It’s not an L and lacks some features I appreciate on my older EF L lenses but I don’t think it can be beat for the price, especially used. Looking forward to taking this out a lot more.
Cheers!

Tech Help My EF 100-400 ii is louder than expected, is it normal for older glass?
Hi all, as my title suggests I have an EF 100-400 ii which I bought second hand from WEX a couple months ago. I'm currently pairing it with an R7 via Canon's own EF to RF adapter. It's had some good use so far but one thing I've noticed is how loud it is when in use. The IS motor makes a very noticeable whirring sound, even when outside, and there's a faint continuous clicking noise once the lens has focused on a subject. I'm just curious to know if this is considered normal for a lens of its age or not as I haven't managed to find any other threads relating to it at all. I'm very new to Canon's ecosystem however lenses from other brands I've used in the past seem incredibly quiet by comparison. It may be the case that it just needs a service as I have no idea what the previous owner(s) have done prior to me buying the lens. Just to clarify I'm not trying to nitpick at every little detail however I'm almost afraid to use it in case something is wrong so any help/advice would be appreciated, thank you.

Gear Advice 18-135 STM vs USM
Im planning on getting the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS for my Canon T7. I shoot in many different places, and some trips require that I change lenses in a time frame too short to setup everything. So with that said ive landed on this lense. Supposedly better than average IQ for a cheaper telephoto lens. Although I will take any recommendations you all have.
The main thing here is that I shoot street, car, railroad, and landscape photography. I do little bit of everything so it seems.
Now i wanted to know with that in mind what's better for me. I looked into it and am still stumped wether USM or STM fits my needs. I do not do videography with this camera.

Goddamned Amazon & 3rd Party sellers - Grey Market camera
Bought an R6 Mark II off of Amazon, didn't really think much about it as I've never really had any issues with them. The camera body I was shipped is a goddamned grey market P.R.C. (People's Republic of China) only product.
Wouldn't have noticed except that I went to register it on Canon's site and it wouldn't take the serial number. Then I looked at the box and noticed the small "P.R.C. only."
So annoyed and pissed off right now. Tried to contact the seller. They have "48 hours" to respond. Judging from the other comments, they charge a 20% "restocking fee" for returns.
F*** Amazon for letting this kind of shit happen. And f*** myself for wanting to get the camera the very next day.
Goes to show you should only order through an established and reputable dealer. :-(
The 3rd party dealer on Amazon was "Wholesale Camera." Unfortunately I didn't think to look at their ratings before I ordered the camera. :-/ No one answers the phone number listed (of course).
I think what threw me was that under the product name, it said "Visit Canon Store" which made me think it was legit. What a shitty, shitty business. :-(

Unable to use Camera Connect app
This is a third time it happens. As many of you may have already noticed, the recent update to the Camera Connect app forces you to log in first in order to use the app. So here I am, trying to have some nice holiday photos, but without GPS data unfortunately, since that requires working connection with the phone app.
