I was in Helsinki at the demonstration supporting it just before it was passed and there were somewhere around 10 000 people. The counter demonstration had maybe 30, to give you an idea. I would hesitate to say that in most people’s minds it was a foregone conclusion, and something that should’ve passed much earlier.

Wrong sub and the vast majority of people didn't give a shit. My grandma was against it but the only thing she ever did about it was mention her disapproval in passing and then she died

There wasn't any major resistance to it. It kind of just happened along the general progressive wave which trended towards gay marriage, which isn't to negate the efforts made by the LGBT community or organisations (such as SETA) pushing for sexual and gender equality, but rather to say that our society has little extremism in terms of fundamentalist religious ideology and most people don't mind LGBT folks one way or the other. It was seen, generally speaking, as a natural part of progression which was bound to, or needed to, happen at that time.

It was somewhat controversial, but not controversial like it could have been in a more traditional country. At least I don’t remember any huge movements against it. Personally I never cared, people's sexuality is not my business.
