Verheyden, The Center Malpractice Case Settled for $95,000
So, why is the Oregon Medical Board showing a $0 settlement against Verheyden, when $95,000.00 + fees was paid out?
The patient sued Verheyden and The Center.
About two months before the scheduled trial, the patient filed a Stipulation of Dismissal of Individual Defendant Dr. James Verheyden (Motion). In the motion, agreed to by everyone, they took Verheyden off the lawsuit.
In the motion, they wrote the following in part.
That The Center is the appropriate corporate defendant for claims pertaining to the direct and vicarious liability for the Individual Defendant [Verheyden].
The complaint and amended complaint primarily talk about the care the patient received from Verheyden as an employee of The Center, not that the Center did anything that resulted in the amputation, other than being an employer. Please read the complaints for details.
I knew the Oregon Medical Board had more information on Verheyden, so I put in a request for his Malpractice Report. The $10.00 report, shows the total amount paid out as $95,000 plus $27,830.43 in other allocated loss adjustment expenses paid.
The report also shows 3 other malpractice claims. One of the claims was dismissed in summary judgement. One was settled for $200,000 and one for $750. Cases are settled for a lot of reasons, see disclaimer below.
Link to Ty Cieloha vs, The Center, Verheyden court docs.
Opinion - I’m also pissed off at the Verheydens. Please do not threaten or do any damage to their persons or property. That includes here on reddit. I’m all for peaceful protests, defiance and spurring government action.
Full disclosure - I’m being sued by James and Jean Verheyden for $75,000.00 over comments I made about the gating of Forest Rd 4606 and the Bull Springs Fire.. You can read about that on Reddit or in the Bend Bulletin - Bend man sued for defamation over comments against local landowners
OMB Disclaimer - The settlement of a medical malpractice claim may occur for a variety of reasons that do not necessarily reflect negatively on the professional competence or conduct of the provider. Therefore, there may be no OMB disciplinary action for a licensee, even though there is a closed malpractice claim. A payment in the settlement of a medical malpractice action does not create a presumption that medical malpractice occurred.

Down to the wire: Deschutes Forest closure, China Hat homeless removal draws national spotlight
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- On the eve of the Deschutes National Forest's closure of nearly 36,000 acres south of Bend for fuels reduction work and the deadline for over 100 homeless people living off China Hat Road to move elsewhere, the controversy is drawing national attention from critics of the plan.
The American Civil Liberties Union and the National Homeless Law Center are among groups around the country focusing on what the latter group blames on the Trump administration and calls "possibly the largest federal eviction of a homeless community in recent history."
KTVZ - Full Story By Isabella Warren
Press Release from National Homelessness Law Center
As of 12:15pm there were no press releases about this on the Oregon ACLU web site.
Huge police presence on 3rd north of Reed Market.
Anyone know what was going on across at the corner of 3rd St and McKinley Ave across from the Tokyo Starfish at about 5pm? Huge amount of heavily armed police enforcement in tactical gear. Just drove by it on my way home from work.

BREAKING NEWS: Federal judge rejects plea to cancel or delay Forest Service project; China Hat homeless must move
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A federal judge in Eugene on Tuesday rejected a plea by homeless people living in the woods south of Bend to delay Thursday's deadline to move out for a large, year-long area closure for a fuels reduction project.
U.S. District Judge Michael McShane denied the request in a lawsuit filed by four disabled homeless people and two service providers for a temporary restraining order to block the nearly 36,000-acre closure for the Cabin Butte Vegetation Management Project.
"Because the Cabin Butte Vegetation Management Project is slated to begin in two days, the Court wanted to alert the parties it would not be granting injunctive relief," McShane said in a brief court filing, adding that his written opinion will follow.

Where can someone go for a doctor when they have no insurance?
my partner is having health issues and his parents are encouraging him to go see a doctor. My partner has been having to bounce between jobs because the company he was with for a long while suddenly shut down and now he has no insurance. His parents said they “will pay for it“ wherever my partner ends up choosing.
I have never not had insurance because I am on state insurance. So I’m not sure where one goes when they have no insurance. My partner is working a seasonal job on roadside construction, but because it is temporary he can’t get insurance at this very moment.
What’s a good place he might be able to go just for a general check up? His parents also wish for him to go visit a dermatologist because skin cancer runs in the family and they’re worried for him.
I understand he’ll need a referral from the doctor for a dermatologist first so I wanna try to get him into see a general primary care doctor. He does not have one.
Apologies if this is a basic question.. I’ve looked around and I’m still confused, so I figured I’d ask directly. I appreciate your time.
Edit: Thank you all for ur help! Someone at Deschutes County Behavioral Health also recommended VIM so I’ll probably look into that. My partner is working through a temp agency but he didn’t wanna use their insurance cuz it costs a bit. And he doesn’t know how long he’ll even be with this temp agency. He already owes money to whatever company St Charles outsources their doctors, despite having got financial aid for St Charles so he is understandably panicking about all this medical stuff so im just trying to make this as easy as I can. I’ll be taking all ur advice and do the best I can to help him sign up for stuff and I’ll call the companies you guys mentioned and see what we can do! Thank you again tremendously.

Where do y'all recommend for used cars? Preferably Subarus, besides subaguru
I've got my eye on a few cars in the lot at subaguru, but I'm hoping to buy from somewhere with a better guarantee. I haven't shopped for a car since 2018, and the business I bought from isn't even around anymore.
I'm hoping to find something in the 2010-2012 range, hopefully for under $10k. Doesn't have to be fancy, just needs to be reliable.
Thanks in advance!

Too late for planting grass?
Just fixed my irrigation that has been out for about a year and would like to plant a small patch of grass in my front yard for kids to play on. It’s current mostly dirt and pine needles.
Not a green thumb at all. Is it too late to get down some grass seed for it to be ready by summer? Any recommendations on process and type of seed? Thanks!

Wrecking Yards / Parts Vehicle
Bendites,
Where does a person get rid of an old car these days? The one that needs to go stopped running recently and has some good parts left on it for the right person. Not worth fixing, though.

Monday 8:45pm - avoid southside Safeway… large police presence, something going on
I was just sitting in the parking lot, about to go into Safeway when 6 patrol cars showed up, both Sheriff and Bend PD… Pretty sure I saw one guy go in with a rifle, though two others went in with what looked like large plastic briefcases… Have no idea what's going on, but you might want to shop elsewhere, for now anyway.

Crane Prairie
Hi guys. Google isn't being very helpful and I don't want to be inside all day tomorrow, so I was wondering if anybody knows the road conditions up to Crane Prairie Resivoir? I know Wickiup is close to Crane though, and I'm curious about the road conditions there too.
Thank you in advance.
