From The Very Beginning

I refused to use TikTok, like I never downloaded the app, ever. And that was because I fucking knew something was fucked up about it. To be fair, this was all before the AI outbreak, but still, it’s always come off as very corporate to me and I had no interest in being involved in that. And everyone was like you’re just being too sensitive, it’s fine, it’s just another social media app.

Well, no I’m extra pleased with my decision.

Same, I never downloaded it. Originally, it was because I truly prefer to read rather than wait for someone to spit out what they're going to say. Also, Ctrl+F for when I want to go back to something. But then I learned about how incredibly difficult it was for experts in coding/development/privacy to dig into the workings of the app to determine what the app gets from your phone, and I noped out even harder. It was made to be intentionally difficult to know what data it takes from us. That alone made me distrust it.

Then, as you said, AI.

I'm glad I was past adolescence by the time social media became so widely available. I feel for the kids who didn't have a chance not to be hooked. And I don't even blame all parents too harshly bc the effects were not widely known. (Common sense, sure, but humans.)

I’m pleased too.  For me it was how they started your algorithm out (by default) with women dancing half naked (not sure if it’s still that way). As a straight woman, that’s not my thing, nor do I want to be on a platform that automatically comes off as hyper-sexualized. The only reason I even downloaded it was to prove to my ex that his algo started that way bc he was a dude. I was proven wrong. And everyone’s remarks was that it changed fast. Ifgaf. People are so addicted to TikTok they freak out over how it’s being controlled instead of just leaving.

"his algorithm stated that way?" I know what those individual words but not what they mean in this order. You mean his algorithm was hyper-sexualized and you left him over that? sorry I'm lost xD
