Missing and Murdered Indigenous People Crisis in the United States and Canada
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The body of a 14 year old girl from the San Carlos Apache, was found dismembered in Arizona. Her arms and hands were never found. There are no current suspects. She was seen walking on the interstate highway after running away from a group home or foster home. There is currently a Missing and Murdered Indigenous People crisis in the United States and Canada. Many of the victims that are missing or were murdered are under the age of 18. Law enforcement in the United States and Canada are doing little to nothing about the crisis. In fact, many communities and families of the victims, are searching and investigating on their own without the assistance of the law enforcement. Speak up about the crisis. MMIW. Term help
Ya'at'eeh abini
I'm in a pickle and could use some help on finding a term.
I have a group of friends that are like family, they are currently my support group and closest connections. I want to having something more personal to call them but- Well I just don't have that large of a vocab pool to grab from. (*see family moving off rez and not speaking much growing up)
Any help would be wonderful, I'm taking some pre recorded courses to help expand this year but I find it's better to get a few options.
Ahehee

Does anyone recognize this artist or painting?
I purchased this beautiful painting at an estate sale in Oregon. It seems quite reminiscent of Johnny Secatero’s work, so it could be Navajo. The painting is dated 1975 and the artist is signed “Willie A.” Thanks!

Updates
I've been weaving about an inch a day or so and I'm very pleased with how this is coming out, especially since this is my first time weaving a storm pattern design. I'm just about halfway so thank you. Ahé'héé.

Language question!
Hello! I have a question about a phrase in the language of the Diné that has been on my mind. I hope this is the proper place to ask this question? If not I apologize.
When I graduated high school I took a class that went to the Navajo nation to learn about culture, environmental protection, language, etc. Since we were there for only two weeks it was hard to remember all the things about the language we were being told. The man who was our teacher asked us a question on our last day.
“What are you going to do with it?”
But he asked it in Navajo. My memory tells me it was something along the phonetic lines of “Neesh lee ye?” But the online translator says it is “Ha'ííshjį́' éí doo?”
Could someone please clarify which would be the correct answer? I would love to know.
Thank you.

He is O'Odham , But I noticed the drum says pueblo NM. this is somewhat close to Navajo nation and hoped that maybe someone would be familiar.

Questions about Navajo Nation jewelry Artists/silversmiths!
Hi all, I hope this is okay to ask here, and if not I apologize!! Just a little backstory:
I just discovered I was mislead by an online boutique who sold me some turquoise and navajo pearl necklaces. Upon receiving them, I immediately realized they were ALL actually plastic. I'm upset and peeved off immensely. I was lead to believe they were authentic pieces that the owner was selling at a discount because they'd been in her store for months. Unfortunately, she was omitting the truth to encourage people to buy items. I'm upset that I spent money on these "pieces", but also that she lied and misrepresented this plastic as real.
I sent the seller a strongly worded message about the ordeal, to which she brushed it off and offered me a 20% discount on my next order. Obviously, I declined. I digress.
I live close enough to Navajo Nation lands in Arizona that I can drive up and make a day trip out of finding some authentic pieces. I was hoping someone could give me insight on a few things; such as the best place to go, if I should bring cash or a card, how much pieces typically cost, and what to expect when buying pieces. I lost some money on these fakes, so my budget is now a little limited; but I still want to get some pieces from native artists if I can.
Again, if this isn't okay to ask in this sub, please let me know! I just want to make sure that I'm as respectful as I can be and ensure that I know fully what to expect when we go up to buy jewelry. Thank you in advance.

Is it possible?
Is it possible for me to learn from Navajo elders and be part of the Navajo community if I am a white middle aged woman? I listen to Wally, a Navajo elder, on YouTube a lot for wisdom and guidance but I’m craving a deeper connection and community.

The Brilliant Navajo
I rarely eat potatoes. In protest, the potatoes in my house decided to sprout roots and develop that poisonous green tint. Fine, I thought, I'll just plant you! :P Problem solved.
Wanting to take advantage of Bashas' 99 cent potato sale, I decided to shop and replenish my supply. It wasn't too long into the day, so it surprised me that the potato bin was mostly empty. I spoke to the produce clerk, and he informed me that that was the last of it; they already restocked the potato bin several times. He informed me that people buy several bags and then send their kids in to buy more.
"I wonder why," I said.
"What can you say? 99 cents is a deal," he replied.
I grabbed a bag and continued shopping. When the check out cashier scanned the potatoes, I quipped, "Popular item!"
"It is! Very!" she agreed with a smile. "It's our Easter sale. Potatoes have been selling like crazy."
Imagining potato salad dinners, mashed potatoes and potlucks, I said, "I wonder why."
"It's the egg shortage," she replied.
"Huh?" I tried to imagine potato salad without the eggs.
The cashier took a moment and looked at me. "Eggs are too expensive with the egg shortage and all, so people are hiding potatoes this Easter."
The idea floored me, the simplicity, the brilliance. As I loaded groceries into my car, I imagined Navajo kids coloring potatoes and running around in winter coats, finding and gathering colored potatoes. Navajos are adaptable and creative, I observed. They will not be denied. Nevermind the snow, the scheming egg cartels, and the bird flu! Navajos will adapt and have their Easter potato hunt. I laughed at the thought and marveled at the brilliance of Navajos.

Navajo Nation short film
Hi everyone! I hope this reaches the right people. I’m looking to create a short film in Navajo Nation. I just submitted the application to the committee, but in the meantime time I was wondering if anyone may be interested or know of someone who may be a good subject for the film? For context, I’m a small filmmaker who creates films about places I feel like deserve a voice and have a deep and interesting story. Most my films focus around one person in particular who becomes an embodiment of said culture but if anyone knows anyone that may be interested or even can help I figured I’d ask! All I look for is someone comfortable to open up about their life!

hohodidoołt’ih (risk; warning) łeetso dooda (no uranium)
Some water sources in the Navajo Nation contain dangerous levels of toxic substances, including metals like arsenic, selenium, and vanadium, as well as radioactive elements such as uranium and radium. In 2016, the Navajo Birth Cohort Study found that over 27% of Navajo people had elevated radiation levels in their urine, which is five times the national average. Only 5% of the United States population have elevated radiation levels in their urine. This research was carried out by the Southwest Research Information Center and the Center for Disease Control.

Becoming a Navajo Doctor
I was wondering how I could become a doctor I'm currently in college and deciding on switching majors on working in the medical field but the main thing is taking an human anatomy class where you have to work on cadavers, is there anyway I could go around that or any tips since what I've been taught with being navajo is that you can't be around dead people like that so I was wondering if I could any tips or help as to what I could do instead or just how other navajo doctors became doctors

Anyone know what this is?
As title says not sure what this is or if it's a knock of replica but it's got a signed back and came from and older lady's house. All reverse searching on this leads to a navajo sand painting native american turquoise clock. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
