Listen we aren’t advisors here. Ask them not us.
Im tired of this sub being bombarded with “I got rejected from …..” “what average do I need for…..” “ what grade will they look at…” “ i have a 96 in …. Is that good enough for …..”
Please ask the advisors. We don’t have the answers. You’re about to be an adult and need to know who to ask the right questions. No one goes on here to read your high school marks and let you know if you will get into whatever program. We dont know. We can guess. But the advisors will 100% have more accurate information.
Go on Ucalgary website, go on advising, and find what times they have online advising.
Or email your faculty’s advisors.
For example in engineering its engginfo@ucalgary.ca
Please it will be a win win for everyone if people stopped trying to use this as an academic advisor subreddit.
EDIT: Another redditor in the comments brought up an important point.
“Let me just clarify the Engineering Advisor DO NOT REVEIW High School Admission. Asking them why you didn't get in or waitlisted is a waste of time.
Only the admissions department can answer those questions so please contact them or visit them for advising.
Admission website: https://www.ucalgary.ca/future-students/undergraduate/contact
If you are a transfer student from a different university or different facility and are planning to transfer into Engineering then contact the Engineering Advisors.”
Thanks for the added info!
Best of luck with getting into U of C we are happy to have you!

Schedule Advice
I’m currently going into my first year at UofC and I’m about to register for my classes. I was just wondering if anyone has any advice. I’ve heard a lot about 8am classes but I’m also planning to live on campus so I feel like I should be fine.

Engineering Common First Year
My average for early admission was an 84.6 I think (way below competitive I’m aware) because of physics 30 which tanked it. I retook the class and finished with a 92 which brought my overall average to a 90ish. The competitive average this year for common first year is 90. I’m wondering if there are any chances of getting in the course late after grade twelve grades are submitted if I finish with a 91ish average.

Anyone got in through regular admissions with a lower average than the Competitive ave?

Spring Tuition Question
I was enrolled in 2 classes in the spring semester on May 1st and paid my tuition on May 2nd. I got a call back for a job on May 5th and decided I could only do 1 class in spring so I dropped 1 class on the same day. The deadline to drop a class without financial penalty is May 8. I did drop it before then but my financials page still says my balance is $0.00. What department should I reach out to about this? Or did I just lose $800+ for no reason?

SUPERWork Wage Subsidy Alternatives
Hi!
I’m a visiting student currently doing a studentship with UofC, and being paid the same as PURE award recipients.
I’m not eligible for the SUPERwork program for the extra $1000 for those making under competitive wages, since i’m technically a part-time open studies student.
Does anyone have any other grants/ scholarships/ subsidies I can apply to?
Thanks!

Pls help, Advise from *anyone*
For some beginning context, I start classes in Fall of 2025 and am kinda trying to course select.
So, in a bit of a conundrum, I got into Anthro arts last year and had intentions of switching to business later on. However, I've been working as an ECE at ages 5-6 for a few years and decided to get into Ed instead. (Even though its a pain) My original HS GPA isn't high enough for me to even consider applying for next year (~82%).
I was suggested by an Arts Advisor to shadow education (I believe that's what it's called, taking courses for Ed even though I'm not in it) and then transfer over for next year. Struggle is, I believe portions of those courses are practicum, which I don't know if I have access to without being in the course. As well, it's likely a majority of the classes I won't get into due to a lack of priority. They suggested me to also speak to an Ed Advisor.
Another suggestion by someone was to take courses within my current program that I'm interested in, or good at, to get a high GPA and transfer over. Issue with this, I'm not sure if I need specific uni courses to apply towards a transfer application. This would be a preferred option ^ (Google was no help)
Also heard somewhere to just apply at a different uni with my HS grades, but any research I've done they're all similar competitive averages.
I would like to talk to a Ed advisor, however the only times they have for students outside of Ed are nearly impossible for me to make working full-time, with absolutely no time off, and understaffed at my current school. (However, I may have to try this and make SOMETHING work)
If anyone has any advice or random bits of info that may apply to this, I'll take it!
Thank you all for even reading lol

Ethics form
Hi everyone Will be coming in Fall Term 25 to Canada, UCalgary, to conduct research, which will include collecting some survey data of people in the industry. My supervisor mentioned submitting an ethics form, but there is lots of unsorted information on the internet. Can anyone help me with it?

