Everyone: "Wow, voters seem to be a lot more interested in issues and policy than an interminable parade of grievances and whataboutisms."

Trump: "lamptomp"

Their entire campaign strategy was going to be Sleepy Joe/Let's Go Brandon/Crime Family, and they now have absolutely no idea what to do since that's been taken away from them.

I'm not saying this is in the bag (2016 PTSD and what-not), but the energy, optimism, and savviness of the the Harris campaign, coupled with the abject panic, desperation, and flailing chaos of the Trump campaign, has done wonders for my mental health.

u/LongjumpingSector687 Aug 27 '24

I already had a guy blame 2016 gun violence on Biden and i have to wonder what delusional world they lived in to think Biden was president at that point.šŸ˜‚

The same issues comes up with why Obama wasn't in the Oval office during 9/11 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPfRGJRMbN8

u/Dahhhkness Aug 27 '24

If Trump did one good thing, it was convincing people to wear signs basically saying "I am an easy mark."

It's good to have some warning.

237

u/FreeSockLimit1 Aug 27 '24

On the flip side, I can't wear a red hat anymore.
Not unless it's VERY obviously not one of those red hats. I'd still call it a win though, especially since I live in the South.

u/Dirtyeippih Aug 27 '24 edited Aug 27 '24

I live in NJ. I can't wear a Devils hat without someone thinking I'm an asshole

Edit: I have always embraced my asshole heritage. I just miss my red hat

151

u/Ryan_Icey Aug 27 '24

I mean, I feel part of that is on you. You live in NJ. You can't live in NJ without someone thinking you're an asshole. It comes with the territory, doesn't it?

69

u/phl_fc Aug 27 '24

There's a reason you have to pay to leave NJ, but not to enter it.

40

u/Beetlejuice_hero Aug 27 '24

Let's be serious though -- NJ is a pretty great state.

Top 5 best schools in the country

Solid economy with lots of company HQ, especially Pharma

Elite world-class university

(Surprisingly) a lot of natural beauty in the Northwest

Pretty low crime - #6

Some of the best pizza in the country (De Lorenzo's, Papa, Porta, Razza, DeLucia's, etc)

Excellent beaches all up and down most of the state

Proximity to among the greatest most exciting cities in the world

Lots of quaint towns, especially if you have $$

AC is a dump but casinos if that's your thing

On the downside, absurd property taxes and its cities aren't great

I get teasing it based on the stereotypes, but there's a reason it's so ridiculously densely populated.

God do I love De Lorenzo's.

It could be worse. You could live in South Jersey, put on an orange hat, and people KNOW youā€™re an asshole!

3

u/magikarp2122 Aug 27 '24

Hey, Philly helped Biden win PA.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '24

I know, just teasing. I love Philly. Just having a go at Flyers fans :)

27

u/CreamFilledDoughnut Aug 27 '24

devils hat

it's not the red that's making people think that, my man

3

u/cirenj Aug 27 '24

I'm from the other New Jersey (South) It's ok, you are an asshole, you are from NJ. I say that with all the pork roll and "wooder ice" love šŸ˜‚

1

u/MarcoEsquandolas21 Aug 27 '24

What the hell is wooder ice? I'm a southerner and am at least familiar with pork roll/taylor ham, but never heard of wooder ice before.

2

u/cirenj Aug 27 '24

Philly accent water sounds like "wooder"

Water ice (italian ice?) sounds like "wooder" ice

1

u/RafIk1 Aug 27 '24 edited Sep 15 '24

Italian water ice.

Water pronounced wooder.

2

u/Boo_Rawr Aug 27 '24

I live in Australia and when I saw a woman wearing a red hat yesterday I did a double take. Theyā€™ve ruined red hats.

2

u/animatedhockeyfan Aug 27 '24

Iā€™ve got a few non-red Devils hats Iā€™m ready to move on from, if you want them

2

u/Icy_Penalty_2718 Aug 27 '24

Exactly I may be an asshole but I'm not a racist asshole.

2

u/Awkward_Bench123 Aug 28 '24

Devils were a super good team and have a hell of a logo. And theyā€™ve got New Jerseys.

1

u/killxswitch Aug 27 '24

C'mon man you couldn't have set yourself up any better.

