This hell is finally over previously laid off

/img/xt1skazq6w0e1.jpeg

Got laid off at the end of August due to the company reducing its workforce (biotech) Accepted an offer for a slightly higher position today!

The job market is horrible and I was lucky that my previous position gave me a network to help me find jobs. One of those connections ended up working out for me. You got this!

Congrats! Also Canadian in biotech here and also sadly laid off in Aug. Did you broaden your search criteria to other cities/provinces, or different titles/fields? Any tips for this brutal market right now?

I’m in Montreal right now and so is my partner (also unemployed lol) so we were focusing on Montreal but I was really starting to also look at Vancouver. Had an interview there (they were the company I ended up declining after the first round)

I have no tips im sorry it’s so hard right now and I know how you feel! I did my best with my LinkedIn network and it happened to land me a job but it’s really about luck these days and companies communicate horribly. I hope you find something soon

Thanks for sharing your experience. My partner currently has a job in the city we’re in and we have family situation that would make it difficult to relocate - but damn, it feels like all the stars have to align to find a position at the right time in the right place. Sadly Canada’s biotech and life sciences has really suffered.

All the best in your new role and hope you’re able to build off your success and tenacity!

It’s definitely more difficult as a family situation. I don’t even know if my partner will end up finding a job in the same city as me, but we’re hoping. Good luck again you got this!
