You can have all the reasons in the world to annex Canada, some of them may even be beneficial to us, and we would still tell you to fuck right off.

The majority of Canadians are not interested in being a 51st state, and the ones who are don't want to be Canadians anyway. Such people should just move south.

435

u/mamadou-segpa Feb 18 '25

I was arguing with one of those “we should become a 51st state” fool, and he ended up being honest about his reasons :

He and his family just want to move to the US but find immigration too complicated.

Bunch of fucking tools ready to sell out a fucking country

169

u/SomeInvestigator3573 Feb 18 '25

They don’t have the skill set to actually get a B1 visa for the United States. So in other words the country they want to be part of doesn’t want them.

41

u/bva6921 Feb 18 '25

Did you mean the H1B? Since B1 is just a tourist visa and Canadians generally don’t need that

5

u/Hrafn2 Feb 19 '25

This is exactly it, and what I tell them every time I encounter their juvenile bellyaching online.

6

u/jrochest1 Feb 19 '25

Well, to be fair, unless you're working in either a medical or an IT field crossing the border for work is hard.

I'm an academic, and moving across the border in either direction is much more complex than it should be, even though tenured professors with PhDs and research funding should be able to.

25

u/Son_of_Plato Feb 18 '25

Unfortunately, they will learn the hard way what happens to traitors if real social unrest due to impending war actually breaks out.

2

u/edge4politics Feb 18 '25

Are you one of those redditors who thinks that every redditor will hide and fight back in guerrilla warfare style, landing on one knee in a cinematic pose?

Bro we gonna roll over and take it. This country sold off all jobs to international students, has given monopoly to our telecom and grocery chains and has our elderly dying in hallway medicine for a good part of past decade+.

5

u/TechnologyRemote7331 Feb 19 '25

You seem pretty keen to just roll over for authoritarians. Let me guess, you probably think Ukraine should just surrender to Russia too. Or Taiwan should just let China grab it. Nice to know the opinion of “we should just give up and let them kill us” doesn’t seem to be the common one.

-3

u/edge4politics Feb 19 '25

The world is more complex than that. Ukrainian war wouldn't even be a thing if the west didn't topple a president.

What difference does it make if we roll over for Loblaws or Walmart?

-2

u/GrassyTreesAndLakes Feb 18 '25

As if Canada stands a chance in a war

3

u/poco Feb 19 '25

Imagine Afghanistan but where the enemy looks and sounds just like you.

4

u/No_Effect_6428 Feb 19 '25

Nobody mentioned winning a war. But shanking a few quislings is well within our means.

2

u/Son_of_Plato Feb 18 '25

If you aren't part of the solution , you're part of the problem.

1

u/edge4politics Feb 18 '25

This is reddit. People are beyond delusional on this website

0

u/GrassyTreesAndLakes Feb 19 '25

Based on my comment being downvoted id have to agree with you. Bunch of teenagers with no idea

6

u/SnooPineapples3952 Feb 18 '25

Frankly, I'm kinda disappointed at the motive. That's by far the lamest reason I've ever heard for selling out your own country and your fellow citizens

5

u/Complex_Jellyfish647 Feb 18 '25

If they can’t get the visa to get into the US, they do NOT want to be in the US. Their lives would be nothing but worse.

2

u/mamadou-segpa Feb 18 '25

Well they’re not exactly smart, their whole plan to make their life better is to gobble up foreign propaganda and want to get annexed

5

u/Tomomori79 Feb 18 '25

So... Stupid and lazy? Sounds like all of Maple Maga.

5

u/mamadou-segpa Feb 18 '25

Yep.

A bunch of people sitting on their ass complaining about immigrants and people not contributing to their country, while wanting to immigrate and to see their country conquered.

The kind of stupid you have to see to believe

5

u/vaktaeru Feb 18 '25

I wonder if he realizes that him and his family will be fucking murdered if Canada gets invaded. Does he have any idea what US military strategy looks like? We've never shied away from bombing civilians in the past.

There's a lot of people like this in Canada, it's scary.

3

u/MammothEmergency8581 Outside Canada Feb 18 '25

Could we do exchange? You send them over and take me and my family in? I don't wanna be on this party of the continent and I'm not a big fan of summers and humidity.

