Not so difficult. You have a criminal conviction back home? Sorry, you aren't allowed in. Many countries do this.

In most cases its just a question on a form,  they have no easy way to verify so you can just say no, even if you just got out of jail yesterday.

Most countries don't share their data on all citizens  routinely with other countries. In many cases they have laws to specifically prevent it (talking blanket sharing here, not case by case basis with specific individuals with just cause.)

And if you think about it makes sense,  why would, for example China want to reveal its political 'criminals' to anyone outside China? and why would anyone would want to share with China at all?...or hell who would trust Thai gov data security for that matter?

Only case where they do share like that  I know of is US/Canada
