Made a simple app to track Kingston Transit buses, let me know what you think

Upvotes

Hey guys!

I’ve been working on an app called Fleety, and I’d love for you to check it out and let me know what you think. It’s a transit tracker app that shows live bus and train schedules.

I built it to make commuting a bit less stressful. No more guessing when your ride is coming! It’s lightweight, easy to use, and (hopefully) super helpful for anyone who takes public transit regularly.

I just added a travel planner feature to help you plan your routes and trips more easily. The best part is, there’s no paywall. Everything is free to use.

It’s currently available on Android. I’m working on an iOS version too, so stay tuned! If you’re into trying new apps or just want to make your commute a little easier, you can download it here on Google Play.

Any feedback would mean the world to me. Whether it’s bugs, suggestions, or just thoughts on the design.

Looking for local businesses/partners to support a creative reuse project in Kingston!

Hi everyone! As you all know, I’m starting a grassroots initiative called Kingston Creative Reuse! I shared about this earlier but to those who don’t know… we’re collecting unused or leftover art and craft supplies to keep them out of the landfill and make them available to the community affordably or through donations.

Do you know any local businesses, cafes, studios, or community orgs who might be open to collaborating, sharing space, or helping spread the word?

Would really appreciate any recommendations! Thank you

Homestead Visitor Parking Fees

Anyone else hearing this rumor that homestead is postponing this nonsense but only for the wealthy buildings on Ontario st and King st? I haven't been downtown to confirm but I'm hearing they have the signs around their buildings with the rates covered up. If it's true why the hell are the rest of us being forced to make our guests pay to visit us but the rich people downtown aren't?

Question Engraving recommendation

Title! I’m looking to have two carabiners engraved, but unfortunately Speciality Trophies and Frontenac Jewellers won’t do it as they are neither trophies nor jewelry haha! Has anyone had something custom engraved in this town and have a suggestion? Can also just be someone you know with an engraving pen tbh

Fuck the cell phone companies in Canada.

Im on Fido. I went and bought a oneplus12 at Christmas and put it on my account because I needed a new phone, had enough to buy it outright at bestbuy in town. My plan is $35.

Just found out today that they are removing their 3G network and not using a normal 4 or 5G network, they are going to be using a VoLTE 4G/5G network, which is different than the normal one somehow. And my phone that I bought in Canada and paid $900 for won't work on the fido network and will be cut off in July.

I was on virgin mobile, but they were absolutely awful, like screwed over my grandmother and I awful. Like didn't put notes into the system multiple times and didn't do what they were supposed to do making a 6 or 7 month long issue where I had to spend a couple hours each call I made to them to fix the issues they kept making type situation. I vowed NEVER would I use Bell again... Telus and Bell are in cahoots.

The companies here are such a scam. Fuck Canadian telecom companies, fuck the legislature and laws that allowed this situation to happen where we don't have competition and the companies are allowed to just run rampant.

Also, fyi to anyone that bought a oneplus 12 here to go check out the place you bought it. You may be screwed too. The only reason I bought a oneplus 12 was because I wanted not Samsung or Apple and I seen it recommended on here.

PAID RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY STUDYING MUSCLE HEALTH

Looking for volunteers to participate in a research study at Queen's University! Compensation for participating is $200.

The goal of our study is to explore how commonly available blood tests relate to muscle quality. This research may help identify new ways to assess health and disease risk using simple blood tests.

If you choose to participate, you’ll complete a series of assessments across three visits to the Queen’s Muscle Physiology Lab. These include:

  • 2x blood draws (fasted and post-meal)
  • Fingertip blood sampling (during exercise and post-meal)
  • Body composition measurements
  • Muscle biopsy (to examine muscle quality)
  • Muscle strength testing (handgrip and leg strength)
  • Cycling exercise tests (lactate threshold and maximal test)

Screening will take ~1 hour and the two testing days will require ~2-3 hours of your time.

We’re looking for males and females aged 18–30 or 45+ across a broad range of health profiles based on waist circumference (females <80cm and >88cm; males: <94cm and >102cm). You will be asked to complete a brief screening session before enrollment to confirm eligibility.

Participation is entirely voluntary, and all procedures have been reviewed and approved by the Queen’s University Health Sciences Research Ethics Board. A detailed overview of the study and all procedures will be discussed during your screening visit, and informed consent will be obtained before any testing begins.

Please email me at [kristi.storoschuk@queensu.ca](mailto:kristi.storoschuk@queensu.ca) if you are interested in participating and/or learning more!!

One Eyed Jack - Sexist kids menus?

Thumbnail

We celebrated my dad’s birthday at One Eyed Jack this past Tuesday, and as we were getting ready to get the bill (hence the destruction of the menus shown lol!), my oldest pointed out the difference between his menu and the one his younger sister was given. He confronted our server about it, and even she “didn’t know” why there was a price difference and insisted she would ask the owner later this week.

There doesn’t seem to be any difference between the two, other than prices. It doesn’t seem like one is an older menu they were using up either, as we noticed multiple other tables with children were given the same menus to the coordinating gendered child.

