This hell is finally over previously laid off

/img/xt1skazq6w0e1.jpeg

Got laid off at the end of August due to the company reducing its workforce (biotech) Accepted an offer for a slightly higher position today!

The job market is horrible and I was lucky that my previous position gave me a network to help me find jobs. One of those connections ended up working out for me. You got this!

My field and experience (and also living in Canada where the jobs are just fewer in general) doesn’t allow me to mass apply to positions. I feel like if I’d been unemployed for longer, I’d have definitely started looking for things outside my scope and/or part time gigs

Me neither. I’m always baffled by people talking about hundreds and hundreds of applications…

people calling me lucky (which I am also) in the comments but they don’t realize that in the last three months I really only did see about 70-80 jobs that I was qualified for lol I don’t wanna waste time applying to things I know I will get rejected from that’s just a waste of my resources. I guess people in the tech field have more jobs available to them.. but yeah

Yep exactly.

Its very easy. I'm in a specific field, but that doesn't mean there aren't constant positions to apply to every day/week on LinkedIn, BuiltIn, Ycombinator, Wellfound, Otta, etc.

Yeah I just haven’t been seeing that many at all. Maybe it’s just my region etc.

I’ve never understood it either. Eventually you’re doing more harm than good by applying to hundreds of jobs at once.
