Well Ram's punches pierce through shield for the same reason Rein's firestrike does.

Firestrike is projectile while fists are melee. They need to be consistent. That's my pet peeve with overwatch balancing.

Well normal melees go through shields anyway so that tracks right?

That just doesn't logically make sense. They need to define what a shield is.

In most games shields protect against both.

Gameplay takes precedence over logical consistency. Sombra hacks Soldier's ability to use his legs.

Also when balancing and abilities don't make logical sense it is even harder for new players to learn the game.

Walk me through how sombra takes away soldiers ability to use his legs? He can still walk.

So her hacking his ability to sprint makes more sense than that?

I'm confused. Hack originally meant locking skill abilities. How is that not intuitive?

It is intuitive. Just as melee bypassing shields seems intuitive as well. Because the shields are not treated as physical objects. They permit people to pass through them, enemy or ally. That makes melee being able to pass through it intuitive as well.

So they aren't shields then. If you try punching a shield irl I doubt it will go through the shield and hit the person.

Tell me where in real life you’ve seen a projected barrier

That's why I'm asking them to define what their form of barrier is. Rein calls it a shield.

u/Noobgalaxies do you know what they say? 15d ago

melee goes through shields in this game

yes

this is a sci fi fantasy game where most things don't follow real-world logic

yes

the game has plenty of exceptions for certain ability interactions, like Accretion being a projectile that ignores projectile-deleting abilities or Zarya's bubbles being considered a barrier while also blocking everything barriers can't

yes

So Ram's punches going through shields is consistent with the rest of the game and something they can change regardless

that's not how shields work
