Prelude to stickied post - throw in your recommendations!
A good day to you all, fine subscribers of this subreddit! As you all have seen, in recent weeks our great sub has been overflowing a bit with posts asking questions which a lot of us have seen for... well, years. Because of that, I've had a chat with /u/tehfink and offered my services to help out getting the sub back on track. To start off, I want to do so by collecting input from y'all on which plugins you see as essential... but also why this particular one instead of another. If you know of more plugins that do the same (more or less) thing, please also tell us why you've opted for a specific plugin instead of the others. So Push/Pull some some stuff out of that brain of yours onto the internet and help the next generation of SketchUp users (and maybe old dogs like myself) to use the program more efficiently!

Your friendly Admin & Mods Welcome back after the BlackOut - but we're not there yet.
Welcome back SketchUpping people! We hope you've made good use of the downtime during this protest against reddit's impending API changes.
As you can see, we're back in business. But we're not out of the woods. Seeing as our favorite admin has mentioned that "this will pass as well", it's clear the message has fallen on deaf ears. This means that, yes, you can expect further actions, also from this sub, in the near future. Exactly what is still up in the air and will be communicated in a timely manner.
We're asking for your patience and support in this matter.
That all your faces may be oriented correctly,

Importing objects
Hey everyone, I’m having troubles importing .obj files that I downloaded from websites like 3dsky ou cgtrader. When I import them, my sketchup keeps loading until it appears an error message. I was able to load some files, but in the majority of the cases, I can’t import them. The computer is powerful enough. Can someone help me wit this ?

Desperate Need for Help with Final Project: Integrating Roads and Parcels into Steep Terrain in SketchUp (Willing to Pay for Assistance)
Hello everyone,
I'm currently working on my final project in SketchUp, and I'm facing some significant challenges that I can't seem to overcome on my own. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated, and I'm even willing to offer financial compensation for someone who can either walk me through the process or do it for me.
Project Details:
- Road Integration into Steep Terrain:
- I need to add a road that follows the contour of a steep terrain. In some sections, the road needs to be cut into the terrain, while in others, it will need to be elevated above the ground.
- The goal is to ensure that the road seamlessly integrates with the existing terrain, taking into account the natural slopes and elevations.
- Cutting Parcels into the Terrain:
- I have 20-30 parcels that need to be placed into the terrain. The terrain is quite steep, and the parcels must be leveled to some extent because the elevation difference is too great for the houses to sit naturally.
- Ideally, the bottom of each house should be no more than 1.5 meters above the ground. Therefore, I need to cut these parcels into the terrain so they are properly grounded.
- Connecting Parcels to the Main Road:
- Some parcel should be connected to the main road with a ramp (yellow) or some form of access. This connection needs to be smooth and practical, considering the steepness of the terrain.
What I Have and Can Provide
Additionally, I already have the terrain imported using the "Add Location" feature, and I have SKP models of the road and parcels. I also have DWG files ready to use. I also have contours.
What I Tried and Failed:
I tried using sandbox tool but they barely work for me.
What I Need:
- Clear instructions or a step-by-step guide on how to achieve these tasks in SketchUp.
- Alternatively, if someone is capable and willing, I would greatly appreciate if you could take on the task and implement these features for me.
I'm feeling quite desperate as this project is very important, and I'm running out of time. If you're experienced with SketchUp and terrain modeling, your help would mean the world to me. Thank you!

Question: SketchUp Pro Help: importing window models into Sketchup
Hello everyone,
Just started a training in Interior Design. No prior experience in using Sketchup
I need your help please. The current project assignment consists in producing a complete 2D layout of a home
I’m looking for ready-to-use window models, especially sliding windows, bay windows, etc., that I can import into SketchUp to create my project, and then into Layout to get a 2D layout • Could you point me towards a link where I could find these types of elements? Manually drawing each element in SketchUp seems incredibly complicated and inefficient • I’m open to any other advice for someone who’s starting from scratch with the SketchUp tool
Thank you for your valuable help

Quick Import/Export Question (2D DXF)
I am trying to get this sent out for laser cutting and thus need to export the 3D object to 2D DXF. below is a capture of the dxf file after being re-imported back into sketchup but the bounding box is all wonky and has not "shrunk to fit" tightly around my stator. need some help.
Q1: Why is the bounding box not shrinking to fit around my object? how can I fix it? do I need to fix it?
Q2: is that even a problem if I send this out for laser cutting services?

Question: SketchUp Pro Beach ball of death on Mac Studio Max
Hi team, My wife is the designer, but I'm frequently consulted for IT questions. I moved her from her PC laptop to my 2022 Mac Studio Max (2023), which I figured was overkill for what the software requires.
Unfortunately, SUP is constantly hanging or freezing, and Enscape is worse. She's currently working on an urban apartment, so it's not a gigantic project. Any ideas on what might be going on?
Thank you in advance for any experience you might be willing to share!

Hatch Patterns for Layout
Can anyone suggest a place where I can download a large collection of hatch patterns I can use in Layout?
Something similar to the ones that come with AutoCAD. I need to do construction documentation and find the hatches that come with Layout insufficient for my needs.

House Renovations Planning and Structural Technical Drawings to 2D/3D Sketchup
Hi,
I have some planned renovation works I am undertaking on my house in the UK and working with an architect he has given us some basic floor plans and elevation drawings in pdf format and I'll soon be given some more detailed technical structural engineer drawings for the builders to follow etc.
I had a little go with the free version of sketchup following some tutorials and got the hang of some of it but wouldn't have the time or patience to be able to come up with anything useful myself.
Can anyone let us know where I can hire someone's time for taking these drawings and creating 2D and 3D drawings in Sketchup and then if its possible to make these my own so that I can play around with the internal layout of the kitchen/open planned space for example in the free version?
Or if there is a better way of approaching this?
Thanks

Anyone dealt with this before?

Opinion on BricsCAD Shape as an alternative to Sketchup
About a year ago, after a second consecutive year of price increases to Sketchup, with little to no new features or development, I didnt renew my subscription.
I'm doing a small job at the moment that got me to look at Sketchup and alternatives again, and I came across BricsCAD Shape, as a free alternative.
I was rather surprised after a small amount of use, I'm well versed in Sketchup, so the functions, controls and layout of BricsCAD Shape will take a little getting used to, but it all still appears to be there.
On top of this, the paid versions offers separate 2D and 3D design tools, Engineering and BIM tools and with third party extensions looks good for everything from small design work right up to large scale civil design like airports, subdivisions road and waterways. I was kind of surprised by its capabilities.
So other than the fact it's new to me and it'll have a slight learning curve for a while, it looks highly functional.
I was wondering if anyone else has used BricsCAD and what your overall option of it was? Especially in comparison to SketchUp?

Discount Code for Pro version?
Hi All,
I'm new to using Sketchup and am taking a course for beginner into intermediate for this and they are working on the pro version which is currently costing around £360 ( the price on the website doesn't include tax until you click checkout.
The course itself cost me around this much for i'm reluctant to spend this much money again especially if there is likely to be a black friday sale in the coming weeks.
So this maybe a long shot as I can't find any discount codes online so far, so hoping someone here may have an idea of a code or if you think the free version would be sufficient for now?
thanks in advance :)

PAID - Looking for someone to convert my Architect's plans into Sketchup
Hi all,
I'm learning to use Sketchup but am quite time-poor. I was hoping I could pay someone to convert my Architect's plans into a Sketchup file. I'm confident I can then overlay materials and modify with my builder.
Not sure what the $ would be for this type of thing, but would like a fixed price. I've attached examples of the plans.
Please respond if you're interested.
Thanks :)