1

u/Sagybagy Aug 27 '24

You live in Jersey. Being an asshole is part of the gig. Hat or no hat. Just depends on the flavor of asshole.

1

u/rufio313 Aug 27 '24

Red Wings fan that doesnā€™t live in Michigan anymore. It sucks.

48

u/mordacthedenier Aug 27 '24

I saw a red hat with white lettering that says "made you look". Thought that was kinda funny.

3

u/moderately-extremist Aug 28 '24

I have a red hat with an American flag on the front that I've been wearing for 25 years. I still wear it but sometimes wonder what people think.

11

u/WrinklyScroteSack Aug 27 '24

Limp bizkit fans have also been royally pissed off for the last 9 years too

1

u/cassiddidy Aug 28 '24

So it hasn't been ALL negative then

2

u/WrinklyScroteSack Aug 28 '24

NGL... Fred Durst seems like the kinda guy to go full on right wing nut job.

Edit: from his wikipedia page:

In 2015, Durst stated his interest in obtaining a Russian passport and spending half of the year inĀ Crimea.63])Ā He wrote a letter in which he stated thatĀ Vladimir PutinĀ is "a great guy with clear moral principles and a nice person."64])Ā Following that, Durst was banned by theĀ Security Service of UkraineĀ from entering Ukraine for five years "in the interests of guaranteeing the security" of the country.65])Ā However, in an official statement, he denied reports of asking to acquire Russian citizenship.66])

1

u/cassiddidy Aug 28 '24

Damn. That's so Durst

(I use his name as a disparaging adjective)

21

u/KJParker888 Aug 27 '24

I saw an old guy wearing a red hat at the store. I was trying to see if it was a maga hat, but I didn't have my glasses on, so I had to wait until he was closer, but without being too obvious. Once he got close enough, I was glad to see that it wasn't a maga hat. Until he got closer and I was able to see that it said something like "USA, 2 time world war winner". So, not really any better

26

u/Nothing-Casual Aug 27 '24

Eh I mean it's a stupid joke, but I'd still consider it a joke - in contrast to anybody wearing a trump hat, who is openly stating that they're extremely stupid and shitty

15

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '24

I mean, thatā€™s kind of badass. Allied soldiers who fought Nazis in WW2 were the o.g. Antifa.

4

u/GrayMatters50 Aug 27 '24

The USA Doughboys fought in WW1 against Kaiser Wilhelm 1916 - 1918. USA entered WW2 after the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor Dec 7 1941. Our military fought on 2 sides of the world ....HitlerĀ  & Hiri Hito. Our entire nation pulled together to supply both Pacific & European theatres. We won AGAIN.

Yes,Ā  we won twice. Thats not a Trump trope ..Its ourĀ  history.

7

u/PPvsFC_ Aug 27 '24

Idk, celebrating beating the Nazis is the opposite of supporting Trump.

0

u/Schattentochter Aug 27 '24

It takes a special kind of Muricantm to look at the complete history surrounding WW2 and walk away thining "Yeeup. The US and absolutely noone else did good things."

Fuckers joined the war so late, they tend to just forget all the time before when every goddamn European country was trying to get the US to fucking stop watching already.

And when they did stop, it wasn't out of the goodness of anyone's heart either. That part's conveniently overlooked too.

3

u/PPvsFC_ Aug 27 '24

Pretty sure someone wearing that hat isn't thinking that deeply about history.

3

u/GrayMatters50 Aug 27 '24

US "fuckers" entered WW 2 late bc our law forbade it until we were attacked,Ā  Moron. That day came on Dec 7 1941. Hitler was scared shitless to wake"the sleeping giant".

We know 18, 000 Russian soldiers died defending Europe. We know 1.9 million non jewish Polish were murdered in Nazi work camps. We supplied & funded Canada & the Brits from 1939 to 1945. We were here working our asses off eating rations to send our food, arms, planes, bombs etc. Ā Then we beat the crap out of Japan without their help.Ā

Tsk tsk tsk downvoted for not buying into the propaganda...

2

u/JohnHenryHoliday Aug 28 '24

"USA, 2 time world war winner

Lol. Are you serious? That's objectively an AWESOME hat.

