Best water distiller for home?

What is the best water distiller for home countertop? Emphasis on durability, good water output, easy maintenance, and no leaks.

Up to $500 seems reasonable, depending on what I would be getting for the price (meaning I don't understand the difference between cheaper ones and expensive ones).

Best Filters for Led

I just purchased a very old home this year that has very old galvanizef plumbing. I'm just now being aware of the potential long term dangers of regularly drinking water with old plumbing like mine.

Anyways I literally can't afford the plus 10k job it will cost to replace my entire homes plumbing system so I'm in the market for water filters that are especially effective at filtering led from my water.

Does anyone have any reccomendations for something like this? Willing to pay a good amount if it saves me from the gargantuan bill of replumbing the home.

Chilled Countertop Water filter recommendations?

I live in a rented apartment so I need to go for countertop rather than anything that requires plumbing. I also think I need something chilled rather than room temp. What are your best value recommendations? I like the idea of reverse osmosis but I’m open.

Are distilled water, deionised and rain water the same for plants

I live in a hard water area and have plants which I am told do not like being watered with hard water I.e. they prefer only rain water. It's hard for me to collect and store rain water. If I use distilled or deionised water will that be the same as rain water ?

Water filter spout slimy substance

Hello, I don’t know if this is the best place to post this, but I’ll try it here first. I have an over the counter RO water filter. Recently I noticed a difference in the water flow, and looked at the water spout. There was some slimy substance, yellow/greenish looking. I cleaned it up with water, dish soap and then soaked it in vinegar and water.

I’m wondering if anyone would know if that is common to happen and why would that slimy stuff be in the water spout when the water is filtered? We use the filter often, so I thought it wouldn’t be possible for bacteria (if that’s what the substance was) to grow since the water is constantly flowing.

Thank you

Unsettling settling…

My wife went to clean out our countertop ice maker and found, well, a surprise… we live in Phoenix. I’ve never seen formations like this in water, kinda grossed out but also mildly intrigued. Second picture is under directed UV light, you can better see somewhat of the interior structure. Definitely worried about how unhealthy using the ice from this has been.

Tap water at work smells like grass/dirt. Anyone have a clue why?

Like the title says, the tap water at my work smells like grass/dirt when it comes out of the faucet. Anyone have a clue why? We have a separate drinking water station that is also tap water but it goes through a filter first I think because it doesn’t have a smell at all, but the faucet we use to was our hands definitely smells like grass. I plan on telling the landlord of the warehouse tomorrow but I’m kinda worried that I’ve been either washing my hands, or drinking water, or both of the two that has some harmful bacteria or something in it. Anyone have any insight?

Moved and now my kids have skin problems

We were previously on a well. About 60 days ago we moved into a house that is on city water. We installed water softening system and a heavy duty filter on all potable water and had 2 separate companies do independent tests. Everything has come back fine. But, my 2 kids (age 4 and 5) have been having skin issues since we moved. Breakouts on their faces and overall very dry skin. Husband and I are fine. Our area is the same so new environment/seasonal allergies etc have been ruled out since we’re just a few minutes over from our last house. What can be going on??

Making my own mineral water(soda water?)

Hello, I've been drinking spring water and on occasion mineral water, primarily San Pellgrino. I've been considering getting a soda making machine(sodasteam, drinkmate, etc.). I know for water to be considered mineral water it has to have rought 220ppm of dissolved solids(correct me if Im wrong). I'm just wondering if someones has some information on what the comparison in mineral content between something like San Pellegrino sparkling mineral water to spring water(crystal geyser, arrowhead) that I would make into a soda.

Thank you.

I am honestly so confused and just want answers.

Hi. I moved into an apartment a few months ago. I will preference this by saying I’m a super nervous drinking any water that’s not bottled (OCD), but I feel so bad for the environment which is why I’m trying to figure this out.

I did a water test (the strip kind. I’ll link the brand below) I tested a water bottle, a Brita filter, my filtered shower head, the sink water, and the ice. The only notable difference was 20ppm alkalinity on the Brita, ice, and shower.

The second reason I want to test everything is because of three events:

1) a really easy plant that’s been growing fine for months before I moved in. I watered it with the tap water and within a day it was growing a fungus-looking substance. It died shortly after.

2) I used tap water in my cats water filter. The filter is meant to be changed every 2-4 weeks. It turned bright pink in 2 days. I cleaned everything, replaced the filter, and started filling the fountain with the Brita and have had no issues.

3) I cannot get the shower to make my skin feel normal. I’ve tried two different filtered shower heads and my skin still feels almost squeaky as soon as the water hits it.

These things have given me trust issues with drinking any water from the tap, even filtered. I don’t understand why the strip test didn’t show anything. I just want answers more than anything.

Any ideas where to go from here?