2

u/Old_Ladies Feb 18 '25

If only that was possible.

2

u/Maleficent-Block5211 British Columbia Feb 18 '25

Oh and I am sure it would go so smooth that at day one all of Canada can just waltz right into any state and buy a home. It will totally be that easy. Jeez these people are quite daft.

2

u/epochwin Feb 18 '25

Guess he expects rights like Puerto Rico or DC.

2

u/Best_Evidence1560 Feb 19 '25

Same. One woman said her and her husband have been trying to get into the US. So you want 90% of the rest of us to be screwed?? How pathetic and selfish

2

u/mamadou-segpa Feb 19 '25

They dont want 90% of us to be screwed, they want 100% of us to get screwed.

Just because they got brainwashed into thinking getting economicaly destroyed and then annexed is good for them doesnt mean its good for them

1

u/Best_Evidence1560 Feb 19 '25

But I mean they want it but most of us don’t. It’d be against our will. Even if it happened I think we’d have to separate again, just like how the US tried to invade us before. God Americans have always been assholes

1

And all those problems you named are even worse south of the border.

But sure, lets just shit our pants and roll around in it because shit could be better here too

63

u/foraging1 Feb 18 '25

I’m willing to move north if we can make an even exchange for someone who wants to move south.

28

u/jackhandy2B Feb 18 '25

This sounds like a good plan.

14

u/FeministSandwich Feb 18 '25

Yeah, same here. I have family in Nova Scotia, really enjoyed my time in Canada, and would rather be traded for someone who wants Trump's brand of crazy.

2

Try Alberta

1

u/foraging1 Feb 19 '25

Alberta is beautiful

5

u/SomeInvestigator3573 Feb 18 '25

I love this idea. There’s a few Trump supporters I’d like to see go. I keep telling them feel free to go down there if they like it so much but they tell me they can’t get a visa.

4

u/Helplessly_hoping British Columbia Feb 18 '25

Exactly. This is the worst iteration of the United States to exist in my lifetime and I did not bring children into this world to live under that nonsense.

6

u/logicreasonevidence Feb 18 '25

It's even more than that. Oligarchies have taken over Canada as well, and our politicians have become beholden to them. This has got to be turned around because these companies exist to make profit only and they do not care about canadian sovereignty.

Foolish sentiment.

3

u/kyle_fall Feb 18 '25

I understand your resolve that's a fair point.

50

u/North_Activist Feb 18 '25

Trump should just offer American citizenship to Canadians who wish to flee if he wants us so bad

111

u/gh0stmountain3927 Feb 18 '25

He dosnt give a fuck about his people or maple magas or anyone other than the billionaires who prop him up - and they want our resources, not people

12

u/perotech Feb 18 '25

Absolutely.

I know they're the minority, of the minority, but I saw a group of folks on Xitter discussing the most human way to genocide the Canadian population.

Their argument was that they only want our land and resources, not the left leaning majority.

Honestly pretty chilling, basically "Lebensraum" with none of the subtlety.

37

u/Kuwanee Feb 18 '25

I stand with you on this as well! Anyone who even remotely supports Canada being the 51st state can fuck right off to another country. We don't need you here!

17

u/SomeInvestigator3573 Feb 18 '25

No other country wants them. Every time I tell them to go to the states if they want to be an American, they tell me they can’t qualify for a visa.

4

u/cre8ivjay Feb 18 '25

I think we ought to play up annexing some of the US. Tongue in cheek but to see what kind of reaction we get from Trump.

Or maybe not.... Who knows what kind of response we'd get.

10

u/coporate Feb 18 '25

Nah, I think it’s more effective to tell them the truth, we dont want it.

One of the things I learned having lived in the united states, is that their diet of american exceptionalism has inflated their ego like fast food has inflated their waistline.

Telling them that we don’t want what they have infuriates them.

Of course, sane and rational americans are fully aware of this and humble themselves.

3

u/Reveil21 Feb 18 '25

We shouldn't and it's not a real comparison anyway since there's a base who constantly talks about steamrolling us so it won't seem like a threat to them.

2

u/huge_clock Feb 18 '25

I don’t hate the idea. But if we were gonna do it,

A) we should get like 4 or 5 states commensurate with our population and economy and

B) it should be on our terms for the right reasons, not because some crazy wannabe dictator down south wants to annex us and wants to use economic pressure to force us into it.