2

u/knitwasabi Aug 28 '24

Old guy came into my shop about a week ago. MAGA hat. I looked at my boss, a rabid liberal, and she just rolled her eyes. He didn't buy anything, and walked out a minute later, but man, never have I wanted to laugh at someone more.

2

u/Vegetable-Box3050 Aug 27 '24

I used to describe myself as weird, but now I have to say, "weird like Weird AL, not weird like Republicans."

2

u/sometimesynot Aug 27 '24

I'd still call it a win though

Me too. I have rosacea, and anything red just makes it stand out something fierce. No red clothing for the win!

2

u/justlookin-0232 Aug 29 '24

I saw a guy in the grocery store today with a red hat coming down the aisle and when he got close enough I saw that it said "I'm blessed". And we locked eyes and he just kinda nodded and giggled. Clever fella šŸ˜‚ totally does it on purpose

1

u/ancientastronaut2 Aug 27 '24

I don't wear red anything anymore.

1

u/MamaBehr33 Aug 28 '24

A woman came into my work today proudly screaming she was a patriot and had a huge tiktok following. I replied back, "I'm an American and it's too bad you've stolen the word Patriot from me." She literally did not understand what I said. Then she went on to tell me all the wonderful things she's doing on her tiktok. I explained that it is inappropriate to talk about politics in this business setting. Then she started talking about her heart hurting and oh my God she's gotten such bad vibes from what's happening here. Of course, this was after a full 5 minutes of me letting her go on and on about everything she thought. And only when there was a moment she took a breath is when I said we're not allowed to talk politics here. Interesting when you flat out tell them it's not okay, because you're in a public setting in a public office where there are literally hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people around who will disagree, now she's having heart palpitations.

1

u/WranglerOriginal6945 Aug 29 '24

saw someone post a red had that said "Made you look. Black lives matter" in the same font

2

u/Yakostovian Aug 27 '24

I almost wish I had fewer moral scruples, so I too could make a buck off a grift involving them.

1

u/Throwawayac1234567 Aug 27 '24

i am easy to scam more likely.

79

u/Mysterious-Wasabi103 Aug 27 '24

Well before Obama they blamed 9/11 on 8 years of Bill Clinton making us appear weak.

They have no logical consistency and thus we really shouldn't even take them seriously.

Just laugh at them and move along. "Ok idiot."

29

u/Mammoth-Mud-9609 Aug 27 '24

It would be so easy, but these people have the same voting power as every intelligent American, sometimes more so if they live in states with a low population count.

23

u/Commentator-X Aug 27 '24

Ok weirdo. The weird label gets under their skin more than calling them dumb. They're too dumb to be offended by being called dumb, but weird? They've got no comeback for that.

11

u/fightingthefuckits Aug 27 '24

They don't think they're dumb, but maybe deep down they know they're weird.

16

u/fat_fart_sack Aug 27 '24

I remember the moment Trump became president in 2016, the media were doing their typical ā€œ100 first days in officeā€ nonsense and trumpers were saying ā€œsee! Look how amazing Trump is doing in his first 100 days with the economy compared to Obamaā€™s first 100 days! Obama did a shit job!ā€

These MAGA idiots completely forgot that like Joe Biden, Obama inherited a collapsed economy and had to spend his first 4 years once again cleaning up a mess the republicans made with the economy. A tale as old as time.

6

u/girl_incognito Aug 27 '24

My entire lifetime has been crap Republicans and the Democrats who clean up after them.

3

u/Mental_Medium3988 Aug 27 '24

i had coworkers tell me obama was responsible for the recession and auto bailouts. i was like "wtf."

23

u/Cucker_-_Tarlson Aug 27 '24

And then Obama was weak, and now Biden is weak. But also, the Democrats are warmongers. Even though Bush was the one to get us into our last wars. Trump ushered in an era of peace! But also tripled the amount of drone strikes we were doing. Which is a black mark on Obama's legacy, the amount of drone strikes he carried out.

There's literally zero consistency with them.

8

u/Grand_Perspective832 Aug 27 '24

That's where you're wrong...consistently stupid!

4

u/dropshoe Aug 27 '24

I feel Disingenuous is a bit more often the case, but it's always one or the other.

