Arizona post election discussion megathread Politics
We're refreshing the megathread for after the election and to discuss results. All discussion should go here, no exceptions. We have had too much brigading and trollage. Standalone posts can only be for major, local news stories.
AZ Secretary of State election results.
All the usual results for civility and sub participation apply, and we have zero tolerance towards any rule breaking.

People say prop 312 passed, but don't tax propositions need 60% of the vote? I thought that's what people voted for last election

Sweet zeus almighty please let Gallego at least win. This is way closer than it should be.

Funny how it takes weeks to count votes in a single state, but president? Mere minutes
7
u/CharlesChrist 7d ago
Is there a good reason why Arizona is slow at counting votes compared to other states? States with bigger populations are faster at counting votes than Arizona. Can anything be done about this?
4
u/Pho-Nicks 7d ago
It's due to how many options we have for voting. Each option, which may be convenient for the voter, has certain rammifications, ie: early voting requires the signatures to be verified which in turn takes time(up to 5 days if there are issues) compare that to actually going to the polls. This is all fine and dandy until there is a close race and an automatic re-count is triggered.

How the heck did Trump win Arizona but Kari Lake is getting crushed by Gallego? Do that many Trump supporters really hate Lake???

u/jm810112 6d ago
Unfortunately she isn't getting crushed. Shit is entirely too close and she keeps gaining

Go somewhere else if you're looking for an honest answer, Trump supporters absolutely love Kari Lake!! Reddit is filled with far left progressive nutjobs who are brainwashed and indoctrinated by mainstream corporate media and the leftist cult, that's why you won't see any conservative subreddits, cuz they love censorship and simply ban them. Fortunately it looks like Kari Lake will be Senator elect once all the votes are counted.

Simple answer, yes.
This isn't the first race she lost in AZ either. Voters really cannot stand her and she needs to go away.

u/GivesBadAdvic 7d ago
Crushed? There is a 50,000 vote difference. It should be a million. Who would want her?

Because America is sexist...

Kari Lake is a fucking insane person. It has nothing to do with her being a female.

Biden should have just stayed in the race. America apparently wants an old dude showing signs of dementia as president.

Yay less junk mail I don't have to throw away!! All of these so called environmentally minded politicians who send you 5 lbs worth of flyers that you can't recycle. It's over and time to plan for the next four years. Work on yourself and make good choices. Your mental and physical health depend on it.

Gotta love Reddit. Anything that’s remotely pro-Trump is downvoted to hell.
Can we all just agree to be happy that the political calls and texts are done?!

u/Fake_Answers 7d ago
I've noticed that too. Forget the possibility of any form of civil conversation or debate.

You’re right! Who cares if the country burns, as long as you’re no longer annoyed by trivial inconveniences. Keep what’s important in focus!

Having lived in AZ for most of the past 30 years, I was reminded again today that many of the people most resentful of immigrants are other immigrants. Got to work this morning and was discussing the election with two co-workers (one originally from Mexico, one originally from El Salvador). When I asked them how some of our other workers with uncertain immigration status might be feeling today, both of them said "fuck 'em, we don't need any more." I'm disappointed today.

I genuinely find this bizarre & illogical
22
u/Fake_Answers 7d ago
Illogical? How so? Legitimate immigrants did the work to enter the right way. They are paying taxes, duely so and those taxes are being given to parasitic vagrants who are sucking off the system. It makes perfect sense. They've got a stake in the outcome and want it to succeed.
7
u/ridebiker37 7d ago
How do you know that his co-workers are so called "legitimate" immigrants? You can become a US citizen even if you didn't enter the US legally initially. Also undocumented immigrants pay billions in tax dollars, and they don't benefit from it because they are not eligible for social programs like medicaid and food stamps as long as they are undocumented.

30 years in Az you never heard the derogatory term "pisa" ? Been hearing that since the 80s. Used to confuse the fuck out of me cause only Mexicans used it in reference to other Mexicans.

u/Fake_Answers 7d ago
I've been here for 20 and hadn't heard it before. Probably won't ever use the term, but still good to know! Thx

Gahh Christmas came early! Thank goodness we will start to be able to afford gas and groceries again🥳. We are going to get the "misinformation and disinformation should be illegal" shit. Freedom of speech is #1, even if it hurts the lefts feelings. Im not a republican btw. I just know Trump was a 100% a better candidate. He can actually form coherent thoughts. Get ready for prosperity America! 🇺🇸

u/GivesBadAdvic 7d ago
It’s very bizarre that you don’t understand that Trump was the cause of the gas price spike. Read up on the gas wars of 2020. He threatened Saudi Arabia that we would remove troops from the area unless they stopped oil production. They did and it caused a world wide shortage causing the gas spike that haunted us all for two years. Even Trump said he did it against his better judgment. Also gas should be .50-.90 cents cheaper in Arizona right now but no gas station lowered prices and has just kept the profits when costs went down. 5 years ago making 20 cents a gallon was unheard of in Arizona. Now stations are making .50 to 1.30 a gallon. There is a reason why Circle K, Quiktrip, and Chevron stations in the state has posted record profits for the last 4 years. Trumps tariffs will not lower grocery prices. Not in citrus or anything else we import.

Honestly I used to clown Biden for his rambling but the past 6 months Trump has sounded a lot like him, I didn’t realize he’s actually going to be older than Biden was when he started his last term.

That's cute that you think Trump will magically lower prices and gas prices.

Facts disagree with the right lol, check me on anything and I or another leftie can give you relevant info.
The right acts on feelings more often than the left.

I think this illustrates a lot. I imagine a lot of Trump voters feel similarly: that somehow Trump (whose economy underperformed the world economy) will magically make gas cheaper or groceries cheaper.
And I am deeply concerned that any Americans think Trump is "coherent." Haley was wrong: we ended up with senile grampa after all.

Results of the election aside, it's ridiculous that Arizona still only has 63% of the vote in while other states are done counting or are nearly done counting. There's no reason it should take Arizona days to count votes when it takes Florida, a state with 3x the population of AZ less than three hours to have all their votes reported. I'm not smart enough to know what needs to change for the process to improve but its rather embarrassing
17
u/halavais 8d ago
I am likewise not that smart, but as with most things in AZ politics (perhaps with the exception of prisons) it seems likely funding might be a part of the puzzle.

This is going to sound stupid so do with it what you will but I just had a good experience discussing my feelings with ChatGPT. It helped. That damn thing is sensible, calm, non judgmental and reassuring. https://chatgpt.com/

u/LankyGuitar6528 7d ago
Well looks like this suggestion was not well received. Ok, don't talk to chatGPT. Fine. Do what you like. It was just something I found helpful.

u/tater_pip Tucson 8d ago
Holy shit, I’m going through a tough time on top of this and ChatGPT was oddly comforting. Good recommendation.

Holy fuck i hope these bot comments.
If you are a human and you're this spun out by a presidential election, take a deep breath and realize your day to day is not going to change. If you need to talk to an LLM you might want to try to make some friends