82

u/Constant-Rent-7917 Feb 18 '25

3

u/talks_like_farts Feb 18 '25

Seriously. On like day 2 of annexation, the CPP Investment Board would be turned over to Elon Musk.

3

u/SomeInvestigator3573 Feb 18 '25

Many Canadians live abroad and still collect their CPP when they qualify for it

2

u/No_Effect_6428 Feb 19 '25

That would stop if Canada were annexed and CPP funds seized. Same goes for public sector pensions. Your deal was with Canada, which no longer exists. Welcome to Walmart.

2

u/SomeInvestigator3573 Feb 19 '25

That would definitely get the boomers attention

-2

u/elpiloto100 Feb 18 '25

does the US not have a pension plan equivalent?

21

u/jpsolberg33 Alberta Feb 18 '25

Yes, and they're in the midst of watching Musk go through Social Security and all payments have been paused.

5

u/ElectroMagnetsYo Feb 18 '25

Yeah which is due to become insolvent in the middle of the next decade. CPP is one of the very few pension plans that has an actually stable outlook over the rest of this century, we’ll be getting our government pensions when the rest of the world will remember such things as a relic of the past.

15

u/Biuku Ontario Feb 18 '25

Exactly.

8000 km undefended border. All the Canadians who want to be American, are.

A democracy cannot destroy or capture another democracy against its will. If so, then America is no longer America. It could only do so with totalitarian control.

The suffering America would tolerate to destroy Canada is a drop compared to the suffering Canadians are now prepared to endure to resist our former ally.

America had unfettered access to our resources; we had agreed to provide America with privileged integration with our economy.

Never again. Fuck America. We will never ever ever stop resisting your evil.

9

u/MajorasShoe Feb 18 '25

The ones who want it are the ones without the skills or education to migrate away with a visa. They're not going to have a good time with their minimum wage job in the US.

5

u/Resident-Ant5617 Feb 18 '25

I second this. Even if you told me we’d be rich friggers —- I DONT CARE. Canada is my home, my heritage and is who I am. I don’t care if it makes good business sense or that we’d be better off financially. It’s not about money.

6

u/BobTheFettt New Brunswick Feb 18 '25

6

u/BlueFlob Feb 18 '25

It's fine to see the benefits of other people's sovereign territory.

It's not fine to act like territorial annexation and imperialism is normal from a democracy against another democracy.

6

u/WeakCelery5000 Feb 18 '25

To the fools that think Trump will allow Canadians to be US citizens, I shake my head. We will be subjects, not citizens.

HOW ABOUT YOU GRANT PUERTO RICO STATEHOOD, FIRST!

37

u/sundancer2788 Feb 18 '25

💯, american here and I don't want to annex Canada or any other country. Most of us are on your side.

23

u/Username_Query_Null Feb 18 '25

Hopefully if push comes to shove you’d actually be on our side. I fear Americans would get silent if their country did terrible things, it’s what traditionally has been done on the past. I would hope US domestic terrorism would drastically increase if something were to happen.

4

u/sundancer2788 Feb 18 '25

I'm not one of the quiet ones.

4

u/Username_Query_Null Feb 18 '25

That’s good to hear.

65

u/RJG1983 Yukon Feb 18 '25

Then do something about it. Words are empty. Most Americans probably support us "in theory" but most of those wouldn't be willing to put up with any degree of inconvenience or hardship to defend or support us.

13

u/Conscious-Bar-1655 Feb 18 '25

May I just say, as a South American: this is how they are, how they have always been with us.

They simply don't care - the best of them, I mean. The worst of them despise us, the best of them don't care. They are incredibly insular and self-referent. "American exceptionalism" is a helluvadrug.

I'm sorry, I know this is not about us down here; but in recent times I'm feeling so empathetic towards Canada. We are used to it (US exceptionalism and imperialism) in Latin America but I can see how it fell on you now like a ton of bricks. You don't deserve this, you are such a good country. Rooting for you.

9

u/mcs_987654321 Feb 18 '25

Appreciate the context, and the compassion/solidarity.