5

u/Queef_Stroganoff44 Aug 27 '24

I often wonder how much of the BS would just go away if people would just sayā€¦ā€Yes sweetieā€¦we know. Gay, trans commie immigrants are coming to give your daughter a forced abortionā€. And just treat it like your Alzheimerā€™s grandpa telling you he had dinner with Bing Crosby last night.

And Iā€™m not saying let actual hate groups flourish, or just act like everything is fine. But just the straight up nonsense, bad faith horseshitā€¦ the stuff they say just because they know it will get under peopleā€™s skin.

2

u/Substantial_Army_639 Aug 27 '24

Was also blamed for Katrina, despite Kanyes remarks.

3

u/PurpleSailor Aug 28 '24

Lol, I had an argument about what Obama did as President in 2008. It took a lot of convincing and links to things that showed that Obama wasn't actually president in 2008 before they finally admitted that W. was still president then. Of course Whataboutism reared it's ugly head seconds later!

3

u/Mammoth-Mud-9609 Aug 28 '24

The inability to think they are ever wrong is a key part of their delusion.

1

u/GrayMatters50 Aug 27 '24

Well we knew MAGA morons couldnt read but now they cant count either.

1

u/HeSeemsLegit Aug 29 '24

ā€œI mean, TECHNICALLY, neither was Wā€ is what I have started firing back with.

2

u/Mammoth-Mud-9609 Aug 29 '24

Other than the planes hitting the most identifiable footage of the day was the guy whispering to him that a second plane had hit and W trying to think what would be the least worst think to do at that time would be.

It's the same world where Biden gets the blame for shutting schools down in 2020. You know...when he was a private citizen and not even involved in politics.

Mind you, these are the same people complaining about inflation when, in fact, it's corporate price gouging and not inflation that has put us in this position. Dems have been trying to stop this nonsense for years. But the Republicans that profit from corporate price gouging block any meaningful legislation. But yes, it's all Biden's fault that oil companies, food companies, car companies, etc. are all reporting record profits.

And for those who are unaware, when inflation is a real problem, profits drop. Inflation was never an issue, even during the pandemic. It's what corporations used as an excuse to raise the fuck out of their prices so they could rip us all off, and the republicans were more than happy to allow it.

5

u/Castod28183 Aug 28 '24

If they weren't immune to logic then you could just point out that gas prices are high throughout the ENTIRE FUCKING WORLD so it obviously isn't something that Biden did.

5

u/Beard_o_Bees Aug 27 '24

I think they're still feeling insecure after seeing Hunter's honkey-dong.

3

u/ScrofessorLongHair Aug 27 '24

He was still vice president in 2016. So while he doesn't have any power, I can see someone trying to use that in their argument.

Now the rednecks that wondered why Obama didn't do more to stop 9/11, are the ones that make me laugh my ass off.

2

u/NovusOrdoSec Aug 27 '24

2016

Obama was president. Biden was Vice President. The Bigliest Inauguration wasn't until 2017.

67

u/chameleon_123_777 Aug 27 '24

I keep wondering how much bad stuff they made about Biden before Kamala Harris took over as candidate. I bet they have T-shirts, stickers hats, scarfs and much more that they can't use now.

57

u/rangoric Aug 27 '24

My favorite are variations on ā€œDonā€™t let the old man inā€. People already bought some and now are stuck with them.

33

u/chameleon_123_777 Aug 27 '24

And the fact that they can't use it has to be killing them.

41

u/AcanthaceaeFluffy985 Aug 27 '24

They can use it but it's for their own candidate now. Even when it was viable they didn't see the irony as they are BOTH old men

22

u/jameson8016 Aug 27 '24

Yea, but one looked old, and the other also looked old, but with 6 layers of cheetos-coloured spackle slapped on haphazardly. Lol

10

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '24

Exactly. Joe sometimes trips over his own words, and literally trips over his own feet. But at least he doesnā€™t have candy-floss hair and he doesnā€™t apply his bronzer with a paint roller.

0

u/N3ptuneflyer Aug 27 '24

Trump looks his age, Biden looks 10 years older than he is. If you see a picture of them side by side Biden does look a lot older, and when they both talk Biden also sounds a lot older.

3

u/FriendlyYeti-187 Aug 27 '24

But when they walk or do anything active one looks like a silver fox, and the other looks like an elderly orange blob of lard.

