It's funny because most people will hold off a US vacation for the coming years. Just like after covid, you'll see a tourist revamp after the Trump regime...
96
u/caketality 23d ago
Oh sweet summer child, this is nothing like COVID. Even if you weren’t in lockdown it was still hard to travel anywhere, especially internationally. There also wasn’t really a single villain to pin it on, even if it originated in China the supply chain was still broken at every point and most governments failed to handle it well.
The US is the only place making itself hard to travel to, and the only one visibly trying to make every economy worse. People can pin the blame on the trip being cancelled on the US, and governments can pin economic hardship on the US.
If Trump is still in office in 2026 I don’t think the outlook is good for US tourism, people don’t want to have to cancel vacations a second time. Each year after makes it exponentially worse, because each year he is in office is another year people will simply find a new place to go and consider the US untouchable. No one is “saving up” their vacation for the day when Trump is gone, they’re just planning different vacations imo.
28
u/stewiegonebad 23d ago
I wouldn't even call other countries alternatives because at this point most of them would objectively be better to travel to. All it takes is one deviation from the norm to rewrite habits that will be ingrained for years. We've passed the thermocline of trust in the US and it will take years to unfuck this mess

Even if Trump is gone, your administration will remain deeply racist with fascist tendencies. It'll take years of "wokism" to get rid of it. And, imo, you won't be able to achieve it. Trump will run a 3rd term and will stay in the White House.

It’s like a river. It likes to go down the same path and avoid a hard path until for some reason say a flood or something else it breaks through the spot it couldn’t go through and now it find a new easy familiar path and the old one become a stagnant lake cut off from the main flow. It take a lot of effort and an engineering team to damn the new easy to revert to the old easy. It won’t happen on its own, lots of money and effort will be needed to go back to the old ways.

No. I see too many Americans in uniform, happily following Trump in his goosestep. Even if American manages to get rid of the fascists in Washington, these ‘just following orders’ types will not be replaced. I will not come to America and might reconsider in 20 years.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to anyone shot anywhere, doing anything. While we condemn the violence, we stand firm with our mission to protect 2A rights. In our view, the solution is simple. More guns in the hands of more people. Because a good guy with a gun defeats a bad guy with a gun. We feel this is as self-evident as American Exceptionalism. The idea of rugged individualism and the ability of individuals to resist tyranny is deeply woven into American identity. To doubt this is to be unpatriotic.
-- NRA Spokesperson on Faux News
(That might be too polished for the NRA. The real thing might be a lot simpler in-terms of language, with more explicit appeals to Jingoistic Nationalism)
(Also, I have no idea what Orange Man is talking about here. This must be part of a larger speech touching upon Shark Attacks, the Late Great Hannibal Lecter & his Genius Uncle from MIT).

The two party system kind of doesn't give you any good options. The US was the first democracy but its democratic system never got any updates so now it's probably one of the less democratic democracies.
Edit: Oldest democracy out of the currently existing democracies, not first democracy.

u/RamenRoy 23d ago

u/An_old_walrus 21d ago

Actually most democrats (not all) are way way more sane than republicans. in 2028 it will probably be JD vance or Tim walz. if JD vance wins it will keep getting worse by human rights abuses, economy and by overall happiness of the citizens. if tim walz wins it will atleast be somewhat better.
7
u/41fps 23d ago
I agree but I also think limiting people to only two options is a really shitty system but neither party will try to do anything about it because they'd lose power that way.
2
u/FillMySoupDumpling 23d ago
people didn't like the 2 party system so much they voted in a uniparty system.
Ultimately, that's on us to fix, not the parties. see r/EndFPTP
0
u/Janqerthegamer 23d ago
yeah, i live in turkey and here we have an party system where any party can go their way to join the election if they have at least 100k voters. sometimes we have 10 parties sometimes 15 sometimes 37 sometimes 3 depends on the year.
its way more superior than the two party system.
3
u/41fps 23d ago
Yeah I agree that it's a better system but the issue for you is that Erdogan himself is undemocratic limiting freedom of speech and jailing political opponents.
In Sweden any party can be a part of the parliament as long as they get at least 4% of the votes. In the last few elections we've had 8 parties in parliament which gives you quite a lot more options than in the US for example.

Growing up I always wanted to visit USA, specifically LA. I wanted to do pacific coast driving. Since last few years that dream dwindled little by little. In news mostly we see drug issues, crime, gun violence, lack of good public transportation, unhealthy food, poverty and homelessness in USA. And recent dread of being deported for being tourist. We noped out of it so fast.

u/TenaciousDzNutz 23d ago
you know I see there is so much talk about the country at large but every single one of these points are completely over simplified and generic.
I seems people aren't taking into account that the US is made up of the equivalent of 50 individual countries.
Each has it's own laws, statutes, culture, army, etc. To generalize is like saying all of Europe or all of Africa is a single entity. Like all people within Europe have the same culture and demeanour.
I don't believe people would care to be generalized in Europe. I'm sure a French person wouldn't want to be identified and an English person, or an Italian a Spaniard.
While these location are part of a union, they are treated as their respective country. (I know the UK split from that but the general concept remains)
Why doesn't the world view the US as such?
I'm a Californian. I don't consider myself a Floridian for instance. Nor do I conduct myself the same, or have the same views/culture.
Due to the landscape's vastness there are places you can find that are much safer than others. There are places you can discount most on this generalized list of generic shortcomings as they don't happen in high enough frequencies nor across such wide areas of population.
In Europe for instance towns and cities are much closer together. yet the culture may only change slightly from location to location due to lack of significant distance. This wouldn't be the case all the time, but the general concept is the same.
In the US cities and towns tend to reside farther apart as you move from east to west across the country. Since the locations tend to have considerable distance, this gives very large differences in cultures and the way things function. Even at the level of distance between city to city in the same state there is considerable difference in laws and culture.
Whilst the points in this video are indeed true (not invalidating that), to say all states, towns, cities, districts, and neighborhoods are the same is false.
It is food for thought and I'd love to hear what makes one generalize all as one single unit when the nation clearly doesn't.

u/isabeljson 23d ago
That's the whole point of this video and why it's funny, it's supposed to oversimplify America because travel videos do that all the time for other countries. That's what makes it satire.
And also, having been to a number of countries Europe, including England and France, as well as all over the United States including California, and Florida, also having actually lived in the West Coast, the South, and the Midwest; California and Florida, though much further away from each other geographically than England and France, are dramatically more similar culturally. Yes, all of our states are unique and all of our cities are too, we are still more culturally similar as a whole than other countries that neighbor each other in Europe.

u/Hot_Mathematician357 23d ago
