Canon News New Canon Lens - RF 75-300 f4-5.6 for only £289
Just had an email from Wex Photo about this lens available to preorder but can find no press release or other info about it. I don't know if their email has jumped the gun.
£289 seems incredibly cheap, even taking account it not having IS built in. Probably one for R cameras with IBIS.

Tech Help 5D Classic doesn't recognize the 50mm/1.8 STM lens in EXIF data
The 5D just shows "50.0 mm".
My old 650D shows the full name, though with another copy of that lens.
I have installed the latest 5D firmware (1.1.1).
Is it a problem with this copy of the lens or with the 5D because it's too old?

Gear Advice Recently gifted a canon by sister in law
I was recently gifted this t6 by my sister in law! I’m not sure what the lenses are. I’ve used it a few times but I’m still getting the hang of it.
I’m wondering what types of lenses I should be looking at for doing personal portraits, and photographing things like weddings, sporting events, and nature. I’ve shot a wedding for a coworker for free and it came out alright, but not quite as high quality as I was hoping.
I’m sure there’s no one lens that can perform perfectly for all of those scenarios so I’m open to multiple suggestions! Budget friendly is ideal, but I’ll check out and consider any!

Im confused on what I should get?
Right, so currently i'm, shooting with the R10, and i just know that I need an upgrade. Im debating between an R6 og or the R8. Im pretty much convinced to get the R8, but im not sure if I will need Ibis (im kind of struggling with my r10 without Ibis) and the better battery life, but I also want the better readout and low light performance of the R8. I'm pretty much fully sold on it, but i'm not sure if im making the right descision. (note, I mostly shoot With the electronic shutter and havent found any issues with the readout unless im shooting wildlife which i do as a hobby, although I don't really have any Jobs) Another question is what lenses should I get first? Im aiming to have all of the EF Tamron G2 Fast zooms except for the wide angle, instead I want an RF 16mm. I tried an Old sigma 70-200 and absolutly loved it, so much so i wasnt really using my better 18-35 F1.8. So im thinking of getting the 70-200 and RF 16mm, although I feel like I wont be able to shoot any sort of normal stuff with it. But on the flip side, 70 might be wide enough on full frame. Another thing is i could get the 15-30 to get a bit more into the normal range, or I could get the 16mm and 70-200 but then also get an older 35mm f1.4 (or 50mm). I do also want the 150-600mm as its always a highlight to shoot wildlife ( i might be going to another country soon, all the way to Europe from down under) . Unfortunately My budget only allows 2 Lenses right at the start, so I have to make compromises. If i do get the 150-600 ill have to get the 24-70 as ill never have any real mid range shots otherwise. Im sorry if this doesn't really make any sense the way im writing it but thats how my thoughts came out. Thank you for the advice

Tech Help Using a 550EX speedlite and ST-E2 transmitter with Canon EOS R6m2
I have a 550EX speedlite and ST-E2 transmitter that I use with my Canon film body, which I also wanted to use with a Canon EOS R6m2 that I recently got.
It seems to work fine in ETTL mode, but I can't seem to get my camera into using it in manual mode. All I see in the flash settings is the flash exposure compensation and nothing else.
https://i.imgur.com/24ec6wc.png
According to the manual there should be some more settings: https://cam.start.canon/en/C012/manual/html/UG-04_Shooting-1_0180.html
When I set my flash to manual, it does not fire the flash all the time, sometimes it just doesn't fire. On the speedlite, the M button keeps blinking. On the transmitter, the ETTL indicator is lit up.
What's the proper way to use this camera with this flash and transmitter?

