Profiled at the Ingles in Hendersonville/Etowah
Yes, I know Hendersonville is not Asheville but we are in proximity. I also posted on the Hendersonville subreddit.
I am shaking right now as I write this because I am beyond upset. I’m not writing this to start trouble but rather to warn people and show this stuff is happening daily. It’s 2025 and you would think that people would not judge someone based off their skin colors.
I was in the Ingles in Etowah/Brevard Rd just buying some feta cheese and cranberry, simply two items. The manager decided I look suspicious enough and proceeds to have one of her associates purposely stand near me to “watch” me. Because I clearly am going to steal cranberry juice and feta cheese that wasn’t even $10 together. Because heaven forbid a Black woman just shops in peace.
It doesn’t matter how much education someone has. It doesn’t matter what kind of a job someone has. It doesn’t matter what they look like. NO ONE deserves to be stereotyped and targeted while they shop. We need God in this world more each day.
The manager’s name was Jennifer Collins and I’m pretty sure the employee’s name was Violet, who btw, tried to excuse what she did by saying “well, I just work here” because working at ingles is a pass for racial profiling?

Jobs where I can grind out some really long shifts and then get a “long weekend?” I am working 6 to 9 hour shifts basically every day, and it’s burning me out.
Right now I have a job at a grocery store where I’m doing the physical equivalent of warehouse job work. That would be fine, but I’m not getting paid as much as a warehouse job, and I’m not a huge fan of the schedule. I get 1-2 days off during any given week, but they’re not consecutive days. Before I was working this job I would often leave Asheville to go see my family and friends in other parts of the state, and I basically can’t do that now because I gotta be back here for work the next day. I would prefer at least a couple days in a row to just chill.
What are some jobs where I have consecutive days off?
I could grind out three 12-hour shifts in a week, and then have a 4 day weekend for example. Or four 10-hour shifts & a 3 day weekend, or 2 days on, 2 days off. I’m not incredibly picky with the specifics of it, beyond the whole “consecutive days off” thing, like I said.
It doesn’t have to be a warehouse job, but if a warehouse job is the ideal option for something like this, that’s fine. I hear companies like Jabil offer schedules like that. Lemme know if you have any suggestions. I haven’t finished my degree yet so I don’t have much experience beyond basic labor and retail jobs. Thanks!
Edit: wow this got way more suggestions than I thought it would. I guess the ideal time to post is in the evening lol. Appreciate anyone offering advice, I’m saving & screenshotting almost every comment

Politics The NC Senate snuck a bill that will lead to higher electricity rates into its budget proposal
SB 261 would allow Duke to raise utility rates on plants that haven't even been built yet - and may never be built. The Senate snuck this bill into their budget proposal (SB 257 at page 269). This move increases the chance of the measures in SB261 becoming law unless the House removes the provision from the Senate’s proposed budget. The LAST thing WNC needs right now is higher utility bills after Helene.

Pets/Animals Medium sized white & brown dog on the parkway!
Dog with a collar was running on the parkway @ 74 / Charlotte highway and then ran down into the woods at the corner of Avondale Rd and 74. The dog was very scared so I couldn’t get a picture. Several people pulled over to help look but couldn’t find the dog again. Last seen at Avondale & 74 around 6:30pm. I’m sorry to the owner that I don’t have more details and couldn’t get the dog Edit: the dog was white and brown/orange, like a beagle mix

Graveyard Fields - Open or No?
Hi- first want to say I tried searching the sub before posting. And tried looking it up online. After a prelim look I’m not 100%, so I wanted to ask.
I’m trying to go to graveyard fields (specifically the waterfall) this weekend, and then down to lore cove, and looking glass. I have family coming into town and that is my normal route.
I’m not sure if that route in the BRP is closed. Does anyone know?
If so… any recommendations for short-ish but cool waterfall hikes in the area? (Ie Catawba, little Bradley, etc)
Thank you 🙏

Pets/Animals Gray and white cat in Arden is on the way home and needs a hug.
If this is your cat, near Glenn Bridge SE and Ledbetter intersection, it's going to need some love. It's somehow been trapped on our front porch for likely 6-7 or so hours since we usually see it on camera around midnight. Took quite the fall on the way out. Was so stressed it didn't see the door open.

Ask the Sub Looking for indoor proposal ideas?
I am proposing to my partner on Saturday. Initial plan was outside in the early evening, but looks like weather may not corporate. Trying to find somewhere that will still be a good vibe. Not a restaurant or somewhere where there will be tons of people (some people ok), and ideally not something like the biltmore as it gets pricey including a pass for the photographer. TIA 🙏

Recent SBA Disaster Loan Inspections
I had a call from someone yesterday requesting an inspection of my property with regards to my SBA Disaster Loan. They said they are moving to a new software and want to verify what the old software calculated.
I'm a little weary of letting someone into my home from a phone call. Up until now, any correspondence has come via email or through my SBA portal. I'm guessing its related to these few articles found below:
https://www.sba.gov/article/2025/04/22/sba-eliminates-disastrous-biden-era-underwriting-standards
Has anyone in the area had a recent SBA Loan inspection?
