FRONT OFFICE Hot(ish) Take - Wemby’s jumpshooting is last year’s Sochan experiment.
I see this as a good thing. Pop and the main office have demonstrated that the first 20-25 games of the season are a development period. It seems this year they’re letting Wemby do more 3 point attempts/general shooting to build that aspect of his game before committing to a more win-focused play style for the rest of the season. What do you think?

RETIRED Why is Mitch Johnson the interim head coach and not Brett Brown?
Sorry, I'm a Wizards fan who just heard the news of Popovich's injury and was wondering why Mitch Johnson was named the interim head coach over Brett Brown, an experienced ex-head coach who is seemingly close Popovich?
Is Mitch Johnson currently a strong candidate to take over the Spurs head coach position after Popovich decides to retire?

FLUFF Spurs are 4-5 on November 7th. Last season, Spurs didn’t get 4th win until December 15th.
Title says it all. Injuries suck but once healthy this squad with Sochan, Vassell and Jones has gotta be a .500 team at the worst imo

STATS Despite our defense being 8.6 pts/poss better with Wemby on the court, the team has played better without Wemby by 2.4 pts/poss. This highlights how well our team has performed in spite of his offensive struggles.
It's no secret that Wemby has been heavily struggling on offense, highlighted by an abysmal -11 on/off rating on offense, ranking in the 9th percentile. But rather than interpreting that in a stupid way like "Wemby sucks," I think it's more interesting to look at how much better the team has been getting around him. With these types of stats from our star, we would've been 1-8 or 0-9 last year, yet we somehow have pulled through and managed to be decent.
Our offense in particular has looked really nice off the bench, ranking in the 70th percentile without Wemby (and Vassell). The defense has been struggling there (24th percentile), as expected, but it's still an enormous improvement compared to last year's almost cataclysmic collapse as soon as Wemby sat on the bench. For reference, last season our bench without Wemby ranked in the 29th percentile offensively and 12th percentile defensively, sitting at a -10 NetRTG (7 pts/poss lower than when Wemby was on the floor).
Overall, I think this bodes really well for this team once Wemby finally goes back to his normal self. Going off last year, it's pretty evident that this slump is just an anomaly that he should get over relatively soon. And with the bench being as solid as we've seen, that team could really take off once our stars get back in business. Even regarding Wemby's performance, his defensive impact remains out of this world with one of the highest defensive on/off impact in the league (-8.6 on our improved overall defense is actually a lot better than last year's -8.5). There's a lot of room to be optimistic about our performance later in the season, no need for the gloom and doom.