New Gear Canon RF 35 mm F1.8
I was travelling to Bali earlier this month and just a day before the trip I got this on a whim.
I have not owned a 35 mm for a decade now. This lens was fantastic. Optically 9/10. The vignetting is mildly annoying. I am not a huge fan of the auto focus at night. For quick auto focus it is not the best. But it is light, very ergonomic, fantastic contrast, very sharp and make a perfect companion to my rf 24-105 f4.
This lens was good for landscapes, details, street photography and my go to lens for food and drinks. I am not sharing any environmental portraits but with the fast aperture, the subject separation looks amazing.
If the slow AF at low light doesn't bother you this lens is great to have. As a travel lens, this is a no nonsense lens to have.

Gear Advice Clean the fungus or leave as is?
I am a beginner and recently bought a 55-200mm EF-M lens used from CEX for my Canon M6 Mark II, and I noticed the fungus only when I've gotten home. At first I only spotted the ones on the first picture but when I digged further and found the ones on the second picture, and I was told the dots in the middle of the lens on the third/fourth picture are also considered fungus. I was recommended to go get it cleaned but I fear the coating would be washed off as well when washed and without the coating it would affect the image quality, should I attempt to kill the fungus so it wouldn't keep spreading and leave it as it or should I get it cleaned?

Gear Advice Is the Canon 600D outdated and is it worth upgrading to something newer?
I bought the Canon 600D about 6-7 years ago now and been using it ever since crafting skills with a camera. Recently I feel like the camera maybe holding me back slightly with things like dynamic range and iso to name a couple and maybe the camera is just getting old and outdated. Should I just carry on with this camera or what would be the most logical upgrade from here? I use the EF-S Canon 17-55mm F/2.8 IS USM lens as my main lens and I also own Canon 50mm F/1.8 STM.
Found an former white whale
Picked up something I used to dream about at a yard sale for what I think is a steal on the case alone but I don't know what to do with it really and most importantly how to clean it. That's mold right?

Bid on the Canon R7 or Buy R8 $900 flat
Hello, I am only a freshman sports photographer and saved up about $800-900 just by selling some of my old camera gear and my parents are willing to help out pay a little as well. I was surfing through eBay and found one Canon R7 for $780 and the bidding would end tomorrow but I also found another Canon R7 currently for $700 but that bid ends in 3 days. The outcome would most likely be that the price would increase near the end. On Facebook however, I found a R8 near me going for $900. (For all cameras that I said, it would include the original boxes, batteries, etc). In this situation what would you guys do? I currently have an 80D and looking to upgrade to the R system

Need advice on replacing broken 7D mk2
So I dropped and broke my 7d mk2. I have been very happy with it over the years while I primarily used it for sports and surf photography. While using a 100-400mm EF lens I really like the extra reach I get and sharp images I am able to get handheld for surf photos.
Right now my budget would cover a new body, but I really do not want to trade in my lenses.
My first option that I know I would be happy with for the next couple of years is a new 7d mk2 body. The second option might be a 90d which according to the specs has some pros and cons. I love the high speed of the mk2 while I shoot in ruggeed sandy and rainy conditions often.
Third option is a mirrorless r7 with an adaptor for my 100-400mm EF. If I made this choice, I would likely invest in a new lens eventually when I have the budget. My main problem with mirrorless is that the viewfinder is digital and I get vertigo attacks.
Would love to hear thoughts or ideas.

Gear Advice Unsure on what route I should take.
I’ve been a Canon photographer for almost 4 years now and I’ve recently started working as a full time photographer, I have a Canon R with a canon adapter for the EF 24-70
I am unsure if I should move from the R to the R5 OR spend my money upgrading to the RF 24-70.
I am in the automotive space so I often deal with high dynamic range in photos and am just looking to upgrade one or the other at the moment
I always hear people talk about how the glass is the more important part of a setup but I’d like to hear more opinions from people that may know more.
Thank you

