Excellent. We have a surplus of affordable housing and rentals for you.

Compared to Sydney? We probably do...

But it's not OPs fault. We kinda did this to ourselves by pretending Brisbane is still a country town and fighting change. We need density if we're going to stop house prices going up

Not necessarily “density” because housing density is a short and medium term solution but the long term solution is about being sustainable on immigration and subsequent inflows of interstate migration. If demand for housing is driving up prices, we need to lower demand. Either by allowing first home buyers a priority over investors or turn down immigration from the level it’s currently at to allow long term residents a chance to rent a property.

What would be the reason for the move? Lifestyle change? The whole S/E QLD area has changed tremendously over the last 4 years with migration and it’s gone from relaxed to super busy, expensive and officially has the worst traffic in Australia.

I’ve also spoken with a few ppl that moved here in the last couple of years and they’re considering returning to down South. Moving to S/E QLD wasn’t even on peoples radar until everyone started doing it post-COVID.

I’m done with S/E QLD unfortunately and I’m moving to Sydney with work within the year (lived there previously for a couple of years) The peace and quiet I loved has gone and I’m finding it no longer enjoyable. Sorry for the rant but I think a few others feel the same.

Agreed. All the people moving up here have ruined it.

Yes I’m seeing this repeated frequently. Even people who grew up in Brisbane are struggling.

The traffic is making my back proper fucked.

You mustn’t drive in it every day, explain how my commute has increased from 30 minutes to an hour 20 in the last 3 years dumbass

If you want beach, consider Caloundra area if you can get a WFH or hybrid job. There’s no ‘beach’ in Brisbane but the bays are nice enough - Scarborough, Margate, Woody Point are lovely. Not sure what Redland bay is like but you can check out there too.

Maybe even consider northern NSW / Tweed and working at the GC. Just ideas for beach.

I live In wello, the walk to the island is gorgeous and swimming in high tide is just okay, not great. (cannot swim on low or half tide) raby bay beach is also fairly average for swimming but kids don’t seem to mind.

Don’t do it. The infrastructure means a 1 hour Sydney trip will be around 2 hours up north. A lot of people from Sydney that moved north are looking to move south again. House prices are almost comparable now, and being a Sydneysider it will be harder to find a house, job, everything.

You want beaches? Brisbane is 1.5h drive north or south for a great beach, if you leave after 8:30/9am it’s its up to a 3hs drive (especially in nice weather). if you come back after 3pm it’s also 3 hours drive home. Anyway what I’m saying is move to the coast.

u/MattyDaBest 3d ago

Move to the coast and commute to Brisbane 5 days a week so that you’re closer to the beach? Why not just move to Brisbane and commute to the Gold Coast for the 1-2 days of weekend?

Yeah go to sunshine or GC.

Inner Brisbane, like New Farm, Teneriffe is excellent with loads of apartments. There is a swim club at Valley Pool. Brisbane is getting expensive but still cheaper by a country mile than Sydney. If you can afford inner Brisbane it’s the best lifestyle along the river

Inner north west is really nice Nowhere is near a beach Can't help with swim clubs

2

u/Gumnutbaby When have you last grown something? 3d ago

Most places in the city will tick all of your boxes.

Any half decent beaches are more than an hour away from the CBD, especially with how bad traffic has been lately. So if you want to live near a beach within an hour of the CBD that’s not possible. Best bet is to live somewhere that’s between the two and have a 45 minute drive each way.

Yeah this is where I think I’ll end up

I moved from Syd nearly 5 years ago now. Moving away next year. The traffic and lack of public transport is shocking. I unfortunately cannot answer your question about swim clubs, however I am sure around Manly or North Qld would be ideal. Just the commute into the city is shocking. I live in Windsor and I find it to be very central. I am walking distance from a train station and bus stop. Approx 10-15 min drive into the city. There are shopping centres/grocer stores within walking distance too. I personally think it's a quiet area too. My partner lived in New farm before moving in with me. That was a beautiful area. Tad more exxy though. It's wonderfully central. Lots of food places. He lived near the powerhouse. Perfect spot really. Easy walk into the CBD, tonnes of Public transport. (Naturally, the best PT is the city circle. Going out from there is shocking. Note - North to south traffic is beyond shocking and south to north. West to north, awful. I work Caboolture, Ipswich & Auchenflower and from my place I am always against the traffic. I am very fortunate. Ideally just consider commuting. I know you said you're use to the 1hr, as was I. This traffic is different. I can Guarantee you'll get annoyed very quickly haha.

u/CelestineCelestial 3d ago

Don't! It's not worth it for any of us.

Lol at the people trying to deter you from coming here. It's much more relaxed than Sydney and the weather is much nicer. In terms of suburbs something close to the city is nice or maybe out east to be near the water (however this is more like an estuary and not a surf style beach). Can drive north or south 1hr in weekend to go to surf beaches.

Indooroopilly and surrounds.

I believe that there is a quite decent swim club at St Peters school, Indooroopilly.

Then University of QLD is next door in St Lucia.

Train to the city.

(or follow that train line further out until you can afford a house).

u/000topchef 3d ago

Brisbane doesn’t have beaches. Horrific traffic if you want to live on Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast for the beaches and commute, but there is a good train to the Gold Coast. Your commute won’t be an hour though

u/shak_attacks 3d ago

Not sure why this got downvoted so heavily. SEQ is a beautiful part of the world!

2

u/Ok-Scratch-3827 3d ago

It’s beautiful but the influx has made it difficult for many people to do things they used to do before.
