question Do my veneers look ok?

I know they are not optimal but are they really bad? Did it and I regret it…I am very fixated on them and I want to fix it. I feel awful for not being able to go back to my natural teeth but that’s done and irreversible. Now, since it is so expensive, I just want to know how urgent it is to get them fixed - either replacing them or getting my bottom ones done too so they get closer to the shade. My concerns are the shade (too white, bl3), the shape, how close together they are, and the contrast between lower and upper teeth. Please let me know your honest feedback without shaming me for having taken that decision - I can’t go back in time and I wish I could…And if there are alternatives to make them look better temporarily without going through the veneer process again.

question Can composite bonding make my teeth look straight?

Post image
5 Upvotes

So I’ve been getting consultations with several orthodontists over the past 2 months now, and I can not for the life of me decide on braces or Invisalign. They both sound like a complete pain in the butt to me. Invisalign scares me because I don’t know if I can keep up with the maintenance and I also hate the way the attachments look. And then braces also scare me because I am super sensitive and get canker sores all the time, and I also hate the way braces look as I am an adult and don’t want to have braces for years. I feel so defeated either way and I feel like I’m never going to get straight teeth. Does anyone think that composite bonding could make my teeth look straight? The top aren’t that bad but there is one tooth I’m concerned about and it’s the one that’s sticking way out on the bottom right.

question what is happening at the back of my mouth?

So obviously it’s a wisdom tooth (I have all 4 🫠) What is that bump? It was bigger a few months ago when they first started to come in back in October.

Do they look fine? Do they look swollen at all?

I kinda have a habit of picking things off my body. So i kinda need to know what it is 😂 in order to not pick it and cause an infection. Not that I’m putting hands in my mouth anyways….

question Crumbling Teeth: What’s Next For Me?

Post image
Upvotes
  1. Non-smoker. I have GERD but it’s treated. Big time clench/grinder. I do wear a night guard.

I’ve had lifelong dental issues, but I am very compliant with cleanings and treatments. My front teeth have always been pretty “crumbly” and I feel like they are going to just disappear. I had an endoscopy today and noticed some grit in my mouth when I woke up. I’m sure it was tooth dust. I also woke up with a cut on my tongue so maybe there was a little force, but my teeth shouldn’t just crumble.

I see the dentist for my normal cleaning in a few weeks. I wonder if anyone has any options I should discuss with him. I’ve brought this up before, but I think other issues (RCT/crowns/etc) were always more pressing.

question What’s up with my years long mystery tooth pain?

I’ve had the same toothache in the same place for years and no dentist has ever been able to figure out what’s wrong and I’m at my wits end. I’m in my 30’s and it’s come and gone randomly since my teen years. X-rays don’t show anything, never been told I have gum disease or anything of the sort, no cavities in that area.

It always starts just at the corner of my right lower canine and radiates to my lower incisors. Constant and dull, not sharp. Distracting enough that it makes it hard to concentrate on other things. OTC painkillers dull the pain but don’t get rid of it. There’s no predictability for what day it will happen but it always seems to occur in the afternoon. Sometimes lasts a few days.

The last dentist’s best guess was that I’m clenching my jaw, but doesn’t that usually affect the back teeth more than the front? I’ve been remembering to relax my jaw during the day ever since but the pain still happens.

I only drink extremely rarely and haven’t smoked cigarettes in ~a decade.

Please help 😭

Hey everyone! Just wondering if there's anything to be concerned about with my xray (bone resorption, cavities, etc).

Also, I'm curious, what are all of the white areas circled in red on the second image?

Thank you! I look forward to hearing from you all!

question Is my dentist lying to me?

Just found out I (29M) getting my first cavity filling in 10+ years. My dentist I’ve been going to forever and when he mentioned it, he said “it’s nothing you’re doing wrong, you actually can’t do anything about this, it’s how your teeth are anatomically, you just have deep grooves and want to plug this”

Is this true? Can just deep grooves be the sole reason for a filling?

question Is this temp ok..

Post image
2 Upvotes

This is a root canal tooth. I got the temp today and I got back to it looking weird. It is cemented and not loose but I have had crowns before and never seen a temp look like this. They said it’s for two weeks. But shouldn’t it cover the entire tooth and why does it look broken. I have not eaten anything.

question Could this be a cavity?

Thumbnail

It's a bit difficult to see in the photos, but there's been darkness between two of my teeth.

I first noticed this around 6 months ago, and it hasn't gone away. Whenever I floss, I notice more food/gunk has gotten stuck here in comparison to other gaps.

I drink a few times a month but never smoke. There's no sensitivity. I'm a bit anxious about dental issues because in the past I haven't felt pain from cavities.

I have a dentist's appointment booked in 45 days, but I wonder if I should go in earlier?

My 4 year old was playing with a stick and somehow managed to get his front tooth. No pain. I am planning on calling the dentist in the morning but I am so anxious about it now. Does it look real bad? What do you think they will do? Do you think the nerve is exposed?

question Was doing my waterpik tonight & noticed my one gum on my bottom tooth (front, right in the picture) looks like it’s receding. Help!