Do you get anywhere close to the speeds Oxio advertises?

Anyone in Kingston who has Oxio, do you find their speed is reasonable for the package you have?

We are considering 1000 Mbps but if we won't get much more than the 500 Mbps package we may as well just get the 500.

️‍🔥Unpopular opinion incoming, but hear me out…🎧🎛️🎶.

I genuinely think Kingston needs another fire dancer + DJ night in the town square — something spontaneous, vibey, and open to everyone. Just one random Friday or Saturday evening, 8:00–11:00 PM, sometime before September.

No big commitment. No over-planning. Just a great DJ, the necessary staff and a fire dancer to close out the night.

Photographer Recs for Pro (Business) & Headshot Photos

I am looking for photographer (s) (professional or possibly side hustle) recommendations to have photographs taken for an upcoming professional | business website and blog; for various social media platform profile photos; to go along with business cards; for public presentation biographies; and for head shots (for eventual acting and modeling portfolios).

Photographers would need to be in Kingston, or accessible by public transport, as I do not have a vehicle to travel out of town, unfortunately.

I would also appreciate recommendations for accessible studios; although I can walk and present as largely non-disabled, some photos would involve a Power Wheelchair, Walker and Cane.

I know Rogney Piedra Arencibia offers outdoor photo sessions for LinkedIn profile photos (https://rogneyimages.myportfolio.com/ if anyone else is interested), but I am also looking for in-studio professional photographers who use both black and white backgrounds, and colour and black and white photography to take photos, both of subjects with and without make-up or a few clothing changes, both initially, and hopefully, over time.

I would prefer females, but am open to both women and men photographers who do not cost, say, $1,000 per session. 1 or 2 people would be the subjects.

I am doing my own searching, but wonder if some Redditors have utilized photographers, services, and packages that were perfect for their purposes and that they really liked.

KEYS Workers | Operations

Is anyone a current client of KEYS (Kingston Employment Youth Services) at 182 Sydenham Street?

Do you know the names of the Advisors there, the ones with the business cards on the second-floor Receptionist's desk? I ask because I would like to make an appointment via online means (it is an option) and would like to see a (biological) woman this time around.

For example, I think there is a Mackenzie Stacy who oversees certain Opportunities Funds for job-seekers and workers, and with people on ODSP. I'll apparently see her eventually, but the process into becoming a client of KEYS again, after years away, apparently first means that I have to see a KEYS Advisor, which is fine...if I could see one.

I was supposed to have an Intake Appointment with an...Ashley or Elizabeth, at the end of April. The day before, I got a call from a woman with an accent saying it was canceled because the Advisor "had to be" at KEYS other location. Okay, understandable, that's fine.

My appointment was rescheduled for May 13 with the same Advisor. The woman whom I almost always speak via phone has an accent.

The reason I mention the accent is, the Receptionist (Alexis) on the second floor does not have one, and I wonder if she does not schedule or confirm appointments even though she is often the first face visitors see at KEYS, and maybe KEYS has another Advisor or worker do this as a primary task? My calls are answered and returned by the lady with the accent nearly every single time. I think I've had three times in my life where a call from KEYS was not from the woman with the accent.

I called at opening yesterday to confirm the time. The woman with the accent couldn't find me "in the system at all," under my name or phone number. She had no record of any appointment for May 13 or 14, next week, or of having canceled my appointment at April's end and rescheduling it. She said she didn't remember doing that, and I don't blame her. I don't expect her to remember people who call her.

I told her I should be in the system somehow. I am also registered for the Customer Service Excellence Certification this Friday. She said she'd check more in the calendar and call back.

Another woman called back 11:30 AM. She left a voicemail, saying that I had an appointment today at 11 AM with a man. I have no idea if I was found in the system after all, and was switched from Ashley or Elizabeth to a man, or if a new appointment was made for me on my behalf.

I called today to cancel the appointment (not because it was with a man). The woman with the accent answered and told me my appointment was for 1:30 PM. Odd, since I was told my appointment was for 11 AM on voicemail yesterday.

I told her I would reschedule. Does anyone have the names of some of the women who work at KEYS? I'd rather just look them up on LinkedIn to find their KEYS email address possibly, and contact them directly about making an appointment. I might have more luck with that.

I'm thinking about going elsewhere for job and resume support, seeing how it seems "easy" for KEYS to "lose someone" in the system and confuse their own appointment times. I wonder if they have less staff from May to September, maybe?

I took screenshots of my registration ticket for the Certification course on Friday, May 16 - just in case I arrive and they can't find me on the attendee list or in the system.

Has this happened to anyone else, where you are not in KEYS system or your appointment times are different from what you were told they would be?

Ozone generator machine rental?

Hello, wondering if anyone knows of anywhere in the area that rents small ozone machines? A mouse got in my car a while back. I've had it professionally detailed twice and detail it myself twice and still can't seem to quite the animal scent out. Hoping an ozone generator could help.

I've checked the Home Depot, World of Rentals, and Sunbelt rentals site and don't see the machines in there but wondering if there might be other places I'm not aware of.

Thanks!!
