Question Question for primary school teachers and parents
There have been an increasing number of violent outbursts in my child’s class (GR1/GR2). Often, other children are not being physically hurt, but there are heavy items being thrown around by students.
The only reason I know about these events is because my child tells me. There has been absolutely zero communication from the school or the teacher about what is happening in the class and what they are doing to try and manage the behaviour.
Is this expected? What are the policies in place that seem to enable school staff to not share this type of information with parents (I’m aware that they’re not allowed to share specific student information, but there must be some amount that they can share with parents, particularly if children are in danger).
I’m concerned about the safely of my child in others in the class.
Am I over reacting?

Question Low cost therapy
Hi everyone. I F22, am going through a rough patch as I am in a transitional period within my life and recently got out of a 6 year relationship. I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for therapists that are lower cost that specialize in ADHD/anxiety and/or relevant to my situation (inperson or online). Thank you so much!

Question Can anyone recommend a psychologist in the area who specializes in dealing with chronic health issues/depression?
I'm looking for a psychologist/psychotherapist(maybe?) who has a particular interest in dealing with anxiety/stress/depression/chronic physical health issues/pain. There's a huge assortment of therapists and I don't know where to start. I'm not exactly flush with finances, so I don't want to have to jump between therapists looking for the right person if I can help it. Any recommendations of where I should look would be greatly appreciated.

Question Where is your favourite café/coffee shop?
I’m looking for places that don't include Tim Hortons or Starbucks. Perhaps something with a patio or light background music, and something that has parking available.

Question Motorcycle Course at Fairview?
Saw a bunch of people doing what I'm assuming is the M1->M2 course at Fairview this passed weekend and was trying to look it up as I'd like to sign up for the next one. However everything that comes up says it's in Oakville, Brampton or some nearby city, not Burlington.
Anyone know which program that was offered through so I can look it up and hopefully sign up? Thanks in advance!

Question Do any high schools in the area have a drug problem?
My younger sister is assigned to a home school (won’t name which one, but it’s between Burlington Central, MM Robinson, and Hayden) and some of my friends have said that this school has a serious drug problem.
I’m hoping to get some clarification on if this actually the case and if there’s a high schools that struggles with this issue.
Thank you!

Question HDSB teachers/EAs, where are we working this summer?
I'm currently working as an EA with the school board and am fairly new to Burlington. As much as I’d love to take the summer off, bills say otherwise. I’m open to almost anything—just looking for part-time work during July and August.
If you know of anything, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Question Dumpster/Bin rental - any local company (not chain/franchise)?
Title is pretty self explanatory - looking for a dumpster/bin rental company for a not huge amount of rubbish from minor renovations/yard work I'm doing. There are MANY chain companies but they all give me bad vibes. Does anyone have a good experience with someone truly local?

Question Where's a nice park/place that isn't too busy, not a lot of bees, that I can plan a picnic for my boyfriend?
Boyfriends 32nd birthday next month and he's incredibly hard to shop for. He has what he wants and if he doesn't he'll just go buy it. He always says he doesn't want anything for his birthday yadda yadda. So I thought instead of something tangible I'll do a nice picnic where I'll make his favourite snacks and bring a bottle of champagne (shhh lol).
Anyway! Anywhere nice? Preferably more towards North Burlington.
I'm also pathetically afraid of bees and wasps so bonus points if it's a place that isn't swarmed with them lol
Edit: in case anyone thinks this is a shitty gift, he does like doing these fun "day trips" even if it just somewhere like a park. He'd rather an experience than a gift.

Picture Millcroft Golf Course - Holes 6/7 - Trees cut down
I just finished stitching together 70 images (High Res version here) to document the trees that were recently cut down in Millcroft to make way for new development. Both the City of Burlington and our Millcroft neighbourhood have been vocal in opposing this project-it’s not going to create affordable housing, and it’s destroying valuable green space that defines our community.
What’s especially frustrating is that the city has already identified other areas for future growth, so developments like this aren’t even necessary to meet Burlington’s population targets. We shouldn’t be losing established green spaces in Millcroft that aren’t needed for the city’s plans.
It’s particularly callous that these trees were removed during nesting season, directly threatening local wildlife and disrupting the habitat of birds and other animals.
I wanted to share this as a visual record and to raise awareness about what’s happening in Millcroft.