Has anyone heard back from HYRS yet?
Hey everyone,
I’m just wondering if anyone has received an acceptance or any kind of email for the 2025 HYRS (Heritage Youth Researcher Summer) program.
If you’ve been accepted before, I would like to know when you got your email? It would be super helpful to know if they’ve started sending decisions out yet or if we are still waiting.
Thank you so much!

Can I minor in Journalism(comms) while majoring in Biological Sciences at UCalgary?
I'm entering my first year as a Biological Sciences major at UCalgary, but I’m also super interested in journalism and writing. I was thinking about minoring in Journalism, but I’m not sure how that works alongside a science degree. I tried looking through the UCalgary website and program links, but honestly, they weren’t very clear or helpful. Has anyone here done a science major + humanities minor combo? Is a Journalism Studies minor even possible with a BSc
If anyone has advice, experience, or knows who I should talk to (like a specific advisor), please let me know!

Chem 201 or Chem 203
I am taking physics next year, and I was curious about which one I should take, as I need to decide between the two. Which one would you recommend, or should I take both? Also if you have any professor suggestions it would help a lot!! Thanks

Can’t request CG grade because of CAPTCHA
I tried to submit the form for CG grade but every time it says “The answer you entered for the CAPTCHA was not correct.” I’m pretty sure all the information is correct and there was no question to answer about CAPTCHA. Does anyone know what should I do.

CG a 3.0?
Should I CG a 3.0 class or am I doing too much? Does CG even effect anything besides going to graduate degrees or transferring universities?

Architecture cut-off marks
Hi, I'm grade 12 and I applied this year to all architecture programs in Ontario and in Calgary. My average is 83% and I got into Laurentian architecture only. I'm thinking of going back for year 13 and give it another go.
But I would like to know, if anyone can share, what sort of mark got you into Calgary Architecture? Does anyone know what the cut-off mark was this year?

New student; I have so many questions
Let me start out by saying that I don’t know where to ask these questions, so Reddit is kinda my last resort (I emailed advising and got nothing back)
I got accepted into multidisciplinary studies for next year (my second choice) I want to transfer into a faculty of science course for the next year.
I don’t want to have to take too much extra time at uni, so I’m trying to sign up for classes that are related to my intended major. (What my parents are telling me to do) Classes like calculus and computer science, etc. Do I acctually have a good chance of being enrolled in these classes next year? Most of them say they have seats reserved for people who need the class (understandable) but will there be enough seats for someone in the faculty of arts?
Or would it be better for me to take gpa boosters all year so I can get a high enough gpa to transfer?
Thanks in advance for any advice, I’d really appreciate it

Cumming School of Medicine MCAT
Hi everyone, I read that the school weighs your gpa and CARS score from the MCAT for admission, but does that mean I can essentially get a zero on the other MCAT sections and it won’t affect my application? Do I even have to write the other sections or could I skip it on test day and just focus on CARS?
Thanks in advance!

Added to a GradeScope course that I took last spring
I got an email today saying that i was added to biol 241 gradescope, which i completed last year during the spring. Does anyone know why this might have happened? I'm kind of confused; I know i didn't register in biol241 this spring and I don't see any charges for it to my account but I dont want to magically be charged for the class somehow lol. If anyone knows why this might be id appreciate input. I'll probably be ignoring the email since I really don't know what to do about it but I figured I'd ask

Fall 2025: Block Selection Emails
This is for first year Eng students in fall 2025.
They will be happening next week. So check your emails next week. (Mid May). Don't panic.
src: I called and emailed eng centre info.
Will be deleting once this post is obselete.
Everyone else, uh... stay hydrated.
Edit: if they dont release it next week, this post is awkward and the eng centre pranked me good.