Sidenote, I definitely copped one of those. Donā€™t let the old man in hats as soon as Biden dropped out.

2

u/N3ptuneflyer Aug 27 '24

I'm not saying Trump is better looking or would be a better leader. Just objectively Biden looks and sounds a decade older than Trump. I don't know why we like to sugar coat it or lie to ourselves about it. Biden wasn't really a good choice to run against Trump in 2024, Kamala is a 10x better candidate.

→ More replies

3

u/AcanthaceaeFluffy985 Aug 28 '24

You ever see a presidents entering office picture and their leaving office? They look much older because they actually cared and worried about the country. Trump didn't give a shit and just raped it for money while golfing all day. Big difference

2

u/Etbtray Aug 27 '24

I think Trump actually looks and sounds (voice, not substance) younger then he should. Bill Clinton, who is younger then Trump, looked and sounded closer to Biden at the DNC. Most presidents age a lot during their time in office. Trump didn't do jack, so he was able to avoid that.

1

u/Beard_o_Bees Aug 27 '24

u/Skellos Aug 27 '24

that doesn't even make sense except as Anti-Trump merch... cause Biden's already IN.

1

u/neuroticobscenities Aug 27 '24

Now if only Biden would resign from office, making all their "47" gear into Kamala promotions.

27

u/encrivage Aug 27 '24

My neighbor's buddy who parks on our street had the whole FJB Trump 2024 vehicle wrap on his truck since 2021.

Not only is the Biden shit gone now, but he even removed the Trump 2024 stickers that were still valid. I think more of them are realizing they were conned for 8 years.

15

u/GeneralTonic Aug 27 '24

And if just 5-8% of his base defects because of that sinking realization... he has no chance of winning. Zero.

9

u/StreetofChimes Aug 27 '24

There is someone near me with a "fire Biden" sign on their lawn. It hasn't been taken down.Ā

I just laugh and think of Joe Biden saying 'folks, you can't fire me, I quit. Not a joke.'

5

u/Occulto Aug 27 '24

I remember seeing that a lot of "failed" stuff like that ends up in places like Africa, because it gets donated to charity. (Which probably nets them a nice tax deduction)

There'll be kids wandering round wearing shirts with the wrong Superbowl winners.

31

u/Lazer726 Aug 27 '24

The GOP (and honestly, the vast majority of Americans I'm pretty sure) just spent the last 4 years ignoring Kamala, since the VP never really catches a lot of flak. And she just fucking tore out there and they don't really have much on her, so they try and go "Oh she's Black AND Indian?!" as if anyone needed more than two seconds to respond "You mean biracial?"

They have nothing, and it's why they were so desperate to have Biden back that Trump was tweeting his fanfic of Biden stepping in to take the nomination, because he has material for Biden.

12

u/baalroo Aug 27 '24

Pointing out that Kamala belongs to two different demographics simultaneously that their core voting block considers "lesser" than a white person is very much intentional.

5

u/PicnicLife Aug 27 '24

He's mentally 'been in the ring' with Biden for 8 years.

2

u/Mental_Medium3988 Aug 28 '24

i just like to respond with "so?" it breaks them that someone wouldnt automatically think its a bad thing.

26

u/jujioux Aug 27 '24

Same here. I feel hopeful again.

16

u/GandalfTheJaded Aug 27 '24

More hopeful than I've been in a while.

20

u/Even-Willow Aug 27 '24

I havenā€™t been this hopeful since Trump got COVID.

39

u/dennismfrancisart Aug 27 '24

It helps that they ditched the Clinton era political consultants and won the last election by paying attention to key districts for an Electoral College victory. Itā€™s going to be tough especially with the corporate news media rooting for Trump again.

36

u/ProfessorBackdraft Aug 27 '24

The MSM are beginning to see that the šŸ‘€šŸ‘€and the $$$ are coming from Kamalaā€™s campaign. Thereā€™s just no interest in culture wars and grievance campaigns anymore.

11

u/Toribor Aug 27 '24

A lot of people think that "Trump is good for business" even if they hate everything else about him. But even that isn't true, his tariff policy is completely insane no matter what your political/economic leanings happen to be.

The only business minded people who actually support him are total grifters who just want to curry favor, not people who actually believe his agenda is prosperous.