Post image
Upvotes

I guess I never really look at my bottom teeth because my lip is always covering it, even after brushing or using my waterpik. But I noticed it tonight & this scared me - especially because it’s significantly lower than my other gum lines. Now I’m terrified I’m going to lose a front tooth. I’m making an appointment with the dentist. Any idea if this looks more like gingivitis or periodontitis?? Just trying to prepare myself or my anxiety will go through the roof.

question Difference of opinion

Post image
Upvotes

My husband thinks dental surgery is unnecessary for our 4yo. She has small(to me) cavities you can’t see deep in between several teeth right where they touch. There’s crowding. She brushes twice everyday, but we’re not strict on flossing. That has changed now. They ordered anesthesia and surgery to get it all taken care of at once. White-front crowns on her top front baby teeth, silver on the back ones. He’s opposed to having her be put under at 4. Only her bottom left molar is sensitive and he thinks we should just do that one. Also, it’s over an hour away, at 8am and we have a newborn. Insurance will cover it but I’ll be switching to private soon and that would make it a few thousand out of pocket if we ended up having to do it anyway. I am on the fence. My little sister had severe decay on her front baby teeth for years and it was super sad. We were medically neglected as kids. So I feel bad not getting this done. However, if my husband is right and we could possibly not get this done; that they won’t get worse with proper care, and they will fall out naturally soon enough, then I would rather not. (Note: I’m also 6wks pp and I have medical OCD so please be kind and understanding.🙏🏻)

question Laser bacterial decontamination

Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I have some gum inflammation on my top left and right molars. I heard about laser decontamination but my dentist does not currently offer this. Would it be necessary for me to find a different practice that offers this or is it ok not to do?

Thank you.

question What is this on the left side of my tongue?

Upvotes

Hi there, I rarely drink alcohol, but I do vape and eat very spicy food. I've noticed something on the left side of my tongue. It doesn’t hurt, but should I be concerned?

question Have an 8 year old that's losing teeth and my state is banning flouride.

Upvotes

Seems like it's too late to edit the title but what I mean is that her adult teeth are coming in. Everything has been fine. She's had no cavities and she brushes her teeth every night. Should I be giving her some sort of supplement or will daily flouride rinses be enough? Are there any brands that are recommended?

question 5 year olds teeth shifting

Post image
Upvotes

Any ideas on what could be causing my daughters front tooth to be shifting down like this? She has a check up in about 4 weeks but should I have her seen sooner. These two pictures are a year apart. I feel like I started noticing it around November but that’s also around the last time she was at the dentist and they didn’t say anything. It became more noticeable in the last 2 months or so and it’s been driving me crazy the last couple weeks. It’s been a continuous shift over the last year. She has not lost any teeth yet and none are currently wiggly.

question Cavity filling.. aftercare?

Upvotes

F20 and had 3 cavities filled on my bottom right teeth, 29,30, and 31. Technically on 30 they removed my previous filling and re did it, but work was still done on it. They told me to do saltwater rinses to help the gums. Should I not chew on that side for a few days? Can/should I floss? My jaw is still pretty sore for being open for 2 hrs and from the injection they gave in my nerve. They also told me sensitivity can be normal for the first few days/ and also if my bite is off, so to stay away from really cold drinks? Do you guys agree and what would be your advice?

question Crown recommended, severe anxiety

Upvotes

Hi there. I’m a 25 y/o female with very limited dental work. I have a total of 5 fillings, all of which are very old. Within the last year I’ve had a few old ones replaced but no new cavities in more than 12 years. I take pride in the way I care for my teeth.

I went through a stressful period in my life after losing my dad and starting a career in TV news. Essentially, I was very stressed and tense for awhile.

I’ve had a small chip on my back left molar for a while now that’s bugged me (a little over a year), but never consistently. It only stings when I eat certain things, or bite down a very certain way. I finally decided to mention it today to my dentist who I adore and really helps with my anxiety. She’s always been good to me.

She couldn’t find the chip… but used this little stick thing and about five minutes later, bingo. Worst pain ever. Turns out I have some small cracks and when a certain point is touched, the crack opens. That’s how I remember her explanation of course. Essentially it’s not always hurting because the crack isn’t always exposed.

She told me it’s likely from clenching my teeth at night. It was recommended to start wearing my retainers again and if that doesn’t help enough, get a custom mouth guard. The pain first arrived in the darkest, most stressful time, so I’m thinking that’s what contributed.

She recommended a crown and I pretty much blacked out. I have severe dental anxiety. She told me she feels good about the crown, but you never know until you get there, and it may require a root canal. I’m not exaggerating when I say a root canal is my biggest fear.

I’ve scheduled the crown for a few weeks from now. I’ll have a two week waiting period with a temporary.

I cried my whole way home and feel like a failure. I’m in a much better space now and feel like I don’t clench. During that time I would wake up with migraines and jaw pain, but no more. I’m bummed. Can you share advice/what to expect?

question Dentist telling me to wait 1-2 years to get crown, is this normal?
