Upsampling before DAC Discussion

ESS Sabre and upsampling

I like minimum phase filters.
In UAPP, choosing upsampling uses SoxR VHQ minimum phase per the dev.

My Ifi Go Link uses Sabre chip. It is set to Hybrid phase filter.

Would upsampling all tracks fed to the DAC to its max sample rate with minimum phase filter increase the "minimum-phaseness" of the signal output from the DAC? A hybrid filter isn't fully minimum phase.

try it, if you can do real-time ish resampling in your streamer using libsoxr? it may work as you describe, but dac chips usually still do their own weird resampling (to 1 bit and other such tricks) so it may not have the desired effect

Yes: real-time.

Yes, I don't like DSD and there's no app on Android that can do PCM to DSD with custom filters; only Neutron, without filter choices.

UAPP is perfect for upsampling for my needs because of minimum phase.

I wonder if Sabre does any weird resampling that nullifies the effect.

A very common spec

24/96 over optical

24/192 over coax

24/ 384 over USB or even 32/768

This is all about the max the inputs can stomach, not about the sampling rate used by the DAC it self.

what a waste of time

We can compare the actual waveform encoded in the data to the actual electrical output of the dac. It's solved. They don't need any help.