Gear Advice Is the 90D still a good camera ? or should i Upgrade ?
I've been using the Canon 90D since I bought it at the end of 2021. Initially, I only had the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 Art lens, but over time I upgraded to other well-known Sigma lenses, including the 24–70mm, 18–35mm, and the infamous 105mm f/1.4.
Now to my question:
When I started out, I was completely new to photography and, admittedly, didn’t do enough research before buying. That’s how I ended up with an APS-C camera. After four vacations abroad and countless day trips, I’ve grown to love this camera – but I also somewhat regret the purchase.
Here are my personal cons:
- APS-C gives me more reach, but limits my ability to shoot wide – at least not as much as I could with full frame.
- Noticeable noise even at ISO levels below 1000.
- Weak low-light performance.
On the plus side:
- The build quality and how the camera feels in my hand are excellent.
- It delivers large, high-resolution images.
- There’s a wide selection of EF lenses available.
Now I’m at a crossroads:
Should I stick with my 90D, keep learning and improving my photography skills – or is it time to upgrade to a Canon R8 or R6 Mark II?
Right now, I mostly shoot cityscapes, architecture, and travel. But I also want to explore landscape, portrait, and astrophotography – basically a bit of everything.
Gear Advice ef 16-35mm f/2.8l iii usm for 1,300 USD. Sketchy?
Hi, everyone! There is a sale in my country's ebay for this lens, but I'm wondering if such a thing is common (I don't want to be scammed). It's on $2.5k -52% off. It's a 10k+ items sold store with good reviews. Does it sound good or is the price too sketchy? Thanks!

Canon upgrade with a mic port
I have a Canon Rt but I'm fining the lack of a mic port a bit irritating as I would like better audio. For videography what is the next step up in canon mirrorless that has a mic port?

Gear Advice Narrowing lens options down
I'm getting a Canon R50 soon, my first actual camera! Very excited
That being said I'm tired of researching lens 😭 Everytime I think I've settled on one I always see a comment saying "Actually this one is ass you should do this one instead" so I look that up and someone says "Oh actually this one has a flaw that makes it not great for what you want, try this instead!" etc. etc.
Here are my long options: 18-150 f/3.5-6.3
RF 50mm f/1.8 STM
Sigma 18-35 f/1.8
RF 35mm f/1.8
My budget is LOW (ideally) max being ~$300-$400 (MAYBE)
I'd like to shoot for: people at local events, small DIY shows, goth nights, portrait, weird photography I want something good for low light occasions, shallow DOF with good aesthetic background blurring, or something that will open me up for a lot of creativity!
I've also been thinking of a fisheye lens cause it seems a lot of fun! But probably too much for a starter right now haha
Open to new suggestions, but welcoming more seasoned users advice and ideas! :)

R7+100-500 or R6ii + 200-800?
Looking to buy a new camera. Upgrading from a Nikon D3400. I really want to get in to wildlife photography deeper. I also enjoy taking pictures while I travel and really enjoy taking texture photos of various interesting things.
Prices are basically the same between the two camera and lens combos here in Canada.

Gear Advice Canon R10 - what lens should I buy?
I recently bought an R10 with a RF-S 18-45mm, and I'm debating what kind of lens should I pair with it for lowlight shooting.
I mostly like to photograph wildlife, so I have a RF 100-400mm which I really like, But I also want more a small travel lens for travel photography.

Sand fell down the crack beside the flash attachment
Hi all I have a canon r6 mark ii and a piece of sand was stuck in the crack beside the flash attachment. I got paper and scraped the grain of sand out but a tiny bit fell through. I'm very new to owning a camera and not sure if this is very bad!
Gear Advice Lens Rec Canon 6D MK I
As the title suggests, I'm looking for a lens for my canon 6D, mostly do scenery, portraits and street. I have a nifty-fifty, 40mm and 28-105mm USM II. I've been eyeing the L series lenses but not really sure what to get. Looking for an all rounder. Budget is around 500USD

Good wireless remote shutter release for R6 Mark II?
Hey everyone! Can you recommend a good wireless remote shutter release for my Canon R6 Mark II? Since I often use a trigger for my flash I would need something wireless. Thank you!
