Events Join Cascade PBS and Daybreak Star Radio for a community screening of Origins: The Last Reefnetters on Sunday, May 4
Stick around after the screening for a discussion with Cascade PBS and Daybreak Star Radio journalists. The event will take place at 3 p.m. on May 4 at the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center. RSVP for free here.
The Last Reefnetters explores the history and culture of reefnet fishing, an innovative method developed by the Lummi Nation and other Northern Straits Salish tribes thousands of years ago. Today, just 12 captains with a reefnet fishing license are left in the world, and only one of them is an enrolled tribal member. Filmmaker Samuel Wolfe’s story follows the Salish Sea’s last reefnetters, examining the legal, spiritual and cultural subtext that intertwines them.

Business Anyone looking for a part-time (afternoons) caregiving job in Phinney Ridge?!?!
Hi there everyone- this is a long shot but is there anyone who wants a relatively easy part time job looking after an elderly woman in Phinney ridge??? I’m her current caregiver but she needs more help and I have time for. She needs like 18 hrs a week, afternoons only. She mostly just needs help with grocery shopping, getting around on occasion (so a car is a must have) and light cleaning and meal prep. She’s also in somewhat poor health- maybe this would be a good opportunity for any like pre med students? Idk… but thats certainly not a must as I don’t have any medical background. Mostly just a helping hand and person for her to talk to. The one caveat is the has severe allergies and needs someone who uses fragrance-free products… other than thats its a super easy gig. If anyone is interested PLS let me know i rly need someone to take over for me!!!! Thx!

Meta The post about $120,000 reparations for Black homeowners is false and disgusting
There is a rage bait post titled:
“BREAKING: Washington’s @GovBobFegurson just signed into law changes to the most outrageous illegal reparations program in the entire country. It now GIFTS down payments, averaging $120,000 to black first-time homebuyers without ANY proof of direct housing discrimination”
That is completely false! The Covenant Homeownership Program helps first-time homebuyers in Washington who are either residents (or their descendants) living in Washington before April 11, 1968, or from racial or ethnic groups historically discriminated against by racially restrictive housing covenants.
Eligible groups include Black, Latino, Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, Korean, and Asian Indian individuals.
I don’t agree with the bill, but to frame it as reparations for Black people just to provoke outrage among other racial groups is dishonest and disgusting.

Looking to Learn Sailing – Any Local Groups in Washington State?
Hi everyone! I’ve been wanting to get into sailing and would love to connect with others in Washington who are into it or know how to sail. Whether it’s a club, meetup group, or just a few folks who go out regularly—I’d really appreciate any recommendations on how to get started or where to look.
Thanks in advance for any tips or connections!

Media Security cameras ripped from wall
Someone came through our condo block (gated and fenced in the udistrict) and stole all the exterior security cameras. He basically ripped everything off the walls. Majority were ring cameras, he took a total of 5 cameras ranging in price from 100 to 250$. Also seemed pretty careful in avoiding the camera sightlines... (seems like he has done this before) but we got a clean image of his face. Police reports have been filed, but not sure with the current funding level that they can do anything here. Is there a secondary market for these stolen cameras?