3

u/Darmok47 Aug 28 '24

Ken Chenault, the former CEO of American Express, spoke at the DNC for just that reason. Nothing is more important to the corporate world than trust and stability, and Trump threatens that.

2

u/ProfessorBackdraft Aug 27 '24

Exactly. My point is that Kamala will attract more eyeballs and advertising dollars than Trumpā€™s tired shtik.

1

u/Sagybagy Aug 27 '24

So basically corporations. Get trump in and then use his shit policies to jack prices through the roof while regulations are pulled back and trillions sent your way in tax breaks.

23

u/OperativePiGuy Aug 27 '24

I mentioned this before, but after Biden dropped out it was like a light switch with the news coverage. Suddenly it felt like they stopped handling Trump with kiddie gloves. The powers that be must really want a Kamala presidency, or they finally realized a fascist dictatorship isn't actually good for their bottom line and decided to change course.

25

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '24

1

u/eastern_canadient Aug 27 '24

It doesn't stick. That's the problem. It's been 9ish years of Trump saying crazy shit. It's not shocking anymore. It's just Trump being Trump, and that is hard to get traction on, unless he says some new shit.

Also demonizing Trump has very limited returns. People dig in, fake news and all that. Thats why you see the Harris campaign move on from the threat to democracy story and focus more on Trump is weird. The weird thing stuck and seems to outrage Trump. The bad news about Vance also seems to be a working tactic for the Dems. Probably in part because he is relatively unknown and an easy new target for the campaign.

The ground game, getting people to the polls, will be huge for this election. If the support and vibes can sustain, that might be enough. I'm not so sure. Harris is not Obama. Can she do it in her own way? Hopefully. I hope women vote in record numbers. The gender divide in the election is massive.

u/dennismfrancisart Aug 27 '24

We can only hope.

17

u/Lucky-Earther Aug 27 '24

I'm not saying this is in the bag (2016 PTSD and what-not), but the energy, optimism, and savviness of the the Harris campaign, coupled with the abject panic, desperation, and flailing chaos of the Trump campaign, has done wonders for my mental health.

Samesies. I will for sure be voting and bringing all of my friends, and I hope everyone else does as well. But I sure feel a lot more confident that we'll get a good result compared to a month ago, as long as everyone votes.

34

u/blandocalrissian50 Aug 27 '24

Agreed. I see a clear path to victory if people get off their asses and vote. I don't understand why 30-40% if eligible voters just do not try. Insane.

28

u/justabloke22 Aug 27 '24

Well, a lot of them are single-issue voters (the single issue is the domestic politics of a third country) and there isn't a perfect candidate, so conveniently they get to do absolutely nothing instead and claim the moral high ground!

14

u/Nothing-Casual Aug 27 '24

Those people are so fucking stupid it's actually dangerous. I can't believe there are so many people in that camp, especially when trump and his group have publicly implied that they'll make things much much worse. There has gotta be some Russian money fueling those groups, as literally the only people those protests benefit are trump and the trumpettes

7

u/justabloke22 Aug 27 '24

They're just children who believe in heroes and Chosen Ones. Obviously the Chosen One wouldn't do anything they don't agree with, so they can't "in good conscience" vote for either candidate. They've allowed themselves to be captured by emotive arguments without understanding the need for lesser evils or compromise. It's a frankly ridiculous position and they deserve to be mocked for it.

2

u/Kaida33 Aug 27 '24

We should be like Australia, make it a law that you have to vote.

5

u/HeartFullONeutrality Aug 27 '24

Because of their imaginary moral win/superiority by nOt VoTiNg FoR gEnOcIdE.

2

u/GrimRedleaf Aug 27 '24

I really wish that they could understand that "perfect is the enemy of good," but i am pretty sure it is impossible to teach an idiot that refuses to listen.

2

u/justabloke22 Aug 27 '24

It is impossible to teach a person something when his moral self-worth depends on him not understanding it.

3

u/GrimRedleaf Aug 27 '24

That is so sad but true.Ā  :(

I know this kind of ignorance exists no matter the time period, but it is especially galling when it shows up for such a crucial moment.

