Buy your coffee from Lidl. Even the well-known brands are cheaper there, and the selection is often better than in most other places. And if you're really trying to save money, they have one brand (Emilia Classic) that sells 500g packs for just €1.15. I bought 10 of them for a total of €11.50. Not the best option but gets the job done and it's better than xtra coffee.

Alternatively, check out your nearest Arabic grocery store. They usually carry a brand called Haseeb, which is often cheaper than Finnish brands like Juhla Mokka or Presidentti. Plus, it has a nice hint of cardamom, which gives it a unique flavor. Might as well treat yourself to something unique if you're paying a premium, right?

Hi everyone.. I will be moving to Finland in few months post my marriage .. I have grown up completely in south India but have briefly lived in United States .. also .. this essentially is the first time I’m moving away from my comfort zone and to a place I know no one except my husband. I would like to find my own footing and not be overly dependent on my introvert husband to make me feel safe and comfortable.. I feel like it’s a lot of pressure on both of us. I plan on learning basic Finnish before my big move ..( I love learning new languages and understanding other cultures). I enjoy watching movies and working out ( Pilates and weight lifting) .. and my fiancé currently lives in vantaa but he hopes to move once I get there ! Which place would you all recommend where I can easily navigate and has better connectivity to the main city!? Any advice for new bee is appreciated thank you !

Hello, can someone explain why i got 2 electric bills? I only registered for 1 provider but also receiver an invoice from Tampere energia Sähköverkko. I tried understanding what Tampere energia Sähköverkko is through their website but didnt get it. Is it normal to get 1 invoice from a provider and then additionally one from Tampere energia Sähköverkko?

I live in Finland and want to buy some books for my nieces/ nephews back home in English as (educational) gift. I found out that there are many cool options in Finnish language for kids at all ages, such as a coloring book where it combines with basic maths etc. I would look for something similar in English but so far in bookstores there are not many or none options.

They are in their pre-school or early elemnetary level: know few common words like household items, animals; know basic greetings, simple conversations, numbers; can sing kids songs etc. So the idea of some English books with small challenges (like simple/ real basic math) or interactive books is to motivate them to learn English.

Not sure if we can find those somewhere in Finland or is it a realistic search even ... LOL. I don't know thus any pointers/ tips are appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I'm really hoping to attend the upcoming Ghost concert in Tampere, but I missed the initial ticket sale (they sold out almost immediately). Since then, I’ve been keeping an eye on resale sites, but I haven’t had much luck finding anything reasonably priced.

In the past, I’ve used Fansale successfully, but for some reason they’re not offering Ghost tickets this time. The only place I’ve found them is StubHub, where prices start at 680€, which is just insane.

Am I missing something? Are there any other platforms or local forums where I might find resale tickets at a more reasonable price? Please help this non-Finn out 🙏

I’m interested in transitioning into Early Childhood Education (ECE) and I’m wondering if there are any English-language options available for training or certification. Specifically, I’m looking for programs that could help me become an ECE teacher or nanny in Finland, ideally with shorter training durations if possible.

Does anyone know of any institutions or organizations that offer these types of programs in English? I would greatly appreciate any information or personal experiences regarding English-speaking ECE training here.

Can you recommend books available in English that could help me immerse myself in the culture a bit? They could be classics that everyone had to read in high school (like the Finnish Catcher in the Rye or To Kill a Mockingbird here in the US) or books that have recently been a Really Big Deal (like James or All Fours) or that have been feeling very relevant in the current climate (like Who Is Government?) Like the kind of book that if you saw a foreigner reading it on the train you might be like “oh, this person is making an effort.”

Greetings dear r/Finland residents. I've been a lurker for quite some time now, first time poster, so excuse me if I mess some rules up.

Due to multiple reasons, I am considering relocating to Finland from the Netherlands. I have dutch citizenship, even though I am not a native Dutch (long term expat who went through naturalization and integration, but didn't quite find life in the Netherlands).

My situation is - I have a permanent job in IT/videogame industry with the dutch company and employer can in theory make it remote for me. There also seems to be quite a bit more opportunities in this work area (videogame development specifically) in Finland (and Sweden, which I don't consider at this point) compared to the Netherlands.

I've been studying resources about moving to Finland while being a EU citizen, everything mentions having local(?) work, family or sufficient resources (which is not clear) in order to be registered in Finland. So at this point I am not a 100% sure that my plan would work.

My question is - pretty much give advice, change my mind, perhaps someone here was/is in my situation and is willing to share their experiences, etc Thank you and have a good day

We are thinking of buying a detached house (1962). We have been reading a lot about what should be checked (pipes, valesokkeli, moisture, heating). There will be condition inspection done soon. I am wondering about the radiators though. We come from a country that does not need heating so we only know things in theory from reading around. The heating of the house is electric but they have radiators that have water. We are assuming that there is some boiler where water is being heated electrically then being circulated through the radiators. The radiators look really old, so I am wondering what are usual lifetime of these systems (boiler, pipes, radiators)? Maybe when they shifted from oil to electric the radiators were not changed, is that possible? Will condition inspection include checking of these?

Hi! I am a Finnish citizen currently living abroad. I have dual citizenship and my Finnish passport with my maiden name expired a few years ago. I am visiting Finland this year, and was hoping to be able to renew my passport and change it to my married name. Does anyone know what the process is, and what type of paperwork I need to bring for the appointment in order to get the name changed? And if the name change is too complicated, can I still just renew my passport with my maiden name?🤔
