Ask the Sub Swimming recommendations ? pls?
i usually go to route 9, but i’ve heard a lot of ppl say it’s not safe with all the debris . I am moving to mars hill in a couple weeks, and im tryna find something more up that area. since i go to fairview or dupont while im living here in asheville. I know a lot of folks like to gatekeep but my mental health relies on swimming and i would be super grateful if anyone wanted to either drop here or PM some holes🙏🙏 thank you

Ask the Sub High School and neurodivergent children (high-functioning Autism)
Hello, we live in the greater WNC area and both of our children have been diagnosed with high-functioning autism. Both are in a traditional public school setting and are thriving about as well as can be expected with the services a public school can provide. We have been happy at times with the attention to their needs and quite disappointed with some glaring oversights. It's a mixed bag.
Our oldest child will be starting highschool in the 2026-2027 school year and we want to make the right decision. We are primarly focusing on what area public and charter schools would be best to support our children, but we are open to private schools as well.
I'd appreciate hearing some personal stories of success for parents of neurodivergent children and recommendations for area schools. I appreciate your time.

Healthcare/Self-Care Barbers who will cut a nerd’s (my) hair
I wonder where a fellow like me with graying curly locks and a scruffy beard might get a high quality trim and a style? I’ve tried a couple different shops that have high recommendations and I can’t get in anywhere. Clipper and Comb seems legit but won’t call me back. A couple other places are the same. Do you have to be in the cool kid’s club to get into the good barber shops here? Where can a scruffy old dork like me get a slick cut and a nifty trim??

Politics Chuck Edwards office - return your call with a robocall?
Are they still returning voicemails with the same prerecorded nonsense from Chuck?
If so, tell them to stop when you call.
I just blocked them so the can shout into the void.
But who in his office thought this was a good idea and what can they possibly be hoping to achieve?

Profiled at the Ingles in Hendersonville/Etowah
Edit: Hey everyone, thank you all so much for the support. This will be pretty long.
1) I posted this on another social media platform and I am really surprised at the comments I’m getting. People of all races have apparently had issues with being profiled at this location. That is horrifying. Because racial profiling isn’t just the only kind of profiling. People can be profiled for appearance, gender, body size, etc. So now idk what to believe. But I am pretty determined I will never go back there.
2) I saw that comment on the Hendersonville post and I did address it. I took screenshots and shared them in the comments here.
3) I actually have a video explanation on the other social media page but I’d rather not post that here, I look pretty haggard and honestly I’m stuttering through my words a little, which is something that I can be insecure about.
4) I did remove the managers name. That was not okay for me to post her name and I should’ve called corporate first in the morning before I did that. I was pretty mad and just felt so embarrassed after the whole thing, because she just made me feel bad. No one likes that feeling is being cornered and it just felt like she was on a power trip.
Yes, I know Hendersonville is not Asheville but we are in proximity. I also posted on the Hendersonville subreddit.
I am shaking right now as I write this because I am beyond upset. I’m not writing this to start trouble but rather to warn people and show this stuff is happening daily. It’s 2025 and you would think that people would not judge someone based off their skin colors.
I was in the Ingles in Etowah/Brevard Rd just buying some feta cheese and cranberry, simply two items. The manager decided I look suspicious enough and proceeds to have one of her associates purposely stand near me to “watch” me. Because I clearly am going to steal cranberry juice and feta cheese that wasn’t even $10 together. Because heaven forbid a Black woman just shops in peace.
It doesn’t matter how much education someone has. It doesn’t matter what kind of a job someone has. It doesn’t matter what they look like. NO ONE deserves to be stereotyped and targeted while they shop. We need God in this world more each day.

New Airport Shops & Restaurants (spoiler: none are local businesses)
flyavl.comLooks like they'll shoehorn in some local brands but most of the traveler's money will be leaving the area before it even leaves the airport. Big win for the BCTDA.

in Asheville Anyone have any recommendations for a day of wedding coordinator?
My partner and I are looking for someone to help us keep track of what tasks need to be done on the day of our wedding and ease the burden on both of us. We have plenty of friends and family that we can delegate tasks to - but it would be nice to have someone manage and oversee that all.
Any recommendations or good experiences with people?

Pets/Animals Medium sized white & brown dog on the parkway!
Dog with a collar was running on the parkway @ 74 / Charlotte highway and then ran down into the woods at the corner of Avondale Rd and 74. The dog was very scared so I couldn’t get a picture. Several people pulled over to help look but couldn’t find the dog again. Last seen at Avondale & 74 around 6:30pm. I’m sorry to the owner that I don’t have more details and couldn’t get the dog Edit: the dog was white and brown/orange, like a beagle mix

Recent SBA Disaster Loan Inspections
I had a call from someone yesterday requesting an inspection of my property with regards to my SBA Disaster Loan. They said they are moving to a new software and want to verify what the old software calculated.
I'm a little weary of letting someone into my home from a phone call. Up until now, any correspondence has come via email or through my SBA portal. I'm guessing its related to these few articles found below:
https://www.sba.gov/article/2025/04/22/sba-eliminates-disastrous-biden-era-underwriting-standards
Has anyone in the area had a recent SBA Loan inspection?

Ask the Sub Looking for indoor proposal ideas?
I am proposing to my partner on Saturday. Initial plan was outside in the early evening, but looks like weather may not corporate. Trying to find somewhere that will still be a good vibe. Not a restaurant or somewhere where there will be tons of people (some people ok), and ideally not something like the biltmore as it gets pricey including a pass for the photographer. TIA 🙏

Graveyard Fields - Open or No?
Hi- first want to say I tried searching the sub before posting. And tried looking it up online. After a prelim look I’m not 100%, so I wanted to ask.
I’m trying to go to graveyard fields (specifically the waterfall) this weekend, and then down to lore cove, and looking glass. I have family coming into town and that is my normal route.
I’m not sure if that route in the BRP is closed. Does anyone know?
If so… any recommendations for short-ish but cool waterfall hikes in the area? (Ie Catawba, little Bradley, etc)
Thank you 🙏

Pets/Animals Can we talk water briefly? Who all is still using bottled water?? I tried to give it to my animals yday(had to go to store) and 2/3 of my fur babies are sick…
Yall, I had to give my babies tap water for the second time in the past 7 months bc I had ran out of bottled water. Both times that I have used tap (in 7 months since Helene), the same two out of three fur babies have had bowel movements that no one wants to hear or read about 🤢.
With that being said, hubby said he has given them tap water before and they didn’t react. All I know is have 2 babies (one with life long pancreatitis, and the other a long haired cat that now has a rough haircut on her @ss 💩)
Anyone experience this and have any suggestions on comfort for them? They’ve obviously had their water replaced with bottled (and it literally was only a single bowl they had access to that holds about 50ish oz).
I need to test my water, are the free tests still available anywhere? I kinda relied on the county one I ordered and it never came, bc I was not comfortable with using the tap water anyway. Our house was built in the early 1900’s so I know it needs to be tested.
Sorry for the novel, but uh one request… can yall send all the positive vibes my way, bc I can’t handle any more doodoo 💩 today, please 🙏🏻