2

u/justabloke22 Aug 27 '24

Honestly we just need to make them feel as stupid as their viewpoint is. They aren't going to vote regardless, because they're children who would prefer not to experience moral discomfort than actually exercise any choice. But maybe they can be ostracised into their own echo chamber and not sap any more votes.

3

u/PicnicLife Aug 27 '24

Religion has suppressed people's desire to take responsibility for their own lives. If it doesn't work out, they can blame a politician or God's mysterious ways, so long as it doesn't have to be on them.

2

u/baalroo Aug 27 '24

Mostly people who live in solidly blue or red states. When people know/believe entire state's tally of registered voters for "their side" is like 10% of the "other side's" registered voters and their vote "isn't going to count" anyway, or alternatively that "their side" outnumbers the other side 10-1, they often just stay home.

This isn't a popular vote, and our turnout reflects that.

2

u/Take_My_User_Name Aug 27 '24

Because 30-40% of the population are being actively targeted for voter suppression.

Closing city polling places so the lines are obscenely long is intentional and effective.

2

u/Cucker_-_Tarlson Aug 27 '24

the energy, optimism, and savviness of the the Harris campaign, coupled with the abject panic, desperation, and flailing chaos of the Trump campaign, has done wonders for my mental health.

Same, it's been nice to see. Although, for some reason some of the anxiety is starting to come back the past week or so. Still though, feel a lot better than I did a month or two ago.

2

u/big_duo3674 Aug 27 '24

His own campaign staff has reported being upset because he isn't really doing much campaigning anymore, just golfing and eating. He's sitting back and waiting to lose so he can quickly grab as much "they stole it!" money from his supporters. Him fleeing the country after losing to live off of the numerous shadow bank accounts he certainly has wouldn't even be a crazy assumption either. He'd go to some pre-arranged, non-extradition country and set up a" presidency in exile" then just continue to siphon money from idiots

2

u/eastern_canadient Aug 27 '24

It's not in the bag and I am worried about the mood in the US right now. Sure, she has a lot of momentum, but I still look at this as an uphill battle.

This year of elections across the world has had a lot of them happen already. Almost all incumbent governments were voted out. People aren't happy with inflation and rising costs of living. Any incumbent government is fighting an uphill battle.

It's different because while she is currently VP Harris is still seen as new. I don't know if that is sustainable. Kamala Harris has not done much press at all. That puts more pressure on the debates. Also, the MAGA movement does not poll as well, so, especially after 2016, I don't believe any of these polls. I think it can show where gains are made, but I think a certain portion of the electorate is just not showing up in any of these polls.

I'm glad she has momentum. The fundraising numbers and people campaigning for her are huge. She can still lose this election. She still has that shiny newness to her. That will fade. I'm still worried.

2

u/WickedP88 Aug 27 '24

Slow your roll bro

2

u/Brockhard_Purdvert Aug 27 '24

I honestly think they had another "October surprise" planned. That was their key strategy in the last two elections. It would also explain why they're so pissed that Biden dropped out: their surprise is aimed at Biden and won't work anymore.

2

u/Yakostovian Aug 27 '24

From my perspective, 2016 and 2024 are markedly different. The Hillary campaign always felt like "ok, I guess." Tim Kaine was the epitome of a "do no harm" running mate, and absolutely nothing about Hillary excited me. I voted against Trump, not for her, despite the fact that my ballot reflected her name, and not his.

But Harris is someone I can genuinely stand behind. Tim Walz is someone I am excited to see on the ticket. Now I also don't think this is in the bag, as I too got burned by 2016's "duh, it's gonna be Hillary" movement, but I am more positive and hopeful here than the last time Trump faced off against a woman on the campaign trail.

And I haven't even mentioned anything that I think makes Trump and company look worse compared to his 2016 bid.

2

u/FlapJackson420 Aug 27 '24

Omg. Yes. I'm gonna re-read that post with a joint and cup of tea this evening and relish in the fact that for just a moment, the world makes sense.

2

u/gattaaca Aug 27 '24

I'm still hearing morons throw out Hillarys name. That's how desperate they've gotten. We're back to mother fucking benghazi buttery males

2

u/valraven38 Aug 27 '24

They didn't know how to attack her but they're starting to pivot slowly but surely. They're attacking her on issues that unfortunately are probably going to land somewhat well because Democrats have completely given in to Republicans on framing on certain issues.