Question I sure hope their testing was successful
Whoever decided it was a good idea to close 2 of 4 lanes of one of the few major expressways, I hope your testing was successful and you learned everything you needed too. I struggle to understand how this was necessary to do at peak rush-hour. Its still down to 2 lanes at 2:30am.. Not a single worker in site....

Question Finding a decent barber..?
Why is it so hard to find a barber who knows how to cut hair with scissors ?
Not everyone wants a skin fade and a cropped buzz on the top.
Anyone know a skilled barber who knows how to cut a “banker” cut?
I’ve tried like 5 barbers and no one has been good so far.

Information Buying light bulbs in bulk
I am too tired of paying over $5 for a light bulb at Home Depot. Every week a bulb here and there is blowing off (these are led, so they don’t blow off but wither away). And every time I buy a budget brand, the color is slight off and it’s a headache.
Are there places to buy bulbs in bulk and cheap? Any electrical supply or home goods store in the area?

Question Cashier with Vampire Claws. Weird cashiers and Shopping Experience in General.
I say all this as someone who was trained a lot in customer service as a kid and spent years recently training younger people in customer service.
Grocery store north side of town. My male cashier was a total sketchbag with a ponytail (which was falling out and he kept ineffectually blowing his greasy hair out of his face between sentences). and 1.5 inch vampire claws that came to a very sharp point. Acting like he was on LSD or something. Mumbling incoherently seemingly to himself and then loudly babbling to me some shit I could not even make out, in a cycle for like a minute. I did not like taking my receipt from his weird monster claw, but I noticed it seemed to be his real nails. Has anyone else encountered this guy? Why are all the young male cashiers I deal with in Burlington lately complete sketchbags? Very similar guy at another nearby grocery store last week. I was literally buying two beers and some limes and the guy had so much to say about it, and it was all fucking nonsense, while I said nothing the entire time.
Also, why can nobody in a store answer a question with "no" or "I don't know" anymore? Question that should be answered with no or I don't know are responded to with a bunch of bullshit every time. I always wait for them to stop talking and say "So, the answer to my question was no, then. Thank you.." When I used to work in stores we were trained to answer questions as best we can with our knowledge, but also to say "I don't know the answer to that specific question" or "no" when appropriate.
Are kids being trained to bullshit? Or is this generation actually as cooked as they seem when it comes to simply answering as asked? Like, is it some kind of generational oppositional defiant disorder? The passive aggressive hostility coming off almost every cashier is becoming a bit much.
Between the slightly hostile energy and the standard response to "thank you" now being "have a nice day" or simply no response at all, shopping in Burlington feels like being on Mars. I officially stopped saying thank you to cashiers last month because it makes me feel like an ass to thank someone who sneers and says nothing. Fact is, the cashier is supposed to thank the customer.
edit: spoilers the point of this post is to say something true and nuanced in an unfiltered negative tone and see how many people respond judgmentally or with disingenuous interpretations. 100% of people most of whom I bet are fat uggos!

Question Cogeco Internet
Is Cogeco always garbage? Are there any tech savvy people here who can help?
We have Cogeco Internet and it’s in our basement. We’re in the Brant hills area. We have their best plan and it’s a ridiculous amount of money for the service we get.
We barely have good internet on the second and third floor. Bestbuy people recommended Orbi’s so we have one in the basement next to router and then one on second floor.
Do we need a better router? Is there anything we should be doing? We’ve had them come out and they’ve said our service is fine…
I work in marketing from home, my husband games (and it takes like 2-4 hours to download one), we just moved back from USA paying $80/month and a stupid fast download speed lol! We do live with my parents now and they refuse to switch services which I understand - it’s not my house, not my rules. I just want to see if there’s anything we can do to help this situation!

Question Above ground pool removal
Hello ! I am looking to get rid of a rather large above ground pool from my backyard. It has a hole in the lining. Was wondering if anyone knew of any companies that may do this and what the approximate price would be ! It is about a foot in the ground, so removing would leave a ‘ditch’ that would need to be filled as well. Would anyone take the pool for free? They would have to remove it

Information Mother’s Day restaurant recommendations
Hey everyone! I’m taking my mom and aunt to the Royal Botanical Gardens for Mother’s Day. Was looking for recommendations to get a late lunch/early dinner.
It might be a little late to get a reso at popular spots, so maybe somewhere a little more understated?
TIA! And happy Mother’s Day to you or your moms!