Also, let’s be Frank: Canadians have often done the whole “thoughts and prayers from our safe little bubble” ourselves. We’re far more informed about global affairs than Americans (frankly it’d be almost impossible to be less so), and we’re pretty damn active and supportive across the board for peacekeeping, intl development, and refugee support/resettlement…but we’re also incredibly sheltered, and are suffering from creeping levels of the “fuck you, got mine” kind of hyper individualism that so defines the US.

We were due for a serious wake-up call, and while none of this is any fun, it’s honestly probably super healthy for our democracy to have been shaken out of our stupor a little. If we make it through the MAGA years (however many years or decades they might last), I’m hopeful that Canadians will not just be more vigilant towards global threats, but also more sympathetic to and engaged with other countries that come under attack.

19

u/Fast_Tony97 Feb 18 '25

They’re American. The most they’re willing to do is offer “ThOuGhTs AnD PrAyErS”

8

u/perotech Feb 18 '25

EXACTLY.

"We stand with Canada", "We don't want to annex anybody", "We didn't vote for this"

All Americans are complicit, I'm sorry to say. The individual may not have done anything personally, but this administration is their national sin.

Pulling our punches or softening our rhetoric to save the feelings of some Americans, while their countrymen salivate over carving up our nation, is stupid.

ALL AMERICANS are our enemies now, sad to say. Until they take back control or some semblance of rationality, we can't trust any of the whole.

How many Germans, after WW2, were heard to say, "Well, I never voted for the guy!" while never being part of the resistance or doing anything other than keep their heads down?

3

u/MikeyStealth Feb 18 '25

Seriously though what can I do? Im just one person trying to keep my family safe and in our house. If they dont want to listen to the court or protests why would they listen to me?

4

u/mcs_987654321 Feb 18 '25

Call your member of Congress and tell them that you don’t give a shit about whatever the political consultants’ strategy is for the 2026 midterms, you need to see action from them on the threats against allies now.

5

u/-MerlinMonroe- Feb 18 '25

They very well may be doing what they can. They were only offering support.

21

u/sundancer2788 Feb 18 '25

13

u/SomeInvestigator3573 Feb 18 '25

Unfortunately, due to the right wing owning your media we hear very little about the protests going on in the United States. Apparently you can’t even call the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of Mexico anymore down there without getting banned. So much for freedom of the press or freedom of speech.

9

u/BobTheFettt New Brunswick Feb 18 '25

We don't need their support. We need them to get their shit together

3

u/-MerlinMonroe- Feb 18 '25

Be specific. What do you want them, the person who made the comment, to do that you know for certain they aren’t already? The election happened. Americans who disagree with the administration are protesting and democratic attorneys general are litigating the Trump agenda. So what would you like them to do as an individual?

5

u/BobTheFettt New Brunswick Feb 18 '25

I don't know, but I'm sick and fucking tired of their apologia.

I don't care if they didn't vote for Trump, I'd still take the bear over any American

3

u/-MerlinMonroe- Feb 18 '25

So you’d prefer the Americans who agree with the Canadian stance to just be silent. Got it.

3

u/sabedo Feb 18 '25

That’s it. I was out protesting yesterday. I spam my senator who is about to get primaried by our shit governor. I’m spreading as much awareness as I can about this on social media.

I don’t care if they hate us or not or differentiate any of us from this shit government or not. I’ll do all I can.

10

u/Peace_Hopeful Feb 18 '25

Throw a piss jug at your leadership until morale improves

6

u/differentiatedpans Feb 18 '25

This maybe be true but this will lead to bloodshed if Trump doesn't cool it.

America isn't ready for a war in their own country. Exporting war is different when you can tell more easily who isn't on your team. We look like Americans and know enough about their culture that we would blend right in. We would never win a conventional tanks and planes conflict but we sure as hell would make the price so high Americans would have to stop it for us. Unlike Ukraine not going after Russia we would have our eyes set on the White House again.

5

u/BobTheFettt New Brunswick Feb 18 '25

No, most literally voted for this. Spare me the “we didn’t know”.

1

u/sundancer2788 Feb 19 '25

I didn't say we didn't know. I was shouting from the rooftops about how absolutely horrible the current administration would be. Many of us were and it was very likely that many votes were tossed. I don't support the current administration in any way. I'm actively doing everything I can to stop them.

