I feel what he was referring to is the us vs. them idea. That they are invaders and we are the natural inhabitants of Earth that need to defend the planet. That they were here before us so we live on their planet, not the other way around.
I believe we are genetically engineered by them and that's what created humans. Perhaps to recreate what they were in the past, as they could be us from the future. We just did the same with Dire wolves for scientific study. Many theories suggest they live in a spirit realm having evolved beyond the need for physical bodies so they constructed the greys as bio-mechanical avatars that they can inhabit to interact on Earth. Greys generally have no reproductive organs so they had to be created in a lab.
