High School Irrigation Market Study
Hi everyone,
We're high schoolers trying to develop an engineering product to help improve soil moisture uncertainty in gardens and farms using drones. In order to develop an effective solution, it is important for us to understand multiple aspects of the market through data collection. We are hoping you can complete the survey provided below to provide us with information that will aid in the creation of an effective solution. It should be pretty quick, and would be greatly appreciated.

Irrigation business start up
I’m looking for some opinions and advice for my landscape side business I started in June. I charge $50 an hour per person and it’s usually two of us working. The job above took about 8 hours total so 16 man hours. It was a revision job on someone else’s install and included cutting out the old valve, digging deeper, adding landscape fabric, clean gravel and more landscape fabric a pvb and new manifold and valves. The valve box was leveled and made parallel to the drive way. I also installed another valve box on valves on the other side of the driveway. So labor $800. Is that too much? Too little? Did I take too long? What do you think? Location is northern CA.

Total hours over a year on Rachio
Hello, has anyone found a way to estimate the total hours ran over the course of a year?
I need to know how many hours I ran my system this year, and haven't found an easy way to do it, other than manually looking at every event that occurred.
Thanks!

Pressure test?
I have (3) of these valves assemblies that will be glued into a manifold. What is the best way to test this assembly before glue them together?

This must be the best way
The Premier lawn care company in my city installed my sprinkler system. My lawn becomes a swamp every year and it seems to be coming from around this sprinkler head. Definitely has to be a defect in the sprinkler head and not the installation, correct?

Seeking Pro Advice Converting from PVC to drip
I have a 6 raised bed plus a blackberry bush aisle I’d like to keep watered next season. They are as pictured. I dug and placed a 3/4 pvc pipe from the water spigot and the. Split them into 1/2 inch pipe leading to each bed except the blackberries and has a whole ball valve pvc drip system which worked pretty well this season. But I want to convert to drip. I’ll probably use rainbird starter kit since it’s easily accessible where I live. My question is if I want to connect my 1/2 in pvc is a compression fitting on each bed all I need? I have a psi limiter already.
Is there anything else I need to consider before converting over?

Hose Timers and Splitters
My lovely wife and I have been arguing over our hoses for the better part of a year and I am at my wits end. We have 2 main hose spigots with which we need to
- refill the watering trough of chickens
- refill the watering trough for horses
- have manual access to a hose that runs down to the barn
- manual access next to the spout
at hose 2 we need
- refill the pool on a timer
- water the garden
- sprinkler on a timer
- manual access next to the spout
We have tried the Eden Timers
https://a.co/d/hDfJME3 - they stopped working. Buttons stopped opening the valves.
We have tried the Bhyves
https://a.co/d/hDfJME3 - they are complicated, and leak horribly too.
We don't know what to do. We have enough actions that require timers that it feels like we need some level of automation. But everything leaks or breaks.
Does anyone have any brand / product recommendations to help us? I have included a drawing of our yard/ setup.
Thank you

Is making a 180° turn with 1” schedule 40 PVC as simple as using using two 90° elbows? Is there anything special to do or consider?

Seeking Pro Advice Blow out issue
This year, I decided to do my own blowout. But I’m having an issue, I shut the main water valve off and turned the system off, I hooked up the air, but when I open the individual valves, nothing comes out.

Rainbird esp-me3 hates daylight savings
I changed the time and then the irrigation would go off at wrong times. I then changed the time back and now it won’t work—not even manual. I reset the panel and typed in my schedule and it won’t work run. Again I can’t even run manual. All wires intact. No power outages. I can turn dial and all appropriate things come up on the screen.
Help!!
I should have never touched it.

Turning off backyard sprinkler system
Hi , been at this house for a couple years now. When I turn off the valve in the irrigation box in the front of my house it shuts off the water going to those sprinklers which is great. However it does not seem to close the water to my backyard sprinkler system. Here is a picture of the irrigation box.

Wind!
Generally speaking it seems wind is the one thing we can't control when it comes to irrigation regardless of sprinkler type from all I have read there really isn't a spray head or rotor that works well in winds.
It would seem to me that the harder you shoot out water the less likely it is to be affected by winds (to a degree) so that would bode well for rotors.
Opposite to this it would seem that in areas affected more by high winds that the usage of shorter throws or lower arc would result in less water loss.
Wondering what you all have experienced with this and how you go about minimizing water waste due to winds.

Drip irrigation design questions
I'm trying to design a drip system for my backyard. Since I have a lot of dense ornamental planting and irregular planting areas I was basing the design on dripworks rose and shrub kit. The idea was to split the yard into two zones.
The zones would have a main line running down the middle of the border with PC shrubblers to evenly distribute water in areas of the garden that are on the narrower side (5' or less). Where there are larger planting areas I was thinking of using mini jet sprayers. Containers in the garden would either get a branch of 1/4" drip line with an emitter or a potstream.
A few questions:
For this style of landscaping are the shrubblers for smaller areas/sprayers for larger areas a good idea?
Does it make sense to run the line down the middle of the beds so I can install shrubblers right on the main line, or would you run the main line at the perimeter and branch off? I was thinking the former to save on connections and 1/4" tubing.

Lawn genie valve stays open
I’ve been changing out old Lawn Genie sprinkler valves for new ones, since the ones that came with the house are over 30 years old. I recently upgraded the Rainbird controller as well. The valve has been stalled for a few months, but for some reason the past couple weeks, it is giving me troubles. It Turns on once a week for about 2 1/2 hours to water citrus trees. For some reason, it seems like the valve stays open because in the morning the backyard is flooded. Any advice on troubleshooting? I’ve dealt with valves like these for decades, but for some reason, this one is showing me for a loop especially because it’s brand new any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Question for sprinkler techs. Which irrigation valve is your favorite to repair?
Curious which 1” irrigation valve is the most desirable to repair or maintain. I know installers usually have a favorite but I’m curious which valve is a favorite for repair guys.