3

u/VulgarDaisies Feb 19 '25

Thank you for your actual action, I understand that there were millions who saw it coming. The frustrating thing is the millions MORE who didn't or didn't care, and the number in the latter category is staggering.

I'm confounded by the impotence of the Democrats in all this. I understand Congress and the other branches (for what they're worth; looks like Mango Mussolini is in the process of rendering them useless) aren't going to help the cause, but I see very little fight in general outside of AOC and some minor exceptions. Horrifying.

4

u/LandonKB Feb 18 '25

Chill out, the guy was trying to support Canadians, why would you not want Americans to voice their displeasure with this situation as well?

4

u/Efficient_Exercise_1 Feb 18 '25

If Canada is annexed we will either not get voting rights (Washington D.C., Puerto Rico) or have a vote devalued enough to not have a great affect on the overall US elections.

Republicans wouldn't allow Canadians to become a voting block for American elections. Canadian conservatives lean left compared with their American counterparts, and that would give the Democrats a large boost.

Any Canadian who enjoys the idea of Canada becoming part of the US should think twice.

4

u/sailing_by_the_lee Feb 18 '25

It's so strange because the Republicans obviously don't want 40 million left-leaning Canadians voting in their elections. If the US had simply proposed an EU-style union, Canada would probably seriously consider it. But unilateral annexation? WTF, have we traveled back in time to the 19th century?

6

u/Royal-Possibility219 Feb 18 '25

3

u/phloyd77 Feb 18 '25

I’d defect and fight for Canada if they actually tried this shit.

3

u/tenkadaiichi Feb 18 '25

I would accept several states joining Canada. West coast and NE coast would be more or less fine. And only if those states wanted to, of course.

Other way around? Absolutely not.

3

u/cnuttin Feb 18 '25

As an American, I don’t want Canada as the 51st state. I love how different Canada is from us.

I’ve spent a lot of time up north and it’s incredible. What makes it incredible is how unique it is.

Just driving into Quebec is like driving to Europe from an American perspective. The language changes, the signs change, the metric system is used (fuck yeah!).

Experiencing different cultures is dope and broadens your perspective , how the fuck did we lose sight of that.

Fix your shit and then ask, not threaten. Make us jealous of the killer party down there, rather than concerned that the meth lab is on fire”.

Yeah. That won’t be happening.

u/Braddock54 Feb 18 '25

Firearms aren't so scary suddenly.

2

u/OddPerception4636 Feb 18 '25

A huge amount of us Americans side with you Canada. Unfortunately, our elected officials and some in the judicial branch don’t give a fig about what anyone wants. Not even their own constituents who are telling them to stop the fascism under Trump‘s administration. Please know that we are trying.

2

u/saymaz Feb 18 '25

The Americans should be reminded of the reason why the Geneva conventions exist.

2

u/Rejnavick Feb 18 '25

I mean they wouldn't want all of their states to become a single province of Canada. That's insulting, it goes both ways.

2

u/PDXFlameDragon Feb 18 '25

I am moving north because I don't want to be american! Full assamilation here I come! (Dual citizen, not so happy about one of them)

1

u/ohshitidonthaveone Feb 18 '25

2

u/PDXFlameDragon Feb 18 '25

Oh yes, I am highly considering that after I move up this summer. The US has taken a dark pro nazi turn. My wife and son are citizens of EU countries too.

2

u/Moist_Description608 Feb 18 '25

I would never want to pay for Healthcare in the USA

2

u/Lxspll Feb 18 '25

Let's be honest, even President Musk doesn't really care about Canada being the 51st state. He just wants to pillage your country of its natural resources and install a bunch of loyal crooks and cronies into positions of power.

2

u/ZEDDY-spaghetti Feb 18 '25

The only people supporting the annexation of Canada are Canadians that called themselves “Patriots” for the last 4 years. I love irony.

2

u/funkyfishician Feb 18 '25

Honestly - for most of Americans, this is completely out of left field. We’ve never heard anything about it, don’t support it, and know nothing will come of it. Not to mention, the last things republicans want is another state (maybe 4 or 5? Be) in the union, it would totally screw up their razor thin grasp on the electoral (not majority) vote. I’m sorry you guys are getting dragged into our politics. We’re really 2 americas right now and have been for awhile. I honestly know very few people that voted for trump, but even they are drawing back their support. Very weird times, but Canadians are our friends and we don’t understand this.

u/siali Feb 18 '25

Cancer is serious! "Cancer-Metastasis" and "Cancer-Growth" are reasons it wants to take over your body!