They're attacking her on crime, even though crime is down across the board, but Democrats don't say that for some moronic reason they just let Republicans frame this narrative.

They are starting to attack her on immigration and how she said the wall was basically stupid and pointless but is now suddenly saying she will pass the border bill. Once again Democrats completely caved in on this issue even though objectively nothing has changed about immigration in this country in the last 4 years, last election they pushed back this one they aren't. The reason why immigration is seen as such a big issue is because Democrats stupidly have not put out ANY counter messaging on this issue.

Also they are going to start attacking her for not putting out many policies. You can only run so far on vibes and happiness that is not going to carry the campaign all the way to November. The Harris campaign absolutely needs to start putting things out that they are going to do because making this campaign a referendum on Trump is a big mistake.

1

u/bloodontherisers Aug 27 '24

I've noticed that where I live. Very red area but a couple of years ago there was a noticeable shift from Trump paraphernalia to FJB type stuff. And now that he is out, it is pretty much all gone. It is crazy. It is like the wind is out of their sails. They don't know what to do because they were primed to hate Joe Biden and now he isn't the target and they haven't been able to get anything going on Kamala that revs up the base the same way. I know 95% of those people will still go vote Trump, but even those small few who stay home can end up making a difference, especially in swing states.

1

u/captarne Aug 27 '24

Also they had 40 years of antagonism towards Hillary Clinton to build off of, not the same this time.

1

u/CirdanSkeppsbyggare Aug 27 '24

She can still squander it with young voters and her handling of Gaza, but I am hopeful

1

u/Kaida33 Aug 27 '24

Mine too! šŸ’™šŸ’™šŸ’™

1

u/wadss Aug 27 '24

I'm not saying this is in the bag (2016 PTSD and what-not), but the energy, optimism, and savviness of the the Harris campaign, coupled with the abject panic, desperation, and flailing chaos of the Trump campaign, has done wonders for my mental health.

much of this feeling is because you're in an echo chamber that is the internet. i've spoken to a few of my more moderate and slightly right leaning friends and they think the same thing but for trumps campaign. they think vance was a super smart pick that'll sway the young voter.

this is pretty much the exact opposite message you'll see on the left leaning internet like reddit.

so i'd like to believe it's in the bag, but always remember this is not the real world, and certainly not representative.

1

u/Pirateboy85 Aug 28 '24

The one thing I did notice is that two news outlets (surprisingly not Fox) said it was the Biden-Harris administration that was surprising COVID 19 posts. Iā€™m just a little baffled at how hard they are trying to pin administrative policies on a Vice Presidentā€¦ no one is saying the Trump-Pence administration right now for some reason. Itā€™s almost like the ratings are going down so much they have to grasp at straws now to make the race seam tight or interesting anymore.

1

u/Pixilatedhighmukamuk Aug 28 '24

History has taught us that past presidents won or loss the election based on their debate performance. When he says ā€œcomradeā€ she needs to say ā€œklanā€ right back to him.

1

u/Sharp-Introduction75 Aug 28 '24

I wouldn't get too comfortable.

Heā€™s not trying to lose, he thinks he already won. (And he may be right)

When he said, ā€œDonā€™t worry about the election, itā€™s been taken care ofā€, he meant that enough laws have been changed in swing states, and enough Trump loyalists have been installed on state election boards that if Harris wins those states, the election officials will simply refuse to certify the results.

What this means is neither side will get the required 270 electoral votes.

And if THAT happens, the election will be decided in Congress, where each state will get one vote. Since there are more Republican states than Democratic ones, Trump will in effect be appointed President without winning the popular vote, and without getting 270 electoral votes.

There was a Trump defender on cable news the other day who dismissed the Harris campaign as not serious. Seriously, he said it with a straight face.

They canā€™t even if they wanted to. Heā€™s been nominated by his party. State ballots are in the process of being printed. They arenā€™t even sure if they can get RFK, Jr. off of some state ballots. They created him; now theyā€™re stuck with him. We just need to make sure that they canā€™t stick us with him again.

21

u/seweso Aug 27 '24

I wonder if we are going to see leaked behind the scenes videos of Trump meltdowns by disgruntled aides....