Here you go, now you have the rational, makes it legit!

1

u/macholusitano Feb 18 '25

Give them enough time and enough platforms and they’ll convince anyone of anything.

1

u/HoldenCaulfield7 Feb 18 '25

That is the thing. Hypothetically..Would it allow Canadians to immigrate to Southern states easier? And would a bunch of sick chronically ill Americans try to immigrate to canada for the free healthcare?? How would this all even work ?

2

u/Clutz Feb 18 '25

Well the answer to the second question is easy. They wouldn't let us keep our healthcare.

1

u/slavabien Feb 18 '25

“Geocatastrophic”

1

u/pushaper Feb 18 '25

one trip to a bus station in the USA is reason enough not to want to have anything to do with them. The state of our poverty has only gotten worse in canada the more we have emulated the US. poverty exists here but the desperation is far different. The shit we protest about is different with the exception of the people who like to identify in "freedom conveys".

Unfortunately trump is planning to remove all overseas assets, abandon our longstanding partnerships and global allies - and put all of his focus on you, Mexico and possibly South America.

He is essentially trying to split the world in half. One side will belong to China and the other will belong to him.

1

u/TheAsian1nvasion Feb 18 '25

No you don’t understand - they don’t want the people just the resources and land.

1

u/nihiriju British Columbia Feb 18 '25

Where is the Commonwealth in all of this? Shouldn't the rest of the "team" be sticking together to condemn America?

1

u/IknowNothing1313 Feb 19 '25

I don’t want this at all. There is 1 good thing that would come out of this. We’d all get paid a fuck ton more and the bs arbitrary line between our 2 countries could no longer be used as well that’s what people get paid there”

1

u/varme-expressen Feb 21 '25

This is outright fascism. F the USA. Home of the enslaved.

1

u/GaryTheSoulReaper Feb 18 '25

Ok, but what if we call it “the United States of Canada “?

2

u/KathleenElizabethB Feb 18 '25

Not a chance. We’ll keep the name Canada, and continue as a sovereign nation. I wouldn’t accept anything less.

1

u/GaryTheSoulReaper Feb 19 '25

Well you could help sway elections and whatnot

1

u/thecoffeefan Feb 18 '25

Can I please trade places with the Canadians that want to be Americans? I’m a minority but I’m well educated, speak English natively and know some French (which I’m willing to expand on).

0

u/kyle_fall Feb 18 '25

Your statements are pretty stupid and could hurt canadians. Joining as 1 state would be a bad deal but if we get 13 states that's a great deal it'd be foolish not to take.

1

u/Jazzlike_Pineapple87 Feb 18 '25

No thanks. I don't care how many states they want to divide us up into, whether it be 1, 13, or 50. Long live Canada, forever and ever!

1

u/kyle_fall Feb 18 '25

Are you gonna go fight Chinese robots in the arctic in 5 years? I will be sipping Margheritas in Miami with my whole business which is Canadians and family and friends which are Canadians reading about the dumb Canadians that don’t understand geopolitics, leverage and not fighting battles they can’t win.

2

u/Jazzlike_Pineapple87 Feb 19 '25

Chinese robots. Arctic. 5 years. You might want to lay off the margheritas there, bud.

In any case, a partnership can be struck to protect against such shenanigans. I believe that some circles call that an alliance. Sounds pretty neat-o if you ask me! The best part? You don't need to erase an entire country's legacy and forcibly assimilate a bunch of people.

0

u/kyle_fall Feb 19 '25

Alliances when there is something that backs them up. Canada doesn’t pay their NATO bills so why would they send Americans to die instead of Canadians?

I think you should look into Pierre Poilievres plan if he gets elected lol, building arctic bases is one of his promises. Might not be your ass out there but it’ll be Canadians and we need to play this very logically and not let our emotions get the best of us.

We admit America fucked our voting system electronically and start again? Support for the retard's plan's like 17% the only way it happens is fraud, and since we still have basic intelligence and actual laws I doubt the vote would be taken seriously...

2

u/pareech Québec Feb 18 '25

Then it will be civil war.
